i'm also wondering about the price..; the 2004 x-wing with yoda's hut, had a huuuge price tag of 84 euro! later on , 74 euro, but still extremely high!! so i'm kinda hoping they're not going to add a bunch of minifigs or extra equipment, cos that would probably bring us back to 80-90 euro... :-X

and yep, we also have the 2004 xwing here, so i'm not really sure where lego is going with this...

anyway, i guess the remake suggests that only the absolute sw classics sell very well, all the other may be selling just above average or so?

I guess thats something TLC haven't thought about (we are so accustomed by their stupid decisions, its getting boring !!).

Ha, I knew they would eventually do another X-Wing. The Dagobah one just didn't seem like an "official" redesign. I hope in the new one is more grey than white.... frankly, more like the color scheme of the original X-wing.

Weird.... I like blue TIE fighters, but not so much white X-wings. *wacko*

well i am really looking forward to the tie advance! that will look great next to my ucs x-wing, y-wing and tie interceptor! :-P another system x-wing is a real dissapointment :-( why so soon after the last? it's just a load of sh*t!! oh and my new title is a bit odd as i never wear ties. ;-)

Can anyone suggest exactly HOW the X-Wing could be improved in a redesign? I personally think the Dagobah set is one of the best sets.

The ONLY improvement I can think of is Luke in orange pilot's suit.

But yes, other aspects such as scenery (e.g. Echo Base) would be cool. And yes, most definately a Wedge. But how would you make him look like Wedge as opposed to any other smiley-faced MF?

Aha. I like your plan. I would add to this plan with the suggestion of a printed orange visor, like the Scout Trooper MFs: Scout Trooper Head

Regarding the X-Wing I would (*runs to get the Dagobah X-Wing*):

* rescale it a bit down

* change the attachment of the front to the rear (like the old version): the nose is way too wide !!)

* get rid of the wing mechanism which I totally dislike (when the S-Foil are in atack position, you see the opening system, its ugly :-X ): regular wedges would look way better (and simpler meaning cost reduction *y* )

Colours:

* have it light bluish grey and NOT white (I feel the same way as Beagle)

* getting rid of the tan

* putting dark red instead of red (to match the A-wing)

I would nonetheless keep:

* the landing gear though (I don't think it can be much improved)

* the guns

I am so utterly sick of TIEs, in any incarnation, though since its UCS, it really doesn't affect me much. As for the X-wing, I'm not really excited about it either... so unless it comes with some really good figures or parts, I might have to pass on it too... Oh well, more to spend on other lines, like... well guess I'll be saving it...

While I agree with you that this is a great set, Captaintau, I do think there's still room for improvement. I agree totally with Yoda on things like removing the tan pieces, making it grey instead of white, swapping the red for dark red, and simplifying the wing-opening mechanism. I would also add:

* A slight redesign of the engines: making the rear thruster part beefier (instead of just the little trans-orange radar dishes), and putting a T-bar across the front intake to make it more movie-accurate.

* Making the rear end more hexagonal (lose the hinge piece and the little 2x2 dome). The X-wings have a very distinctive hexagonal shape from the back.

* The top of the body: could have long tiles along the borders, and greebly pieces in the central area

* A couple of inverse slopes on the underside of the wings, next to the engines

* Long-shot: making the line from the nose to the windshield flatter (this is really unlikely since they'd have to do a new windshield mold.... and frankly, I'm not even sure I would WANT this, because I like the X-wing windshields. And I like my Lego vehicles to be a bit tall and stylized to fit minifigs.)

Plus, add a Wedge and a Death Star trench turret, and I think that's plenty to justify a re-release! *sweet*
