Teddy Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Dear all, in another topic there was a requist to put my fire station and train station next to the CC style buildings for comparison. For a while now they actually have been co-existing in our living room. After the firestation release by lego I'm contemplating demolishing my firestation since two firestations would seem silly in such a small layout. Well here are the photos. Comments are welcome. Kind regards, Teddy Quote
Johnnhiszippy3 Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Very nice You could also just change your fire station into something else - I think it'd look great as a bank if you changed the garage doors into windows. You could even switch out the red for a different color. Quote
mikey Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 To 'set the cat amongst the pigeons' a little, I think your FireStation MOC is better than the Lego release... Maybe you should MOD the Lego release into something else? Quote
streifen Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 i hope the train station is for subways. if not, the surrounding buildings will be quite noisy all day long. but great fire station you have there!! Quote
Rick Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Nice display, I'm a big fan of the modular buildings... not afraid of dust and yellowing? Quote
kinjai Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Teddy, I am inspired by the front facade of your train station. I am contemplating a cross between yours and Amsterdam Central Station for my living room display. :) Quote
brickzone Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 A fantastic street scene - I hadn't seen that magnificent railway station before. I too would suggest keeping the fire station MoC - perhaps replace the red with another colour and use it as a bank or some kind of commercial building? Quote
BlueBard Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Impressive City collection You must be very proud and I must be very jealous Quote
Natman8000 Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 That must be fun to look at! I think your fire station is way more better than the release, maybe you should convert the fire station into something else? Quote
prateek Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 you should convert the current fire station to a department store or something so you can put the official fire station in also the fire truck will fit in with the indy cars too Quote
streifen Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 you should convert the current fire station to a department store or something so you can put the official fire station in also the fire truck will fit in with the indy cars too the interior details of a dept store will require a lot of parts/mocs. but will be interesting to do. if i gather enough bricks, will love to do that. Holodoc Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 Although I´m very impressed with your MOC´s I don´t think it was a good idea to put them next to the modular buildings. The originals (CC, GG, MP) look too small! Your creations are both: taller (the building to the very left) and wider (the train station). And they are less colorful, which makes them more real. I´m not going to comment what is better, though. Quote
Guss Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 all these nics modules, both the lego's original and your moc put together are great ! nice little display, I wish I had a windows like this one! Quote
Teddy Posted June 18, 2009 Author Posted June 18, 2009 Thanks for all the nice comments. I tried to make my two buildings an exercise in simplicity. Both in color scheme as in building techniques. As kind of a challenge to myself. Since I'm already SNOT-ting everything in my Victory MOC. (I know it might sound a little nuts, but I am nuts/dutch most of the time. ) The fire station is almost entirely made out of regular 2x4, 2x3, 2x2, and 2x1 bricks. Also the construction is studs up. Except for some simple decorations at the top. In the train station I also tried to use simple studs up techniques as well. An example are the columns. The only really fancy thing there is the arch with headlight bricks and 1x1 tiles. I couldn't resist.. I am weak. But appart from that almost everything is studs up. The end result, is a little more stylised look than the official CC buildings. So with less small details everywhere. but I still think they look okay together. The two buildings feature an interior except for the first (UK)/ second (US) floor of the fire station. The fire station houses the fire trucks from set 7945. Link to brickset 7945 In order to house the bigger truck the interior space needed to be a whopping 26 studs deep. I might give the firestation another function, I will have to think about it. Thanks again for all the cool replies. Quote
