just2good Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Forgot to post the clip from the new MLP episode today. It features an 'I Love Lucy' reference. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFj9Cxt4oD8 Seems like it will be an interesting episode. Quote
CM4Sci Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Derpy spoke! I was so excited! Great episode today. Hope we hear more from Derpy.. -Sci Quote
Tamamono Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Wow, that episode was amazing! Derpy getting a speaking role and being addressed by her fanon name just made my day. Plus, the rest of the episode was pretty good as well! Pinkie annoying everypony with her Cherrychanga (poor Rarity at the end! ), stagecoach chase with AJ, and Big Mac's manly tears were some other highlights of the episode. May your everyday life be filled with PONIES! Indeed! My life certainly is. IMHO, My Little Pony Friendship is Magic is the best TV show for children, and adults, and entire families. The morals, and lessons it gives are just outstanding for a little kids show. Also, not to mention, the animation is amazing, and the voice actors are perfect! (As are the singers) Overall, it is a great TV show, with great animation, actors, and morals. This. Derpy spoke! I was so excited! Great episode today. Hope we hear more from Derpy.. Me too! I can't believe they actually gave her that many lines - and the voice is perfectly fitting! I think that might actually be Ashleigh Ball (the voice of Rainbow and AJ). Quote

Tamamono Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 It was actually Tabitha St. German (Rarity) Wow, really!? She must be incredibly talented. She also does Luna and Granny Smith, and both of those characters sound pretty distinct as well. Quote

Donut Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Just finished rewatching Cowboy Bebop. One of my favourite series, and one I notice new things about every time. Great show, was really ahead of its time. My favorite episode is when the left over food from the fridge attacks. Man, I have been watching Redline. This is one awesome anime film, so cool. I just watched the trailer of it after reading your comment, and the animation looks so fluid! Also read some good reviews about it so I am definitely going to be checking this out in the near future. Quote
Perry the Platypus Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Derpy spoke? *SCREAMS LITTLE GIRL SCREAM* Mad at me for not recording this. I missed the new episode. Quote
just2good Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Derpy spoke? *SCREAMS LITTLE GIRL SCREAM* Mad at me for not recording this. I missed the new episode. Here's the clip. She also has a line a few minutes after. I really liked the episode. The voice of Derpy was fitting, and there were a few great jokes in it! 9/10 Quote
Peanuts Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 I honestly didn't expect too much of the new MLP episode, but it was brilliant, with Derpy speaking for the first time. They're now directly addressing Bronies even within the show. I also liked the stagecoach chase, and Pinkie Pie (chimmy cherry, cherry chonga...) Quote
Tamamono Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Yeah..I just screamed when I heard Rainbow say "Derpy" Oh, good. I thought I was the only one who did that. Here's the clip. She also has a line a few minutes after. *snip* I really liked the episode. The voice of Derpy was fitting, and there were a few great jokes in it! 9/10 "I just don't know what went wrong!" Poor AJ. She finally got an episode of her own, and she got outshined by Derpy! They're now directly addressing Bronies even within the show. Eeyup! Just like back in the Equestria Girls extended version - they made a call out to DJ PON-3 (or Vinyl Scratch, as others may know her). Quote
Oky Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 Yeah, the episode was pretty good. I was put off by the Derpy sequence at first since I never imagined her to be so... slapsticky, but I'm getting used to it now. The best part was Fluttershy's line at the end. Damn, she can't even be cheesy without being adorable! They're now directly addressing Bronies even within the show. Yeah, although they were kinda doing that before with easter eggs like Nyan Dash. I just hope they wont overdo it with the fan service. But now we know why Derpy wasn't in the last few episodes; because they were preparing her for her big canon appearance. Poor AJ. She finally got an episode of her own, and she got outshined by Derpy! Oh well, there's always Applebuck Season, I guess. Quote
Batbrick Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Just finished watching a show I hadn't seen before, but has now become one of my favourites: Planetes. Brilliant anime, especially for hard science fans. Basically about garbagemen in space, but much more exciting than that sentence implies. Batbrick Away! Quote

