GRUMBLECAKES Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 They're not doing purple because there was a problem with getting the purple colour consistent between batches, and they didn't use purple enough anyway to make it worth the research costs to fix the purple colour.BIONICLE hasn't used purple much anyway, because it's hard to match to an element, and it's not the most popular colour for the target audience. The prototype pink helmet was just for fun, but it's appearance did proof that they shouldn't do a purple/pink set anyway. Well, Orange is not a color you associate with rocks... and air is not a lime green...Yet they made those element-color connections anyway! 2009 doesn't really have elements in the normal BIONICLE sense anyway. And didn't they get the color right now? I thought this consistency problem was only for the old purple, not the new blue-ish one. Also... what kind of backwards logic is LEGO using? How does a PINK prototype piece prove that PURPLE is not a color to make BIONICLEs in? THOSE TWO ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT COLORS... FOR THE SAME REASON THAT NIDOKING AND GENGAR ARE SUPERIOR TO CLEFAIRY AND JIGGLYPUFF. *EXPLETIVES GO HERE* Speaking of Nidoking and Gengar... doesn't the "target audience" for BIONICLE coincide with the "target audience" for those? In general, the colours were pretty close, with green being because Air was set in the jungle anyway. The orange rock of 2008 was just strange, but it was more because Brown wasn't interesting enough a colour at the time. The old purple was alright, but newer purples including the current one are the ones having the problem. That's why there aren't any purple pieces in any current sets, aside from one Indianna Jones set, but that's only got one purple piece, so consumers probably won't notice any inconsistencies. The pink helmet was more of a fushia pink than light pink, so it was fairly close to purple. I don't really think Nidoking being purple is the reason kids like it. Anyway, this is all off-topic now, so we should discuss it elsewhere (I think there is a topic about purple issues in the General LEGO forum) or via PM if you want. Quote

I keep hearing the opposite of what you say here: The NEW purple has no consistency issues, WHICH IS WHY it has replaced the OLD purple. 2) It looks too PINK in the photo for me to accept it as PURPLE. Was it really that hard for the set designers to get the new blue-ish purple? 3) Yeah, but the purple helps. Can you imagine it in any other color and still looking as awesome? On that note... I realized I forgot a certain pokemon back there: CROBAT But yes, now I will come up with something more on-topic. I have some suggestions here that you guys might not like (and now that I think about it, they kinda suck) but I'll give them anyway: 1) Two female jungle glatorian, one is lime-green and red and the other is lime green and blue and they carry thorned whips... okay, that stinks. 2) A BIONICLE equivalent of the Ginyu Force. 3) I can't help but think that someone here should actually make a purple BIONICLE MOC for this fake story, if they happen to have purple pieces... just to see how it turns out. Try purple and black... It might make a good villian character, and... if it turns out well and a bunch of little kids get fooled into thinking this is the 'real' story for 2010 we might cause enough BAAAAAWWW and trolling when it turns out to be fake to get the new purple used in BIONICLE for reals. 4) Yeah, let's fool people into believing this is real. Let's pull off a Dragon Ball AF: http://dragonball.wikia.com/wiki/Dragon_Ball_AF Quote

