I'm worried that we'll be seeing Harry's junk in DH. :look:

Yeah, that is a concern. If you'd like, I'll go see it tonight, then post in a spoiler if

Harry's junk is displayed

I saw Deathly Hallows last night (in 2D), it was awesome. It was much much better than I feared from early reviews. By far the best of the David Yates films, it captures the book very well, and is edited very well. For the first time, all of the lead trio deliver really great performances. Weak points - They could have done more with the government being the bad guys, and Bill Nighy was unusually poor. Strong points - well, judge for yourself.

As a massive Harry Potter fan, I am awarding it a full :classic: :classic: :classic: :classic: :classic:

I watched the film and while the Animation was excellent and in general the film was totally awesome there were a few bad points.

1. Battle of whinging seemed rushed.

2. Hedwigs death changed.

3. From a early clip of the film, Ginny and Harry were kissing when George goes morning to them, However in the film he says it after.

4. The exclusion of some characters, Ted Tonks, a Wizard and Gornuk (A goblin) were meant to be killed by Snatchers never happened.

5. A early image showed Ginny at the wedding however this image did not appear in the film.

End of rant :classic:

I watched it unexpectedly today with a friend, it was rather an impulsive decision and I usually don't make such decisions. I planned to watch it a month after the release, not in the same week!

But Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 was awesome. It lived up to my expectations and I just loved it. To me, this is the best Harry Potter film (and book) till date, and I think it's especially because of the sudden change: away from the school. I must admit, I was growing tired of the magic school of Hogwarts, I just loved the seventh book because because of that. They left school and are suddenly pushed into real life. The film portrayed that well and there were many highlights, including the animation. I was also impressed by the cinematography and the music, but it's only recently I've really become interested in films and everything to do with them, so perhaps that's why it stroke me. But I'll do an elaborate review later on, tomorrow when I have settled my thoughts about it.

I am going to see it tommorow and I see my the reviews that it is going to be spectacular. I don't want to see any dramatic changes because the book was mind blowing in it's own right and I think the movies should only add to that.

Those small changes don't seem that bad. Hedwigs death seems more prominent to me. Instead of dying in a cage he dies saving his owner and friend. A moving seen and one which I will have mixed feelings about. I heard the context in which the snatchers are called is different as well. I will have to see but the chase seems to be more action filled and exciting than just surrendering to them- More classic Harry Potter with a battling spirit that being weak.

I will post my feelings on Monday or when I get to grasp with what I just seen.

Just remembered another change

Fenrir Greyback in the book was supposed to be the leader of the group of snatchers however in the film he was not the leader and Scabior was instead.

I just say it. It was great, except

Why did Hermione Obliviate her parents? They never explain why she did it, and it wasn't even in the book! Honestly, I think they just wanted to add angst!

Also

why no Herminipples?

Edited by Emperor Claudius Rome

They did tell about Hermione obliviating her parents in the books. It was mentioned. Kind of like the Death Eaters stopping the train was only mentioned.

Oh, and I wish they had just made it R rated and let her show off her Herminipples

One thing I found annoying that they skipped out on:

In the Ministry scene (in the book) Harry stole Made-Eye's eye from the door and buried in the Forest of Dean, but in the book he only noticed it! I thought that was a really touching part of the book, so...

Also:

No "Goodbye Dursleys" and/or "I don't think you're a waste of space, Harry" scene? They could have put it in instead of the Hermione obliviation scene.

I thought Obliviate wiped the mind? In the book, she modified their memories.

Finished the first book yesterday. It was awesome! It made the Lego sets make sense too.

I agree, I finished the first book a couple of weeks back, and with me too it made the Lego sets make sense.

~buddy~

Saw the movie today with the wife and kids, we all thought it was quite good despite the missing and modified parts - we all know they need to change things a bit to fit into a movie, and it may be because I haven't read the book since it came out, but I think I was the least critical of this one about missing stuff since GOF. Like I said, though, normally I've read the books right before the movies were released, and have been hypercritical of important things I felt they left out.

