Captain Green Hair Posted July 6, 2009 Author Posted July 6, 2009 What type of hinge are we going to need? This and this. The new types can also be used, but they stick out more and have to be modified when you choose to do so. Quote
Commodore Hornbricker Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 Thanks. I would love to use the dark blue with white but I am not sure if that will work. It will depend on the type of bricks I'll need and the amount. Otherwise I am thinking it will be the classic black and white. I am waiting for a BL order to arrive so I can start building the ship. I can't wait! I am down to a few tweaks to the roof and the interior for St. Elizabeth and then the frigate will be my only project. Quote
mikey Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 This is an excellent idea, (i wish i had more time at the moment to learn to build this). The first two posts are detailed and I can see this topic being a well used resource in the future. I wish you all the best of luck! Quote
RTN LNA Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 Share your thoughts on this! Way-a-go! Cpt. Green Hair! I like that you are even trying to to do this! In that sprint I have a "thought" (my brain hurts!). Why not use "slope 45 inverted" and "wedge plate (wing)" parts to widen the hull? I feel that you get a fairer (smoother) surface. I CADed up some versions for you, with five mid sections. enjoy kurt Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted July 7, 2009 Author Posted July 7, 2009 Thanks for the idea and thinking with us here Kurt! The method i use gives a more gradual curve and looks less bulky IMO, since it uses half studs. I have tested yours in the past and i know some others used it as well and it doesn't look bad at all. I just did some cross sections, I'll try to update them as you build! they are: a brick built mid section ----- slope inverted mid ----- jumper mid Note: that they are all the same width. enjoy kurt Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted July 7, 2009 Author Posted July 7, 2009 May i suggest you try it with real bricks and then see what you like best? The mids have a bit of a straight part on the top, with the inverted slopes it just makes a weird dent IMO. Quote
Captain Zuloo Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 This image might display what CGH means by looing wierd. I share the same opinion. See below: Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted July 11, 2009 Author Posted July 11, 2009 I can't decide on my colorscheme. I'll post a pic when i do, how are your thoughts about your colorscheme guys? Please be advised that there is a small mistake in step 2, which i will fix tomorrow when i post step 3. But for those who want to change it in advance: the first and last 5 studs of the widened part should be on 3 plates instead of 1. Quote
Admiral M Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 I can't decide on my colorscheme. I'll post a pic when i do, how are your thoughts about your colorscheme guys? Here are 2 colorschemes, the red one, the traditional franco-spanish colorscheme for the napoleonic war, the second, the british one. Which do you prefer? Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted July 11, 2009 Author Posted July 11, 2009 I think i like the red better, i'm also thinking about red myself. Here's my quick sketch of the colorscheme i'll use: It's dark red in my case. Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 My coloursheme will be quite similar to the L'Achéron from Master and Commander. As you see it will be dark red with black stripes, the stern will be yellow/gold and black. I think I will make a Spanish Frigate from it, since the Spanish also used the black-red coloursheme on their ship. Quote
General Armendariz Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 I'll probably use yellow with black stripes or white with blue or black stripes either of them will do. Quote

Captain Green Hair Posted July 15, 2009 Author Posted July 15, 2009 Ok step 3 is up, i hope all is clear. Quote
Joey Lock Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 So is this like build a frigate acadamy? What about a Sloop, Or Man of War? Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted July 15, 2009 Author Posted July 15, 2009 So is this like build a frigate acadamy? What about a Sloop, Or Man of War? You can use these techniques to make any ship you like, so shipbuilding academy would be a better description. Quote
Commodore Hornbricker Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Well I think I have all the parts I need for the first three steps so I will be laying the keel this weekend and catching up. Looks great so far! Thanks again. Quote
White Knight Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 This is actually a really cool idea. I wont be building along with everyone, as I don't have the parts to build a frigate right now, but I've been wanting to build a ship for awhile, so I will keep these instructions in mind, it will really help with my first ship. I will be getting parts of bricklink soon, I found a store with everything I need. Quote
Admiral M Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 I found a store with everything I need. Really? Because I need to buy similar pieces for my ship. What store is it? Quote
Commodore Hornbricker Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 I am all caught up now with first three stages. Looks great! Quote
White Knight Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Really? Because I need to buy similar pieces for my ship. What store is it? I found the hull pieces and other things like jumper plates at Pacific Pieces, but you can find a lot of the stuff you need at bunte-steine-aus-daenemark, too. Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted August 2, 2009 Author Posted August 2, 2009 Ok, i added hinges to it and uploaded more pictures into the build thread. Hope all is cclear, but do not hesitate to ask questions if it isn't. Next up i will start building up the bow and stern, and lay in the gundeck. Stay tuned! Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 Looks great captain! I'm eager to see the next step, but I have to catch up with the build too. I really like the way the curved shapes turn out. Quote
