Sarg_Kulo Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 I'm actually kind of please about the x-wing, I missed out on the first one and never like the Dagobah one. So I'm hoping that it will be a spot on verison with new figs and addded playabilty (yes, I play with my Lego :-P ) SK Who doesn't, honestly? :-P No one, but they are those who would never admit to such a thing ;-) Quote
captaintau Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 Can anyone suggest exactly HOW the X-Wing could be improved in a redesign? I personally think the Dagobah set is one of the best sets. While I agree with you that this is a great set, Captaintau, I do think there's still room for improvement. I agree totally with Yoda on things like removing the tan pieces, making it grey instead of white, swapping the red for dark red, and simplifying the wing-opening mechanism. I would also add: * A slight redesign of the engines: making the rear thruster part beefier (instead of just the little trans-orange radar dishes), and putting a T-bar across the front intake to make it more movie-accurate. * Making the rear end more hexagonal (lose the hinge piece and the little 2x2 dome). The X-wings have a very distinctive hexagonal shape from the back. * The top of the body: could have long tiles along the borders, and greebly pieces in the central area * A couple of inverse slopes on the underside of the wings, next to the engines * Long-shot: making the line from the nose to the windshield flatter (this is really unlikely since they'd have to do a new windshield mold.... and frankly, I'm not even sure I would WANT this, because I like the X-wing windshields. And I like my Lego vehicles to be a bit tall and stylized to fit minifigs.) Here's some pics to illustrate what I mean: Plus, add a Wedge and a Death Star trench turret, and I think that's plenty to justify a re-release! *sweet* Wow! X-O That MOC is so detailed, it doesn't even look like LEGO! Quote
Beagle Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 Wow! X-O That MOC is so detailed, it doesn't even look like LEGO! Er.... actually that's not lego, just a model someone built. It was just the best pic I could find online to illustrate what I was saying about the X-Wing's design. Sorry for the confusion! :-$ I actually don't think I would want a lego model to be that spot-on accurate.... it would kinda stop feeling like lego at that point! Quote

Beagle Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 If that's the case, my apologies again! :-$ Sarcasm is such a tricky thing on the internet! :-D Quote
captaintau Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 If that's the case, my apologies again! :-$ Sarcasm is such a tricky thing on the internet! :-D No need to apologise, just me being an ar$e! As normal. X-D Quote
Ras 74 Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 See the pattern anyone!! This is not the only set we will get a redesign of. You can count on that there will be more. A forth version of the X-wing can Quote
xwingyoda Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 Oh boy, I do sense an angry Ras in that post >:-) Yes I totally dislike that wing mechanism & blue in Ties (among other things) !! And guess what ? I am proud of it :-P You are not the only one disappointed and pissed off about that set (at least on the news of it) !! There are so many things we wanted before another X-Wing :-| Its such a cheap way to make money since, like you say, all SW collectors will get at least one ;-) Oh well, lets make the best of it and wait for a better description/pics before bashing TLC hehe !! And I would love Wedge !! Here is why: he is a major secondary character !! To prove my point I will just quote the Star Wars Databank: A survivor if ever there was one,Antilles has lived through some of the Rebellion's most important battles against the Empire. The young Corellian served as Red Two during the Battle of Yavin, and flew as Luke Skywalker's wingman during the final approach on the Death Star's thermal exhaust port. When Wedge sustained damage to his fighter, he had to pull out and leave the battle. Three years later, Wedge flew as part of Rogue Group during the Battle of Hoth. He and his gunner Janson perfected a daring maneuver wherein a snowspeeder used its harpoon and tow-cable to trip up the legs of the attacking Imperial walker. During the climactic Battle of Endor, Wedge, as Red Leader, spearheaded the Alliance starfighter attack into the heart of the uncompleted Death Star. In fact, Wedge will just be an orange pilot with a special head and printed helmet ;-) Nothing too fancy but its always good to have more secondary characters !! I really wish for a Wedge ;-) *yoda* Quote
sam89 Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Well apparently the 6212 X-wing will be Hoth-based, and will most likely include R2-D2, Chewie, Han, Leia, Luke and another pilot, maybe Wedge. Quote
natelite Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 what? no stormtrooper? we need more stormtrooper for army building. :-P Quote
xwingyoda Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 If its a Hoth version, give us a snowie instead of ANOTHER R2 & Chewie >:-( Waits for pics before getting too aggravated :-P *yoda* Quote
oo7 Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Well apparently the 6212 X-wing will be Hoth-based, and will most likely include R2-D2, Chewie, Han, Leia, Luke and another pilot, maybe Wedge. Is this an assumption or a fact? If the later is correct were did you get this information? Quote
xwingyoda Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Guys, I'm thinking of something here hehe Since its a Hoth set and since TLC produces sets in a series, that would mean we would be getting more Hoth sets in January *sweet* (*keeping my fingers crossed here !!!!*) *yoda* Quote
Sarg_Kulo Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Hoth XWing sounds kickass, maybe they could throws some taun tauns in with it 8-| , and that medical droid. *sweet* Quote
sam89 Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 There's most likely nothing else included with the X-wing. Quote
dunamis Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Well apparently the 6212 X-wing will be Hoth-based, and will most likely include R2-D2, Chewie, Han, Leia, Luke and another pilot, maybe Wedge. I'm not disputing your information, Sam89, but it just seems like an odd collection of minifigs for the X-Wing. But hey, if they want to give us six minifigs to go with a single pilot (+ droid) ship, that's fine with me... Quote
xwingyoda Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 dunamis, I guess they are reproducing what they did with the New Slave1: 1 ship and figs !! Since its a Hoth Hangar set, those figs do make sense ;-) What no C3PO ?? :-D At least we'll increase our collection of fleshies !! *y* *yoda* Quote
Beagle Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 While I'm excited for this X-Wing and will definitely snap it up, I do agree that it seems strange to be doing it now. I don't think anyone was clamoring for an X-Wing redesign, as there have already been two. It would make more sense, to me, to do a Y-Wing redesign now (since that's the only classic starfighter that hasn't had one yet) and then save another X-Wing for near the end of the line in 2011 (since it's the more iconic ship and would be a strong way to end the line). But then, who know, that's still years away.... they could still release another X-Wing then anyway. :-/ Quote
xwingyoda Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 If the trends continues, we might have a january Y-Wing with 6 figs including Ackbar yeay !!! (Sure its weird to have him with a Y-Wing, but since TLC didn't do it with the B-Wing, who knows !! and it would be a base set so...). I know I am dreaming but I want an Ackbar and Mon Mothma (yeay we need more female characters !!) *yoda* Quote
xwingyoda Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 BRING ON THE HOTH!!! :-) :-P :-) :-P Yes, you'll have your redesign Tie Bomber :-D :-P *yoda* Quote
mutley777 Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 BRING ON THE HOTH!!! :-) :-P :-) :-P Yes, you'll have your redesign Tie Bomber :-D :-P *yoda* i don't think that is likely as no one would buy such rubbish! :-P Quote
xwingyoda Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 How dare you Mutley >:-( :-P I would love a squadron of 3 of those rubbish babies !! *yoda* Quote