I, too missed the Dursley scene at the beginning. I think it's sad they spent so little time with the Dursleys, some really great moments were missed, and this last one would have been very touching and would have really suited the movie. Too bad more movies don't pull a "Lord of the Rings" and shoot extended and edit to theatrical release so that fans can have something extra when released for sale.

My memory may be shaky, but I also felt like they shouldn't have cut out when Harry gives Kreacher the worthless locket. While they mention Snape has taken over as headmaster at Hogwarts, unfortunately they don't go into detail about how terrible conditions there are.

The other changes... minor condensing and reordering to make things fit in the movie; I have no problem with it.

I will say this, up until now, for me, each book was better than the last, and each movie, while I had my problem with them, were better than the last... up until now. It's probably only because you only get half of the story, because honestly, I thought what we've seen so far was very well done... so I'll reserve judgement until I see both parts and consider it one, I think that's fair.

I think it's quite clear at this point that this thread is going to be used to discuss the film, so you all don't need to put everything in spoilers. If you really want to, knock yourselves out… but I don't think it's necessary.

I also found the film very good, though it's still sinking in. I am going to see it for a second time shortly so that I can truly let it wash over me.

This was the first time that the filmmakers really left nearly everything in the book in the film, which was quite good. I really didn't mind and actually appreciated some of the changes to characters' parts that Kloves had written in the past, such as giving Dobby's part in GoF to Neville, but I also certainly enjoyed the inclusion of so many minor characters in this one, from Mundungus to Thickness to Yaxley, etc. Heck, they even left in Gregorovitch and Grindelwald! The commissions that Kloves did make were totally fine as well, such as quickly skipping to the Ministry infiltration, not including Potterwatch, and some others. There are simply too many long, drawn out periods in the book to include in a good film.

As I've thought for some time about these films, the characterizations different from the books are truly brilliant. All that angst between Lupin and Tonks is acceptable, but I rather like their happier demeanor in the films. The trio is also changed for the better. By this film, their characters are rather similar to the books, but the way that they were changed for HBP so that Hermione and Harry can commiserate about their crushes is a brilliant divergence from Harry's shyness about it in the book. You can easily believe where they are emotionally in this film, whereas in the books it was a bit of a leap.

I also loved the added humorous touches in certain sequences that are not in the book at all. I never imagined that Harry would seem silly as Runcorn, but the entire Ministry sequence in the film was hilarious while still having extremely dark overtones. That's quite a mix of things that it is not often done in a lot of mainstream films, but Yates and everyone else pulled it off very well.

I can't wait to see this film at least one more time in the theater, and then to see part two next July!

I just saw it too, and of course loved it! Very well done, very enjoyable, and very true to the book! And it has put me in quite a HP MOCing mood! :sweet:

By the way, can a mod please turn the poll into a public poll and include the other two movies so that we can update our votes?

Here are some of the changes for part two.

The scene where Ron and Hermione kiss is thought to be changed to take place in the Chamber of Secrets.

It has been announced that the character Vincent Crabbe will not appear in the movie due to the drug charges against actor Jamie Waylett, and that Gregory Goyle will die in his place.[234]

In the film, Mr. Ollivander appears to be familiar with the Deathly Hallows, while in the book, he doesn't understand what the term means.

Some changes made for the Half-Blood Prince film, such as the circumstances of Harry hiding the potions textbook, may also result in some additions.

A recent trailer description said that Voldemort will be searching for Harry in the woods

A featurette description also said that we will see the Quidditch pitch burn down.

Blaise Zabini will be present in the Room of Requirement with Draco and Goyle as a replacement for Crabbe.

Wormtail, who survived Part 1, may return (and possibly die).

The final battle between Harry and Voldemort will be extended, and while other parts of the second phase of the Battle of Hogwarts will be shown, the primary focus will be centered on Harry and Voldemort.

EDIT: Daniel and Emma on the kiss in part one :tongue:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13Ak__aZJkE&feature=related

We better get sets on it! I'll be pissed if we don't.

I sure hope we get sets plus some HP ones. I missed out on a lot of the old ones.

So did I.
