PrincessAriana Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 I might join in, but I'm pretty busy with work. Quote
YG-49 Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 If we cut a piece of paper out then add the detail, does that count as a decal? Because technically we still apply it. Quote
LuxorV Posted June 21, 2009 Author Posted June 21, 2009 This might have been in the rules and I skipped over it, and if so I apologize. I however would like to know if I am allowed more than one entry (doubt it, but would still like to know) and If I am allowed to make a brick built fig. Yes, it's in the rules : • Only one entry per person. I'd prefer you to make a custom of a normal MF. It's very unusual for tLG to make a new theme with the main/most representative character being a brick-built one. I know we aren't doing a licenced theme, but do the figs have to be yellow? No, you can even make them red or gold, as long as you provide a reason for it in the backstory. Wait - if I am to understand, we cannot add white backgrounds to our images? Or can we just not add effects? Otherwise, great contest! You are strongly invited to use a white (or other neutral) background. We just want to avoid the risk of the MF to appear merged with the background (so no brick-built bg either). As for the effects, as long as they are natural (real world) light efects, ok. No digital elaboration, please. question: when u mean plastic customized parts only, does that mean no sculpey? As already noted, the 51% recognizable LEGO rule means you can use sculpey or other customizing materials (in the end, decals are not plastic, are they?) as long as the entry is mostly original LEGO (so no 'ClayFace-like' beings made of 80% sculpey). LuxorV are you aloud to make a made up guy and add a back story to it or not ? That would be my favourite kind of entry. We want you to express your creativity in this contest. If you have a good inspiration material you want to use, good. If you can create something totally on your own, better. If we cut a piece of paper out then add the detail, does that count as a decal? Because technically we still apply it. Well, yes. I think your description should fall under the decals category. LuxorV Quote
LuxorV Posted June 21, 2009 Author Posted June 21, 2009 I have updated the rules to include this one: • All entries must include a Theme Name and a brief description of the possible development of the theme (i.e., a list of the possible sets). LuxorV Quote
Mraz Skintas Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 I re-read the rules, so I know only one entry. Could I possibly PM you a picture of the Brick Built Robot? It is not the main character, just the main villain that would help represent said new theme. It would be nice though if LEGO were to make a theme with primarily brick-built creatures. Quote
exxtrooper Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 You have my atention, but where are we going to post our entries, a new topic or in one? Quote

It is not the main character, just the main villain that would help represent said new theme. It would be nice though if LEGO were to make a theme with primarily brick-built creatures. As long as the brick-built character is not your entry, go for it even without a PM preview Btw, I fear a theme with primarily brick-built creatures would probably fall under 'Creator', more than being a theme on its own. And that's a bit of a pity, considering some of the best creature I've seen around (BS, Flickr and so on) are brick-built You have my atention, but where are we going to post our entries, a new topic or in one? As Mraz 'Skintas already said: Entries are to be posted within the Minifig Customization Workshop and type "MCW Contest Entry" in the ’title description’ of the topic. LuxorV Quote
LittleBuilder Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 So where do we add our entry? I gonna be in ! Quote
Mraz Skintas Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 This has been said twice and is in the rules. Create a new topic for it. Quote
BlueBard Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 Great! I was preparing a little presentation for some custom MFs I've been doing and it's perfect for this contest Quote
Morgan19 Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 (edited) Interesting idea, sounds like fun! More BF products are never a bad thing, either. ;) Can the overall theme be one we've already worked within and created MOCs for, so long as the character itself is new? Or do both theme and figure need to be completely new? € Entries must have a background story, a note on which theme it's 'from' and which character you've copied. The wording of that's a bit confusing. if we're making a new line with new characters, what is there to be "copied"? m19 Edited June 22, 2009 by Morgan19 Quote

Or do both theme and figure need to be completely new? The wording of that's a bit confusing. if we're making a new line with new characters, what is there to be "copied"? First question - tes, it can be a theme/idea you already worked on, as long as the entry is a new (not shown before) custom. Second question - you have to make a theme which is new for TLG (never produced before in LEGO form), but if you get your inspiration from some source, like a local legend in your town, then you have to state so. For example, if I made an entry based on a popular tale like that of Jack And The Beanstalk, I'd have to say 'My entry is based on Jack And The Beanstalk tale', and maybe provide a link to it. On the other hand, if your entry is entirely based on your imagination, you can say 'My entry is entirely based on my imagination'. Simple, isn't it? Hope this makes it more clear . LuxorV Quote
LuxorV Posted June 22, 2009 Author Posted June 22, 2009 Considering a recent case, I think it would be better to update the rules on the License distinction: • While License-like themes are not allowed (so don't try to introduce new factions for Harry Potter, Star Wars or Indiana Jones!), creations based on true historical events/factions and/or folklore can be used as a base for your creations (say local legends' heroes are welcome; just avoid all those monsters like Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster and Werewolf already produced by TLG in the Studios line). To make things more clear, I'll say this: all the themes which already have a merchandise line are considered License. LuxorV Quote

LuxorV Posted June 22, 2009 Author Posted June 22, 2009 so you can't make a custom from, for example The A-Team ? No, sorry. I remember quite well they had a merchandise line. You can still make a B-Team or something like that, though LuxorV Quote
YG-49 Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 Can it be that everyone that enters get one of those Customizer tags? Quote
tin7_creations Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 Can it be that everyone that enters get one of those Customizer tags? What's a customizer tag? Quote
tin7_creations Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 This. You have one, Tin, as do I. oh... how did i get one? haha... Quote
LuxorV Posted June 23, 2009 Author Posted June 23, 2009 Can it be that everyone that enters get one of those Customizer tags? Not likely The Customizer Tag is not a normal prize; it is awarded to members who have shown, upon a quite long period of time, interest and partecipation in the MCW, for example posting good to excellent customs or helping other members with decal requests. brickme Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 Hi I am new here. I would like to enter however I had some questions. 1. Can I do the Mystery science theater robots? 2. Can I make a bunch of minifigs for the theme and post them as one entry? Quote
Mraz Skintas Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 Isn't Mystery Science theater a TV show or something like that. If so, then no, sorry. Your entry has to be entirely made up. You can make a bunch of Minifigs and put them in one entry, one however, has to be the main entry. Hope that cleared things up for you. Quote
LuxorV Posted June 26, 2009 Author Posted June 26, 2009 Hi I am new here. I would like to enter however I had some questions. Welcome to EB It's always nice to have new members and customizers around. Please take some time to stop and say hello to the community here 1. Can I do the Mystery science theater robots? If you mean this one, then the answer is no. It would fall under the License group, and that's been excluded from this contest. But, you can make something like that and call it with another name, like a bunc of robots helping few men defeating an evil mastermind who trapped them in research space station somewhere. Please avoid too strict connection with the original one (no coincidental names, shapes and so on). After all, as it has been reported more than once, Adventurers is a something-like-Indy-but-not-really-it 2. Can I make a bunch of minifigs for the theme and post them as one entry? You can indeed build a bunch of MF for the theme, but only one (you'll have to clearly state which one in your entry thread) will be used as your entry. LuxorV Quote