So I've been dead again, [not new], but let's get a list of the Glatorian/Agori we got going again. Glatorian: The Dor/Antrozek- Art: Ex-raider Ferast from Iconox [w/ Sand Armor] Bfahome - MOC: Moruum from Tajun Alchy - MOC: Teborus from Iconox. [updated pic w/ Thornax Launcher shortly] Yami-MOC: Vulcanus Glatorian [Name?] Yami-MOC: Vostra from Tesara Lepaka-MOC: Asilex from Rock Tribe [Fixing ir up apparently] Someone: MATA NUI Someone: GELU Which makes 8, I think we should start voting for the custom 5 as soon as we get fixed ones up. Soon people, soon. >< Agori: 3D Brickthing: ? with Rotadus V2 from Vulcanus [Name?] VBBN: Tarkol, from Tajun Someone: ? Someone: TARDUK Someone: Kirbold [someone has the pieces for him, yet can revamp him, it'd be great ^^] VBBN is finishing up the other Agori apparently? Ecto Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I've got a Glatorian on the way. I'll do Gelu and maybe Mata-Nui. Quote
Ecto Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Bam. Glatorian outcast had been living in mountains near hole into prototype GS, runs after Mata-Nui and Gelu and company to warn them of danger of falling in, and they fall in. Very dejected and hopeless. Quote
Zip Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I would so buy the drawn sets. Purple, sand green, tan, all sexy colors. Now if only someone could do teal. Quote
Antrozek Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Bam. Bundalings Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I would so buy the drawn sets.Purple, sand green, tan, all sexy colors. Now if only someone could do teal. Same here. I don't care for all the strange story theorization (=P) going on in this topic, but the artwork is making me salivate. Especially that purple/yellow thing and the tan thing Antrozek did. The body on that thing is so unbelievably want. The perfect way to make waist articulation. Not too wide either. That's one of the things lacking in pretty much all the sets since the Hordika: Their shoulders are friggin wide. @ Ecto's new drawing: Arms are gross, everything else is =D But should this art be in the Art Topic? idunnolol ~Bunda Quote
The Alchemyst Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 (edited) Not liking the hand connection - allows no articulation. D: Colors are sexy though, we need more Sand Green. Name for him, Ecto? Yay finally got a quick crap picture of him. Joy. Glatorian: The Dor/Antrozek- Art: Ex-raider Ferast from Iconox [w/ Sand Armor] Bfahome - MOC: Moruum from Tajun Alchy - MOC: Teborus from Iconox. Yami-MOC: Vulcanus Glatorian [Name?] Yami-MOC: Vostra from Tesara Lepaka-MOC: Asilex from Rock Tribe [Fixing it up apparently] Ecto - Art: Name? the Tesara Outcast Someone: MATA NUI Someone: GELU 9 Yay. Lepaka needs to get back over here and fix up his Glatorian, or we'll just start voting. >.> Soon people, soon. >< Agori: 3D Brickthing - MOC: ? with Rotadus V2 from Vulcanus[?] [Name?] VBBN - MOC: Tarkol, from Tajun Someone: ? Ecto Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 (edited) I'll do a Gelu tomorrow. He'll be "mutated" looking but not disgustingly so. And uhh I dunno a name. Someone think of one? Edited July 24, 2009 by Ecto Quote
Brickthing Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Ecto, I like your Glatorian, but the hand design might be tedious for an actual set, unless it's a new ball-with-no-axle-hole piece. Quote
Lepaka Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Eh. Just disregard my MOC. I can't find the right pieces for it. So you can put up the vote. :D Quote
Ecto Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Argh, I knew I should have given him different hands.... maybe I'll sketch some other ones he could have along with Gelu. Quote
Bfahome Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 (edited) I made a possible Glatorian-sized refugee MOC. It's custom, blue, and at the moment could work for either a male or female character (which we kind of need >.>). Would've been nice to have the hands and armor and a bunch more stuff from Kiina, though. Also, in my (possible) refugee MOCs, I'm adding small yellow highlights to make it seem like they have a group mark/color or something. Edited July 25, 2009 by Bfahome Quote

Don't worry too much about parts you don't have, as long as you know what they should be. It's a new year, so there are going to be recoloured parts anyway that we can't show in set form now. Markings sound interesting. Maybe printed parts with a marking could be possible as well? Quote

The Alchemyst Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 @BFA: Oh god, we have no Female characters at all. D: And I think you mean more of "Driven masses" than "elitist snobs". :P We'll need to call one of our Glatorian a female, as soon as we get votes finished. [-TA-] Quote

That old guy looks very good. I also see what you mean about the markings, but that 1x1 tile belt could do with a marking of some kind, at least to make it look more belt like. @BFA: Oh god, we have no Female characters at all. Changing a character to female strongly influences their backstory, which I doubt all the Glatorian creators would appreciate.. Quote
Ecto Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 My God, Bfa, you just called the BBC elitist? I laughed. ... I'm fine with mine being female. Quote
Zip Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Well, are we just building more Glatorian/Agori this year? I'd expected to see the majority of the sets being the experimented creatures in the proto GS body. Anyway, any chance we can squeeze in some promo sets? I've got an orange GS body creature thing in the works, could it be a $15 winter set? Quote
The Alchemyst Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 @Ecto: Alright. @Zip: Great, we need more orange anyway. I'm going to keep the vote open for a while, so most people and go and vote. [-TA-] Quote

I've got an orange GS body creature thing in the works, could it be a $15 winter set? We need Glatorian and Agori as the main good guys, but there will be plenty of experiments as well. I think what would be good is that we do what was done for 2001 - make heaps of "rahi"/characters that aren't sets, but are featured in the storyline, that people could make if they wanted to. Especially like the Ranama and Kirikori Nui from LEGO Club, where you're expected to have a wide and abundant collection in order to make them. We could also make an Experiment building kit or two as well. Quote
The Alchemyst Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 (edited) Voting is complete, I think everyone voted, and if not, the margin was above one person. I would edit it in the vote topic, but no one would see. >.> So I'll state it here. Lepaka's and Yami's Vostra are eliminated. Ecto's is apparently a female now. We're still waiting for Mata Nui/Gelu The Dor/Antrozek- Art: Ex-raider Ferast from Iconox [w/ Sand Armor] Bfahome - MOC: Moruum from Tajun Alchy - MOC: Teborus from Iconox.
