samthelegoman1 Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 (edited) Sorry, but from what I've heard, LEGO has a policy that they won't make any realistic war vehicles. Well, they did make the Red Baron's Tri-plane aircraft, which was in duty during World War I. The Indiana Jones Video Game also featured numerous Nazi vehicles and the Mark VII tank. Rijkvv Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 The U.S. is the only good country What!? Well, they did make the Red Baron's Tri-plane aircraft, which was in duty during World War I. The Indiana Jones Video Game also featured numerous Nazi vehicles and the Mark VII tank. And don't forget the Sopwith Camel.
Capt. Kirk Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Well, medieval Europe didn't have undead armies or magicians. Military campaigns didn't center around kidnapping princesses. Most war in colonial times did not center around pirate islands or stealing treasure. It's been romanticized in that way. Romanticized modern war would be something like Adventurers. --> That's true and I understand what you trying to say, but what about the old sets ?
samthelegoman1 Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 What!? And don't forget the Sopwith Camel. Hehe, woops
Capt. Kirk Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 I just need to throw something in real fast it's driving me crazy. Pacifists have it totally wrong there against the people who defend them sounds nice doesn't it? not. The countries of the world definitely can be defined as good or evil. The U.S. is the only good country and it's on a slippery slope with this new president Barack Obama ( i hate saying that name ) just look at the laws of the countries other then the U.S. Britain has ruined itself once a Government starts saying you can't even own a firearm anymore something is really messed up and i will die before i see that happen the the U.S. --> Please leave comments like this away in the future. This doesn't mean you can't have an opinion, your a free man but this is a LEGO forum and not a political forum. So please stay on topic. Thanks in advance. um you said that the middle ages where one of the most blood thirsty periods just to let you know the 20th century had more war and deaths then all the other century's combined. --> Please read my second line and I quote: So IMO I see no diff. in the violence between a Medieval battle and a WW battle (only with different wapeons).

JCC1004 Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 When will these people understand that the Indy soiders is the best military-like sets we'll have?
HumanPackMule Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 When will these people understand that the Indy soiders is the best military-like sets we'll have? Probably when the Indy line ends. They won't know they had it good til' it's gone.
The Who Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 (edited) When will these people understand that the Indy soiders is the best military-like sets we'll have? Well, if Lego doesn't directly make a military line, it looks like they will use other themes like Indy and Toy Story. (click) Edited July 23, 2009 by booger540
keetong Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Well they have new toy story soldiers, I guess thats getting closer. Pic is link.(all the other prince of persia minifigs are also on the profile.)
The Who Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Now that I look at the soilders again, I see that all of the torsos and even one of the helmets are/is printed.
Capt. Kirk Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I understand what your saying now i just read through your post to quickly. To all members... always read someones post double or triple so you understand what the guy is trying to say and avoid misunderstandings and overreactions !!! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I think in general we all say the same thing only everybody say it in a different way. With other words,... TLC has a no violence policy but in some themes they walking on a thin line. Can we agree on this ? But where we gone place this one... is it fantasy or the real deal ?
5150 Lego Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 (edited) When will these people understand that the Indy soiders is the best military-like sets we'll have? How do you know? Do you work directly for TLC? Do you decide what themes TLC creates? I remember yrs ago when i first joined this site someone brought up an Indiana Jones theme, and many dismissed the idea that it would never happen. Well now look. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I think in general we all say the same thing only everybody say it in a different way. With other words,... TLC has a no violence policy but in some themes they walking on a thin line. Can we agree on this ? Nope. Sorry, i can't agree with this at all. Violence is just that. There is no "fine line" Either the theme has it, or it doesn't. If you look at all the signs around you, TLC's so called "No violence" policy is non existent. When you prove that violence exists in nearly every theme they do, people like to make excuses like "Well, its a licenced theme" or, "The hand guns are not modern,so its ok" like that makes it less violent. Feel many people just don't understand that those of us that want a "War" theme do not want a theme dedicated to a specific war in time, but modern military type vehicles. Not a WWII theme, not a Cold War theme, not a Desert Storm theme. Just modern military vehicles. There's nothing wrong with that. It doesn't even have to be a theme. UCS sets, or even creator sets (which they actually have been doing with the F-14 style jet and Harrier. They did make a Harrier didn't they?) People just don't want to accept that the signs are all around you. Its not a matter of if, but when. And for those that do in fact want a modern war theme, that's more than feasible. You can have the green, vs. tan team. I'm sure TLC will think of better names, but this way there's no country of origin. As much as people will never admit it, Starwars is just that... WARS It doesn't matter that its fantasy or not, the theme is based on a war. You can not argue this. Edited July 23, 2009 by 5150 Lego
Emperor Claudius Rome Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Stop making my brain hurt! I'll sum it up quickly: Real war= bad, fake war= less bad. Pirates, castle, Inday and Star Wars are fake! They might have violence, but they're not as bad as something based on a real event okay
Capt. Kirk Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Nope. Sorry, i can't agree with this at all. Violence is just that. --> I fully agree with you (read my posts please)... and that's what I'm trying to say... TLC walking on a THIN LINE. With this I mean that their policy is vague. Or even non existent and they just use their so called 'non violence policy' as a shield... if you understand what I'm trying to say. We don't may forget thet TLC is a company and to stay alive the need money... they're not a benevolences institution. Some my say that it's fantasy or romanticized. Or like you said: "Well, its a licenced theme" or, "The hand guns are not modern, so its ok". . At the end it doesn't makes it less voilent. That's also my point and it doesn't matter that it's fantasy or not.

