I vote "no" for the new soldiers, as it mostly hides the lovely backprinting.

In my personal collection, I don't have enough backpacks for *any* of my armies to be fully equipped, so I don't even bother trying.

Personally I love a extra bit or two, especially if its a minifig accessorie :classic:

I was getting ready to type up a response to this thread, but i see B has already worded my opinion so nicely.

I've decided to use the new soldiers as marines on my English ships. For sure, when they are on their ships I leave away the backpack as they just wouldn't wear such a big packpack on a ship (no use). For short interventions on land a big backpack has also little use and the printed little bag can easily contain all they need (bullets, a bit of food and some water, ...). The larger backpack should be added for longer expeditions on land to store a blanket, food, ... . The fact that the new soldier has printing on the back makes no differences to me. So I would answer "sometimes" if that option was available in the poll :-)

None of my marines on my Constitution have backpacks.

backpacks need to be added i say, it is a different backpack and it still adds to the old time value. However, I wouldn't mind having belts and bandoleers for the weapons instead!

There should be an option for 'sometimes'.

Most of my soldiers have no backpack, but there is one soldier who works on his own and can track a pirate for days through the jungle, and can shoot him dead without him even knowing he's been followed.

He wears a backpack.

edit: Actually, I've been considering giving my regular soldiers all my spare Indiana Jones satchels. There should be a poll option for that as well.

Yeah, that would be an interesting poll. But I added backpacks to upgrade them to heavy infantry, however I'll just have to get more reddish-brown backpacks as currently I only have one.

It's simple for infantry going into battle - YES to backpacks, but boarding/fighting on ships - NO to backpacks (they would just get in the way).

I'm a conformist! ! :pir-sweet:

I got the pirates chess set... the 8 redcoats pawns haven't epaullets, and bring tricornes, not shako's.

So, like in set 6274 (the caribbean clipper), the blue coats army make the diference between regular army and navy army... so I did it in the new red coats... I split the redcoat navy (with tricornes but without epaulettes, and backpacks) and a regular and full equiped land army (with shako, blue epaulette and the old backpack)

in both sides, the navy army doesn't look good with shakos and epaulettes (not confortable with the ship tasks), and the regular army needs full equipment...

so, for my, the new red army needs backpacks, and the red sailors needs another hat, better than the shako!!

hey everyone...first post yeeeppi :pir-blush:

Anyway i thing that is it ground troops should have backpacks and navy one shouldn´t. but in the end i can always take the backpack so it could also be everyone has them in that way you could have more choice

I agree with the difference mentioned above. The navy should wear tricornes and no additional backpacks. However, my regular soldiers with shakos ALWAYS wear backpacks, which makes them look like Imperial Guards from the old Pirate theme.

I voted no, as I'm pretty satisfied with what Lego has given us. Arrr :pir-sweet:

i think they should carry packs with them they look better that way. if they had rifles with them then yes but if they have pistols or spears then no.
