keetongu Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 Everbody this is an emergency!O.K. I woke up at 6:45 this morning (in the U.S where I live), I got dressed for school little did I notice what was in my hermit-crab cage, when I was about to walk down-stairs for breakfast when I hollered "AAHHH, mom!"for my hermit-crab Ivan was pale as a ghost and naked.I didn't know really what to do do.Before I wnt to school I discovered he had been a long time without water. When I got to school I was desperate and asking fo help.I feared and knew Ivan very well could die.Thank God some kids could help. They said "A new shell would help." or "Alot of food and water is needed." one kid who has a hermit-crab claims the same think happened to his crab.I am very sad :'( that this has happened.I have had him longer than my 1st hermit-crab.This is again a life and death situation :'( .Please post! Clues to solve this life-and-death mystery: 1.He's dehydrated. 2.He needs fresh food. 3.His cage needs to be cleaned. 4.He is out of his old shell and not in anew one. 5.There is a dead unremoved hermit-crab that got sick and died. Things I have done: 1.Hydrated him, his skin is pinker. 2.Checked on him every so often. 3.Put a lot of new shells for him to chose from. :'( :'( :'( :'( Quote
DoubleT Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 keetongu it seems you care very much for it, and i respekt that...... But ask you mother to call an Pet store.. They should be able to help... I doubt there is many that knows much about it here.... Quote

Evil Willy Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 I know a lot about herps...I own 3 gecko's...And other stuff and used to have hermit crabs...But this has to be a joke. 1.He's dehydrated.2.He needs fresh food. 3.His cage needs to be cleaned. 4.He is out of his old shell and not in anew one. 5.There is a dead unremoved hermit-crab that got sick and died. A dead unremoved hermit crab? needs foof..Dirty cage..No water..You just have to care for him that is disgusting its your fault if he is in a life and death situation and it is just a pitty....Just take care man..Give him fresh water...Clean everything..Spray him about with water from a clean windex bottle of something... Do that often, get him good food(Fresh) and just pray man. Pitty... Quote
Evil Willy Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 I see you care a LOT....Thats why you are telling us if anything helped and if hes doing good...Or saying thanks for that matter...No problem though Quote

They should be able to help... most petshop owners are idiots who just make money off animals and dont know crap about it... The real pros ARE of a rare breed...Anyways if hes still alive but still needs some help read this it should help...Hopefully he will be fine..Otherwise you will learn a hard lesson of life, and take care of your next one. gylman Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 Another surrealistic Keetongu post. Where would Eurobricks be without them! Wouldn't want to spend ALL day talking about Lego after all. We all need some relief from this shared obsession once in a while. *wacko* Quote

I love you Right.....? :/ Always good to see another Keetongu post....... Maybe the Hermit crab is unwell because you have recently bought some Megablocks? Their fowl stench is enough for anything to fall ill....... Quote

JINZONINGEN73 Posted December 16, 2005 Posted December 16, 2005 Aw, poopy. Like George Carlin once said, "When you get a pet, you're not REALLY getting a pet, you're aquiring a future tragedy". Like Evil Willy said... no water & a dead crab in there with him? When shellfish (and some other creatures) die, they let off a powerfully dangerous toxin which can kill HUNDREDS of their brothers nearby. So, fast removal of dead crabs is a non-negotiable task you must satisfy. Before you rush out and get another one to replace him: 1. THOROUGHLY CLEAN THAT TANK, or get a new one. 2. Look up online hermit crab fan boards. Again like Evil Willy said, ALOT of pet store owners are just clueless scumbags out for a quick buck. They WANT you to replace pets. Go to true fans to see how they should really be cared for. 3. Find out what a normal, healthy lifespan for a captive hermit crab is. Quote
JINZONINGEN73 Posted December 16, 2005 Posted December 16, 2005 Okay, since I myself have been interested in getting hermit crabs, this topic made me get off my butt & get educated. http://www.hermit-crabs.com/links.html Looks like a good place to start as any. (Some links are down, but a few important ones remain). Quote
Sarg_Kulo Posted December 16, 2005 Posted December 16, 2005 I'm really sorry about your loss. I'm sure he was a good pet and a part of your family you'll never forget Quote
keetongu Posted December 16, 2005 Author Posted December 16, 2005 My mom says it'll be a while before I get another hermit-crab :( . I 'm gonna do triops now!(Tri means 3, ops means eyes.) Triops are fish. After triops it's back to hermit-crabs(I'll be doing triops til' I can have crabs again.) then triops again, da da da da da da. Quote