Brilliant anime, especially for hard science fans. Basically about garbagemen in space, but much more exciting than that sentence implies. Batbrick Away! My sister did her Film Studies dissertation on that series. I did enjoy it, especially for the hard science involved. Also Fii is badass. (One of my favourite VAs too) Currently I am watching Busou Renkin and You're Under Arrest. A classic anime from a creator I like, one of the first I watched and a newer anime that I discovered after it was trailered on a DVD I recently bought. You're Under Arrest is a great cop show while Busou Renkin it a clever homage to Shonen anime. Quote
Lordofdragonss Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Haha, this MLP episode was clearly made for fans! So many new ponies styles! Quote
Perry the Platypus Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Any Phineoids (the equilvilant of Bronies) watch the new episode Friday? A great Indiana Jones parody. Quote
TomRoid Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 What do you people think of the assumption that cartoons are kids stuff? Quote
Perry the Platypus Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 What do you people think of the assumption that cartoons are kids stuff? Totally disagree. While some cartoons are particularly aimed at adults, that doesn't mean that adults can't enjoy things like MLP and PaF. I guess it just depends on what type of humor and style you like. Quote
Oky Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 What do you people think of the assumption that cartoons are kids stuff? The same thing I think about the assumption that building with Lego is kids stuff: It's an art form, and art should be able to be appreciated and created by anybody of any age or gender. I don't think this should be discussed in this thread though. Quote
just2good Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 What do you people think of the assumption that cartoons are kids stuff? I disagree with it. Anyone can like anything. I also hate how people think MLP:FiM is for little girls and homosexuals. I'm straight and I like MLP:FiM (not that LGBT are bad, but you can't just determine someones sexuality by a form of media they like). The most stupid thing I've heard recently? Fluttergay. Quote

The_Customizer Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Yes, this was by far the best episode we have had in a while! Brohooves all around! Now, since this is about cartoons, and anime (not just ponies) I have something i want to ask about. Has anyone watched the Ninjago cartoons? I have read a bit about them, and saw one, but it looked kinda lame. Quote
Oky Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 If you ask me, it is. As I said before, I probably wouldn't bother watching it if it wasn't Lego. But then again, I have only seen about four episodes, so don't take my word for it. Quote

Oh well, there's always Applebuck Season, I guess. Poor Applejack. Her only claims to fame are insomnia and overwork. Haha, this MLP episode was clearly made for fans! So many new ponies styles! Indeed! I noticed quite a few more male ponies (colts and stallions) in Ponyville Square for Applejack's speech, and there were some interesting designs and colorpatterns! I especially like that yellow unicorn colt with the lavender mane that was standing next to Twi at that part. Such a great colorscheme! Yes, this was by far the best episode we have had in a while! Brohooves all around! Brohoof! Quote
Aanchir Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 Yes, this was by far the best episode we have had in a while! Brohooves all around! Now, since this is about cartoons, and anime (not just ponies) I have something i want to ask about. Has anyone watched the Ninjago cartoons? I have read a bit about them, and saw one, but it looked kinda lame. I enjoy the Ninjago cartoon. The original one-hour TV special that aired in January of last year is available for free viewing in four parts on the official website ( 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 ), and there are six two-minute mini-movies if you scroll down. The 2012 season's episodes are even better than the ones I linked, at least based on what I've seen. Episode 2 "Home" is one of my favorites. There's a lot of humor that some people might consider childish (in "Home", for instance, the Ninja get in a food fight), but I still feel it's enjoyable, and the uniqueness of the characters makes the show quite fun to watch IMO. The balance of humor to dramatic tension is similar to many of the saturday morning cartoons I grew up with, including those that like Ninjago fit in the "fantasy martial arts" genre including Jackie Chan Adventures, Xiaolin Showdown, and Avatar: The Last Airbender (although the Ninjago series is nowhere near the work of art that A:TLA is, so don't raise your hopes unreasonably high). Even if you don't end up liking the show, it's hard to hate the music of it. Several tracks of it can be heard at the website of Jay Vincent, one of the composers. Tonight (8/7C on Cartoon Network) will be the first airing of Episode 3, "Snakebit," in the United States. I'm really looking forward to it, although since I haven't seen it I can't vouch for it being as enjoyable as the episodes I've seen so far. Quote