They might have violence, but they're not as bad as something based on a real event okay Pirates and Castle were very much real. And no one was asking for a theme based on a real war. --> I fully agree with you (read my posts please)... and that's what I'm trying to say... TLC walking on a THIN LINE. Glad thats all cleared up.
Capt. Kirk Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I'll sum it up quickly: Real war= bad, fake war= less bad. --> I can follow you thought but violence is violence... no ! Pirates, castle, Inday and Star Wars are fake! --> I don't want to sound impolite but you know someting about history. They might have violence, but they're not as bad as something based on a real event okay --> Pirates Theme Pirates aren't fake... they real have excisted and the timeframe they lived in wasn't peace, love and happiness. --> Castle Theme Medieval periode isn't fake... it's one of the bloody pages in European history. --> Indiana Jones Theme Indy it self is fake but not the timeframe... WWII (see picture and who do you think you see ?).
HumanPackMule Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 But where we gone place this one... is it fantasy or the real deal ? I don't think Lego is going near the war theme with this. I think they're just trying to include some of the memorable characters from Toy Story in minifig form. Not once in the movies did the army men shoot anything. They were just serving as birthday and christmas scouts.
Rijkvv Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I'm not happy with licensed themes, and the Toy Story figs look like M###Bl#ks, but I'm happy with those soldiers. I think they are very useful for MOCs.

I think they're just trying to include some of the memorable characters from Toy Story in minifig form. Not once in the movies did the army men shoot anything. They were just serving as birthday and christmas scouts. So why couldn't kids do the same (use there "military") as scouts? This brings up a good point that militaries od the world do alotmore than just fight. Many help other countries(as wellas there owb) in times of disaster. The purpose of a military is not to kill. But to help and protect.

Indy----See Below. Star Wars----Some things in OT and PT are "Metaphors" of real events. Hard to explain. --> Indiana Jones ThemeIndy it self is fake but not the timeframe... WWII (see picture and who do you think you see ?). Right. Indy may be fiction, but there is more of a reality to Indy movies than people think. Most of the things in the movies are based on real events and objects. The purpose of a military is not to kill. But to help and protect. That is exactly right. People just get confused because killing can be classified as protecting.

Peppermint_M Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Ah, I am stuck in a conundrum. Although I am not a fan of violence or army, I have to admit that fantasy conflict interests and engages me. I am against making really warlike sets but then as a bit of a history buff, I want to make viginettes of famous photos/images from the wars. I am torn, a nuetral pacifist (as much as I can be without betraying my core value of defending myself and those weaker than myself on a one to one basis) by association (although I am very opinionated, I don't want to force them on others, hence the nuetral part) I also adore camoflage, kahki and military surplus gear.... (I AM CONFLICTED ) I think the Army Men will be a welcome addition for many and they can stop complaining and use Indy, Toy Story and a mixture of other themes to fulfill their warmongering needs. In the end it is all TLG's choice on how things will play out and be presented.
