It looks like a duck! Boo! Good for variety and I hope Bricklink lists the two types differently - otherwise I'll never have one, as I don't buy Town...

See the flag discussion on Classic-Castle here; no-one seems to know why, but it seems not to be a universal change, unlike the caps (?)

Hehe!

Great discovery

I like the new cap most, because if you turn the vow to the back, the minifigs' eyes aren't coverred!

About the flags, maybe the wind came from another direction?

The new cap looks nice enough. However, does anyone else think the caps in general are way overused in City sets? More minifigs have caps than hair, and it has been that way since the late 80s. I would like to see less of them altogether.

I completely agree. I ordered a few of the new caps from PAB online today to see how they are, but I ordered 4-6 times as many hair pieces.

My guess is that they are using both the new and old molds in flag production. It will be interesting to see if -unlike the flags- they eventually standardize which hat goes in which set. It is my guess that they will.

Cool! I also have an old curved, but long billed cap

I just ordered a few from PAB online, I cant wait!

...and yes, caps are a bit over used, that is why you buy more hair pieces!

from all my town figs, I have about 3/4 with hair and the other 1/4 various other headgear, (hats/helmets/etc.)

Now lets hope they put some prints on those new caps.

As Freddie said, the new caps are available from PaB online in red:

I always wondered why it showed a red cap and blue cap as not available and another red cap and blue cap as available. I would have thought that one style would be available in both colors, but the ones it shows available are the old blue cap and the new red cap.

I always wondered that too. Strange no one else thought that maybe it was a new piece.. :look:

Oh yeah! I just bought a City Corner a few weeks ago, and didn't even notice the difference! The new cap is better looking, and it fits minifigs much better than the old one with the ridiculously long visor.

Sexist pig!

I agree it looks better, Dont agree on the sexist pig part. :oh3::tongue: I mean not many men would choose pink for a cap....Just sayin'

Lucky you alex54! I have the same set, and it still had the old hat in it... must have been an early product run. You're the first I've heard of with the new cap in a set. Congrats!

If you want to take a look from another perspective, I did a comparison of the old and new hat and posted a photo set to my Flickr account.

I too am hoping these come out in a rainbow of colours... great for creating more realistic baseball teams... now if TLG would only come out with a baseball mitt...

I like the comparsion.

I went back and had a look at my 7641, and I have the new cap too!

It does look so much better. The shape just seems better than the previously flat visor.

Thanks for pointing this out!

I want that blue cap, good for Dodgers!

Me too, but hair is much more common (and varied) now than in the 80s. I probably had 100+ minifigs as a kid but only had three "wigs" -- one "Bill" and two "Marys" for those familiar with the 6000 Idea Book. :classic:

One thing I've always wondered, do Europeans even wear baseball caps? I haven't been to Europe in eight years, but I remember being told that one way to stick out like a sore thumb there is to walk around in a baseball cap and shorts. I always think the caps must seem out-of-place for non-U.S. AFOLs.

  • 2 weeks later...

Afew of these have turned up on Bricklink

Apparently the wind turbine transport has the new cap too.

Oh and there's also some Lime-green ones on bricklink, I think i remember seeing those ages ago in some pics from a LEGO store. (i ordered afew! )

I recieved four of these in my latest PAB order. I've put them on a few figs, and I like them more than the originals. Obviously realism is not the first judgment when one is dealing with LEGO, but I do think they look more like a modern baseball cap. If I had the option I would use mostly the new caps, but as I have mostly old caps (in many colors) I think I will use the new cap mostly for kids and "young adult" minifigs, and use the traditional caps for grown-ups.

I too got them in City Corner to begin with, and then I put them in my second most recent PaB order too - bought 8 or so to basically use instead of the old caps. As far as I'm concerned these new ones are pretty much superior (main attraction is no hidden eyebrows/hair, but also the curve is nice).

I look forward to these being available in other colours - they presumably will be replacing the old cap design entirely in the future.

As regards the flags, any recent sets I've got have the mirror version - I can only presume that for whatever reason this is a permanent change and not a limited error.

City Corner here in Ireland is €60 on S@H and in Argos, €52 in Smyths Toys and €42 in Art and Hobby.

I love that cap, and the flag is strange, aalmost like it was made backwards. Ha Ha. But that cap is great, I hope they continue making it in furture sets.
