Because Lego did not want it in their because they probably don't have that much space yet. However it would allow for a extra attraction at Legoland Windsor because if you think, you can get the visitors to do the work whilst visiting!

And take it down again, if visitors can keep a bag of bricks each! What's going to happen to the bricks now? I hope they donate them to some charitable organization for children or so...

Well the Charity donated the bricks in the first place, so they will probably give them back to the charity to give to the children.

Wow, this thing was huge, but it was just stupid of them to take it down...

And it is horrible the way they do it! Breaking LEGO down with a hammer?!

Those tiny little bricks are living creatures! :hmpf:

I have seen this before when some 'kids' threw an awesome large creation onto the ground and then smashed it with a hammer causing the bricks to completely break!

Not good...

Oh it brings back memories of how you go to pick up a brand new model. And Boom, Crash. It slips out your hands and down to the floor. Thats what happaned to my Republic Gunship, But I built it back up! (After about 5 days I eventually thought, might as well)

There's no other way of saying it - this is a disgusting waste. The pictures of workmen taking hammers to all those new Lego bricks just makes me angry.

If James May REALLY loved Lego he would have thought this through before taking advantage of everybody's time and effort (not to mention the donation of so many bricks) so that this situation would not have arisen. Even if he couldn't find a taker for the house in advance, why not just charge people to help dismantle the house and keep a bag of bricks each, and give the money to charity ? Physically smashing the bricks is a disgrace.

As it stands, this has ended up just looking like a cynical publicity stunt with a sour ending.

I couldn't agree more, this whole project has been a complete waste of resources.

apparently it's only being demolished becuase the vinyard wanted the space back - despite the fact that it'll be about 4 months before they'll have even the remotest chance to plant the vines themselves...

I heard someone saying that many pieces were donated, if that is true then that is bad, very bad, if people donate pieces and stuff to him to make this and then he breaks it down then that is really horrible, a waste of money, time and resources.

Very sad this is, indeed...

Yes this is good news, i'm sure those bricks will now be put towards a constructive purpose. Will be interesting to see the projects LegoLand have in store for the Annual Building Event.

I agree with the sentiments of many of you that this could have been handled better. To see all those bricks go to waste after alot of time and donations were made makes me mad. I am glad to hear that all the pieces are being tranported to Legoland where they will get a second life.

Makes me wonder how they will load them up. Break out the shovels or bring in the front end loader?

Why didn't they think of this before starting the build? I'm sure if they would have chosen the appropriate spot (as transportation costs seem to be the issue), it wouldn't have been torn down... why not build it inside one of the Legoland parks in the first place?

If you read the article, it states that originally Legoland Windor had plans of buying and transporting the house to Legoland, but withdrew after they learned it would cost to much to transport. So it seems there was a plan in the beginning. It may not have been a well thought out plan, but there was a plan. :classic:

But they are going to transport the bricks to legoland to be used in an annual building event. From there it is only a short step to allowing volunteers to come in and help rebuild the house in return for some free time round legoland. Just a thought. This time, now that it has been proven possible to build a full size lego house, I would allow the use of glue and (hidden) steel framework for health and safety reasons, and also to stop people robbing the house peice by peice! I would think that to have the actual house that James May built out of lego and to be able to walk around inside it for yourself would bring in alot of extra customers/revenue for legoland.

Certainly was an awesome house, though if it was for a show, and aperently just a very short amount of time why not just make sifferent stage sets to film on? Anyway it seems like LEGO is taking a lot of abuse lately, with this he Mythbusters and Ben Ten sets

Tomorrow Sunday 20th December, BBC 2, 7PM - James May's Toy Stories

Interesting to see how it comes out in film; the ones so far have been really good.

I saw this listed as news on the front page. So this is just only NOW going to air on Brit tv? I saw a whole bunch of videos on youtube about this a couple months ago or something like that after I read an article about it. I had never even heard of this guy. Then I found out he has a show on British tv about toys or something so I downloaded a season but haven't watched it yet. I previewed an episode and it seemed very interesting. American tv often copies a lot of British TV shows so I won't be surprised if they make a US version. I only recently learned that US shows like "Three's Company," "All in the Family," and even "Jackass," and some others were all taken from British show versions. I heard they were going to do a couple Lego shows so maybe that is it.

Indeed, Dutch cable companies also carry BBC1 and BBC2. Just remember: it starts at 20.00 instead of 19.00 in The Netherlands...

Just watched it. That was fantastic! I hadn't seen the Meccano, Plasticine or Scalextric episodes - didn't know about them, since I don't normally watch tv - but they looked cool too. The house was fantastic. Pity it looks doomed. Probably murder to clean, though, with studs everywhere....
