Modulex Guy Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Now I know that my post count is not high enough to post in the trade boards yet, but, I just have one question: Are we allowed to trade not LEGO Items for LEGO?? For example of what I want to do: I have about 300 Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars mint in package that I really don't need anymore (thinning out my other hobby collection), most are limmited editions, rare variations, common cars, etc. Could I trade them for LEGO? to someone who also collects diecast cars? Siegfried Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 No. LEGO for money, money for LEGO, LEGO for LEGO... and that's it. Now I know that my post count is not high enough to post in the trade boards yet Actually it is. Quote

The Who Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Could I trade them for LEGO? to someone who also collects diecast cars? I collect vintage Redline Hotwheels, but that probably should not be discussed here. No. LEGO for money, money for LEGO, LEGO for LEGO... and that's it. So we're not even allowed to discuss non-Lego things in PMs, as far as trading? Quote

I'm assuming the same rules apply to PM's. Quote
Siegfried Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 I was under the impression that any trade that involved LEGO in some form was acceptable, but I guess I was wrong. I'm assuming the same rules apply to PM's. Our guidelines and rules can be summarised like this; EB is a fan site about LEGO targeting adults. Anything that deviates from that generally is not wanted here for one reason or another. I think we are quite loose in what we do allow here in our community forum, and that is because we want people who have met via this site to have a place to talk about other things from time to time. The sales forum is a special case. Laws regarding sales and export vary wildly... and we want as little part of it as possible. It's natural that people who love LEGO want to buy and sell it, and that's why it's here. But allowing sales/trades of non-LEGO items opens up the risk of abuse. Example? Let's say that I had a collection of Pez dispensers and I open a topic saying that I'll exchange those for any LEGO. Member A is a closet Pez collector and PMs me. As it turns out, I'm not a LEGO fan at all so when Member A PMs me I say "Oh darn, you've got nothing I want... how about you just buy them?" Member A loves Pez, so this offer is reasonable to him. Do you see how easy it is to abuse the system? That's the main reason for this rule. The BSTF is a service to our members, and we have no interest in becoming a fee-free eBay. In regard to PMs, I really shouldn't need to say it, but obviously that isn't allowed either. Afterall, sales PMs without request can result in a ban, and since we don't allow people to post non-LEGO sales then you have no way of knowing what someone is selling. However, and this is a big however, if you know someone is a collector and you're friends with them, then there's nothing we can do about PM trades. Just remember that we do ban people for unsolicited PMs, especially if they are a new member. (Any further subtle posts in this topic about what people collect will result in me changing the item to "Bratz Dolls". ) Quote
