:look: I hate bugs; can't stand ants, hate spiders, don't have much of a problem with centipedes, but I despise worms. :oh:

I hate spiders too. Probably because I found one in my bed, at bedtime, when I was four, and it must have had legs three inches long! :oh: That really freaked me out, so I whacked it with a lightsaber toy. Worms are not scary at all. As I walk down the garden path at night, they are all coming out of the cracks. When the hear me coming they hide. Basically, most long legged insects get to me. :cry_sad: Except butterflies. :classic::tongue:

Hinckley- I am not surprised the mice took refuge in that castle. Look at those outer defences! :oh3:

This was the castle:

And this is the igloo:

I don't like the non-cute ones with the stripes and the long legs that look almost like hair and they move super fast and freak me out. They are awful. I hate nothing more. :cry_sad: I'm repeating myself. *huh*

The castle entrance is actually shaped like a mouse hole.

As for the house centipedes, what I really hate about them is that they climb up walls and ceilings, but are too big and heavy to run on them. If there is one on the ceiling and you scare it in some way, it often falls down on you. Even on the ground, they run so fast that you have to nail them on the first try or they will get away.

Millipedes freak me out they look like living plant roots! But centipedes are fine they aren't bothersome and I never heard of a centipedes being poisonous unlike millipedes! :oh3: I also hate stick-bugs they freak me out too! But I never have a hard with mollusks.

I wonder how it opened and reclosed the doors though. He must've gone through one of the windows, which are only two studs wide. Stupid rodents: they can get through any opening that can fit their head. :hmpf_bad:

Sorry about the emoticons. That's me trying to describe the visceral reaction I had to that. It's totally true! I forgot about/blocked out that aspect of those things. When they fall of the wall or ceiling it's that moment in the horror movies where the zombies crash through the boarded up windows. Run!!!

Luckily, I've only seen a swarm of centipedes/cocoons once, and that was in Capitol Reef here in Utah; they were all over the wooden walkways, in the trees, and you could barely take one step with squishing one underneath your new shoes. :hmpf_bad:

I was once in my room a few years back and a spider started skittering past and it was like sticks walking across the floor!

I never did catch the great Stick Spider; I'll get you Moby Stick!

Um, OK...so you ate them?*huh* *huh*

Yes. It's hard not to, when they're so small, there are so many, and they're everywhere. They get into the salt, the sugar, even the boiled tap water that's left out to cool. You can wash most of them out of the vegetables, which they crawl into in the fridge, but there's never any guarantee you've got them all. I'll occasionally find them in the leaves of vegetables just before putting it into my mouth, but only if I'm looking really carefully. It's really better not to think about it and just enjoy the food.

Absolutely hate centipedes. But millipedes are really cool and completely harmless. I used to pick up the small ones and let them crawl in my hand, and they'll slowly make their way across my palm and fall into my other hand. When they get scared, they'll roll up into a ball like a pillbug. Then you can just roll them around like tiny dice. Centipedes now, they're aggressive little buggers. They'll definitely bite you if you try to pick them up.

What a gross topic!

My only experience of this was when I had my display in the garage. That was about three years ago I'd say, and I still can't forget the horrors I saw in there. I never knew there were so many different species of flying things with big hairy legs and wiggly eyes. :oh3: They crawled over everything, and left horrid little marks. I'm still cleaning Lego from back then, I might add. :hmpf_bad:

Poor Hinckley, finding all that in your old creations. I certainly would have been freaking out. Hope your move is going well, and I'm sure we're all looking forward to seeing pictures of your new set-up when you get there.

I'm glad I don't have to contend with centipedes here in New Zealand, but we certainly get a lot of bugs, especially spiders and such. I'm still waiting for a Kiwi to come nesting though...

I'm getting this very strong urge to go clean everything immediately.

Last night my cat brought in a mouse with no upper body and a severed head, it was a mess. But I stepped in it. Nasty! Today I ran on over with the garbage can. Poor little guy. My cat can still get mice a this age. I know Cirrus is coming to his end, but would it be appropate to make him a topic in the coummity fourm? I've known him since I was 8, My parents let me take him to my house after I moved out.

Absolutely! There's a pet thread right here. And don't give up on your cat. She probably doesn't even know she's old. She'll stick around as long as she needs to. My dog is 11 and she has no idea. Unfortunately, I'm moving away from her and she knows somethings up. She's watching me very closely as I'm packing. Then she follows me around the rest of the time. :cry_sad: This is going to be hard...

Okay, but you have angered the Kitty gods. Cirrus is a guy. He's an all white cat and he was named after that type of cloud.( my dad's idea)When I moved him to my house he liked it well. He also stared at me while I packed. Where I live now there are no other mean cats and plenty of mice for him to bring in.

I haven't suffered any real problems with any pets or vermin. Cats get the mice and rats, and everything else just stays away (must be something about living in a nice warm, dry house in a 'concrete jungle' :classic: ).

The only problem I've had so far is my cat trying to help me with some of my MOCs or when I'm searching for parts in my lego box. Sat on a (soon not to be) empty baseplate once.... :hmpf_bad:

Mind you, at leats the cat's nearing 12 (he called Jim after the kids show Rosie and Jim; yes, his sister is called 'Rosie) he sleeps and eats mostly

until he wants a cuddle or to go out at 5 o'clock in the morning...

My grandparent's live in the countryside, and every time you see a dark shadow going through the living room at High speed, it's not a ghost, but a mouse. Don't worry, they never get close to you.

There are mice/ants but they are only after the food. Height doesn't appear to be an obstacle for them. Never found any in my room except flies/mosquitos.

Reading the first post, it sounded like a children's movie. Mice using a lego structure as their own home with supplies.

So I was moving around my pieces, when I opened one of those drawer bricks, I saw to my horror a cockroach crawl out. This confuses me, since my house is usually very tidy. (My sister takes care of that  )

So does anyone know what I should do? Should I call the exterminator, or is there another way? I don't want to harm my bricks by putting poison all over them, so I am kind of stumped right now.

(And no, its not just one, its dozens of the little buggers.)

I merged your topic with this one as the answers are much the same.

In Australia cockroaches are bigger than mice.

*shutters* Anyway, I don't know much about pest but I'd find where they are first. They must have found something they like. You might be able to get rid of them yourself. As for your bricks I don't see why you'd need to put poison on them. I'd just simply clean the bricks with many of the techniques that have been talked about.

This thread has made me paranoid about most of my collection in storage back home. I know we have mice around our house, and though the dog does a good job on eating some of them (so much so that we scaled back her meals to stop her getting fat), the cats are useless. If mice were to get in the house they'd be a nightmare for my Lego. So far I've been lucky and the worst have been spiders and more bizarrely bees. A lot of bees actually. I've gotten quite effective at capturing and releasing them alive.

You can try sprinkling boric acid powder around to kill the roaches. Don't inhale or ingest the powder yourself.

I once had to pick up a North American cockroach and tossed it in the toilet. I didn't dare squash it after I got splattered with roach guts before from a smaller German roach.

Thanks Dr. Spock and JCC1004! I'll try your techniques.

Don't inhale or ingest the powder yourself

Don't worry, I'm not as stupid as I look

EDIT:

Oh megablocks, now I have even worse of a problem! After i posted my last message I braved my brick bin and opened it up to find....

They've been breeding in there! Theres a female and loads of eggs now too!

I'm wondering if I should go the simple way and dump a load of poison on them.... but that will probably harm the bricks....

The only thing I can be happy about is they seem to like the place where I keep my BURPs and LURPs. :cry_sad::sadnew:
