Azrael Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 (edited) What a great site! I can’t believe I hadn’t found this earlier! I just completed a mammoth undertaking loosely based on the MV Horizon and MV Zenith two sister ships that used to be with Celebrity Cruises. She’s about 8’2” Long, 1’Wide and Just under 2’ High. Currently complimented with 100 minifigures, Staff, Officers and Passengers. There is an open Facebook Gallery Here if you want to see more pictures, I don't want to spam your bulletin board. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=1151...mp;l=01a3496e95 Love this site! I am sure I’ll be spending many hours here! Thanks in Advance ~Aaron Edited July 15, 2009 by Hinckley Title refinement. ;) Quote
Luke McAwesome Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 (edited) Welcome to Eurobricks, please go introduce yourself here and tell us about yourself! That ship is amazing; did it take you long to build it? Edited July 15, 2009 by Striker™ Quote
Hinckley Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 This is absolutely amazing! It so realistic and detailed and looks so much like the actual ships. I have more to say, but for now I just wanted to let you know, welcome to the site! but I'm going to fix your topic title and description so people know what to expect when they see it in the topic list. I think you'll get more views that way. Also, please take a minute to check out the "Hello! My name is..." forum under the Community heading and maybe introduce yourself there. Thanks! I'm so happy to have you here! Quote

Azrael Posted July 15, 2009 Author Posted July 15, 2009 Welcome to Eurobricks, please go introduce yourself here and tell us about yourself! That ship is amazing; did it take you long to build it? Hi there, thank you for the compliment, and the welcome! It took around nine months off and on building, I guestimated around 10 hours a week to be conservative, so around 360hours. There was a Crazy month in there, where we bought a new house and got married and such… LOL With most large scale projects it’s a shame, most of the time and detail went on the inside where no one can see. *laugh* As I mentioned before I am a an actual cruise ship designer, so I built her as I would out of steel, she has the same number of watertight bulkheads and firezones inside as the Actual Horizon and Zenith, she even has an elaborate crash bulkhead in her bow (Which I hope she never has to use ;-) Thank you again for the welcome and the compliment! Talk soon! ~A This is absolutely amazing! It so realistic and detailed and looks so much like the actual ships. ACCURATEin Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 WOAH!!! Super impressive MOC here. I'm sure it feels great to be finished and to sit and admire the final product. Congratulations and job well done. Welcome to Eurobricks! Nice..i just seen all of the pictures in the facebook album. Does she have a scheduled Maiden Voyage in the future?! I see her sitting beside the pool. It looks tempting to lower her into the water. I might also suggest a railing for the upper deck, and perhaps the use of some tiles in certain locations. I like how the minifigures are scattered about the ship. Quote

I like how the minifigures are scattered about the ship. Thank you for the compliment, Yeah I did have railings on the upper decks, Strange optical illusion, it made her look very choppy… I might have just chosen the wrong railings, not sure. As far as the maiden voyage… LOL she could possibly float, but what you see there at the board is the actual waterline of the ship, I would need to make another lower three decks solid and use the weight blocks LEGO has to keep her from tipping (Whole Iceberg theory) As heavy as she is, her lower decks would have to be 2/3rd heavier than her upper decks. She does have enough surface area to displace her own weight to make her float, possibility for the future I guess ;-) Well thanks again! Talk soon! ~A Quote
Captain Zuloo Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Fantastic ship there! Often cruise ships are seen, but never any this big and detailed. All the smaller ones kinda suck too. But fantastic effort with yours, I like the coulours and the proportions. Welcome to Eurobricks. Quote

I am pleased with her scale and proportions, Not sure if its “LEGO Cheating” or not, but I built her from scaled to LEGO actual blue prints of the ship. Not to mention a long long time ago, I used to live and work aboard the Horizon and Zenith for four years or so… so they are very much “my homes” LOL Thanks again! Talk soon! Quote
Perterz Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Very impressive MOC, I enjoy looking at a beautiful large ship from time to time. My mother has this thing with sailers while I'm deeply impressed by massive ships. My grandfather used to work in the docks. Anyway your ship looks very good, well constructed, especially the frontbow. Also the colorsheme and execution is spot-on and I'm really in with this somehow: Only bug for me is that I personally prefer a tiled finish, does it have interior? Would love to see it! Welcome to the forum aswell, it seems to catch a lot off people Quote

Welcome to the forum aswell, it seems to catch a lot off people Hi there, thank you for the compliment! I was thinking of a tiled finish, but was wondering if it would take away from the “Lego-ness” LOL Who knows, The above mentioned railing suggestion was good, and a tiled finish would without a doubt look good…But just when do I stop spending money on her LOL The Bow was tricky, that’s the third bow I made for her, Her first two were ‘ok’ but a bit too blocky and pointy. That bow is all solid, with an intricate crash bulkhead that no one will ever get to see LOL There is no interior, except for the little lido grill, and mast bar, but she does contain the exact same amount of fire zones and watertight zones as the actual Horizon and Zenith. Thanks for your note! If I tile her, Ill post more pictures and give you credit! ~A Quote
Col. Brik Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Very well done and the attention to detail is excellent. I see you mentioned you are a ship builder/designer as a career. Any pictures of the build threw its stages? I am curious to the structure underneath since you mentioned you built it as a ship is built. Again, well done. And welcome to EB, you will enjoy your stay. Quote
Jipay Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Woaw, that ship is huge ! Amazingly detailed it seems, as it looks like a model kit from a far perspective. Is it possible to have bigger pictures of the 2 you posted on EB in order to zoom and see more details ? Quote
Buckshot Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Wow--you certainly know how to make an entrance! 8' ship--a wonderful MOC. Thanks for sharing! Lego OCD, eh? You'll fit right in on Eurobricks Quote
