natelite Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 haha, lego seems to be lacking in imagination. it's just like slave 1. one ship and lots of minifigs. Quote
mutley777 Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 if it is cheaper than 4502 then i will get more than one. a Quote
xwingyoda Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 it's just like slave 1. one ship and lots of minifigs. I really don't mind that at all !! Keep them coming I say !! The paramount of that was Imperial Inspection and Slave1 was also great *y* However this all depends on the ship and figs !! I understand the strategy here (apart making loads of easy $$$ to please *beeeeeep* Lucas): they needed the more iconic ship of the whole OT and the Xwing is just that ;-) BUT G, they at least could have improved the design of the Xwing and give us all new figs and an all new R2 with a chrome head or something like that !! Rant On !! *yoda* Quote
sam89 Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 It looks like the only NEW figure is the pilot, which might be Wedge ;-) Quote
natelite Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 well, my guess is that the reason they keep releasing x-wing is because they cannot continue to sell 4502 or even 7140. all retail shops clear their stock at the end of each season (or year). but clearly some sets sell better than others and to keep selling these sets they basically have to change it slightly, give it a new number and viola! it's a "new" set!!! x-wing is so iconic that even non sw or lego fans may just get one for display or keepsake. it's a brilliant idea by lego to get around the legalities. now, if only lego own the license, then maybe they dont need to recycle and can just keep selling 4502 or 7140 as long as they like. kinda like levi jeans 501. if you own the rights, you can keep selling 501 jeans as long as you keep producing them. but if you are licensing, then obviously there are contractual terms you need to adhere to. on the other hand it would be a marketing ploy like what most of you said. if consumers know lego is going to sell 4502 for like the next 10 years, then there is no rush to buy it. everyone would just wait for a sale and nothing would sell at retail. so to create "artificial" demand, they "cut" the set after a year. wait one year, then resell the set under a new number the following year. it's brilliant! It puts the relationship between lego and her customers under pressure. at some point people will be getting tired of hearing the same justification for it... They'll feel cheated . they'll back off, and in the end, lego will get a bad image Quote
sam89 Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 But it's only us fans that will be annoyed. Everyone else will still be happy to get an X-wing. Quote

Poohbear Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Sets like these show how desprate lego is to rip us off, now i know new figs cost alot to make but surely lego could of included a few different pilots instead of yet more hans, leia,s and bloody r2's!!! Oh, I get it, you'd rather have the Slave I with one minifig; Boba. Surely fans welcomed the other three NEW figs; Dengar, IG-88, and the Bespin Guard. Frankly, I see the minifig selection a pretty wise choice as the only figs as shown in the picture that have not only been available in sets priced $99.99 + are Luke, R2, Han, and Chewbacca. Leia has only been available in three high dollar sets (2 Millennium Falcons and one Bespin City). Now this looks to be a $35-50.00 set as it does not seem to include any type of station or counterpart like Yoda's hovel. Though I for one and sure more fans would be exicted by this if it came with Han and a Taun Taun, rather than just Han and an assortment of other minifigs. Though hey, it might be Wedge...or just Dack. I can't really see the black details on the other pilot's helm. I for one like the new X-Wing, no more mismatch of color parts such as tan in previous versions. Quote

natelite Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 you've gotta be kidding me. the picture showed $59.99!! Quote
Poohbear Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 you've gotta be kidding me. the picture showed $59.99!! Actually it was about 69.99 but whether that's in Euros or not is a different story. I would think so... Quote

Where exactly did i say i would rather have a set with only one fig poohbear????? :-| And i didnt say that a leia was unwelcome either did i??? When the slave one was released i was unhappy that lego gave us another one but at least the addition of 3 new figs was good. And their lies my point, this set has just 1 new fig and the removal of the tan bricks really dosent add anything new to it. For collectors like me and many others this is a set with nothing new and i bet most people will have removed all the wrong colour pieces from the last xwing making this even more usless. Quote
snefroe Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 hm... we had the xwing plus yoda's hut for 84 and later for 74 euro, so i'm hoping it's 69.99 dollars, and a lot less in euro, 50 Quote

That's strange, it's the second time I quoted the wrong person. I didn't mean to quote you Vader, I meant to quote the person who said this on page 11: "haha, lego seems to be lacking in imagination. it's just like slave 1. one ship and lots of minifigs." That's why I referred to Slave I in my post. Sorry about the confusion. Quote
snefroe Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 ok... so the xwing was found in a shop in Holland... so 70 euro it is... waaaaay too much if you're asking me... Quote
captaintau Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Unfortunately, I really can't see a good reason to buy this set. I really don't think its fair to compare this with the latest Slave 1. S1 was complete redesign, was bigger, packed more features and had nw uniques MFs. This new X-Wing has minimal alterations and possibly one unique MF, who is hardly inspiring anyway. It had so much potential, but all completely unrealised Quote
xwingyoda Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Yep that was my estimation hehe. If that price is confirmed, it will cost 10 Quote
mutley777 Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 it is a bit of a shame that it does not come with a bit more lego. imperial inspection had 10 minifigs the main shuttle, small base and the little trolley thing for only Quote

Starwars4J Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 It is a shame, but for collectors like me...I guess I'll end up getting it *wacko* There were less redesigns than I thought Quote

Steff Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 The old x-wing cost 69,99 Euro too, but there is the yoda hut inside ... i think the new set is too expensive, because the new ISD cost 125 Euro in holland.. i mean, the relation between these sets isn't correct.. Quote
