Too bad you fried dough ring that cartoon.

What's the problem guys? They've been marketing Marvel at kids in cartoons for years. When I was a kid I got a Saturday morning block called Marvel Action Hour and watched X-Men, Silver Surfer, Incredible Hulk and Spiderman with my dad. These days there's a superhero squad and there are always comics targeted at kids.

Maturity levels are certainly evident in this thread.

There is no evident dumbing down, just an attempt to win a new audience.

I guess you are right, but things like this and the superhero squad do cause some problems. My little 6 year old brother watches them religiously and when the time the Marvel or DC movies come out in theaters he throws fits when we tell him that he is too young to go. I guess my real quarrel is just hoping that they don't lighten up ALL of Marvel, because over the past 5 or so years there has been a noticeable trend in not only television but also in more and more 'kiddie comics'. A major part of Tony Stark's life was the "Bottom of the Bottle" stretch where he was a struggling alcoholic, and that story line builds a lot of his character that he is later on, and I don't want Marvel losing the more mature things like that.

I guess Pep is right. They just want to target new audiences. I don't like the idea of that TV special, but I won't ruin it for people who do by complaining.

I see where Spider-Man is coming from though. I don't want Marvel to lose it's mature ideas and turn into a franchise solely for young kids. Luckily I don't see that happening. Think about all of the movies announced at SDCC! :classic:

This isn't the first time superheroes have been made kid-friendly, so there's no need to cause an uproar about it.

I'm still gonna watch this special, as I'm pretty curious (just like I want to see the P&F movie).

Kid friendly and mature co-exist fine. It is a problem with films but kids have to learn that its not all for them, same way my kid siblings get to read Tiny Titans but can't go near my TPB of Teen Titans.

SDCC 2012 Season 3 MLP:FiM songs! *oh2*

Neat, thanks! Although I wont watch them as I don't want any spoilers.

By the way, I checked out that new Carebears show thinking it just might be as good as MLP:FiM. Boy was I wrong! It completely lacks the charm, witty writing, and good animation of FiM. It's just another mediocre show that's clearly aimed at young children. In one episode, the characters spent 10 minutes debating over who should climb a ladder as if it was the most dangerous and difficult thing to do. Seriously. :hmpf_bad:

The series hasn't started in the UK yet but i saw the fisrt/pilot episode on disney XD today. I did't know much about the Tron universe but the fisrt episode seems to have explained the situation well, i'll definatly give it chance. The only problem i have art style wise is the origninal Tron's face, I mean it looks kind like count dooku's from the clone wars series. :sceptic:

Glad to see others here liking the show! :sweet: Yeah, Tron's face does look weird, but everyone else looks fine, I think.

Yep. Bryan Konietzko clarifies here that these additional 26 episodes will make up books 3 and 4 of The Legend of Korra.

Sweet! I don't think any of us had any doubt that there would be a second season, but it's good to have confirmation.

I doughnut really care about Phineas and Ferb, but for all of its fans, what do you guys think about this?

While it does seem like the kind of thing Marvel fans had feared when Disney bought Marvel, I don't see what's so bad about it. It's not like this is canon, and it's not like they'll make a whole series out of this in place of a more serious one or something. It's just a special crossover episode featuring Marvel characters. I don't see the difference between this and, say, Robot Chicken's upcoming DC special (which I'm excited for), and I don't see how this could possibly be worse than Super Hero Squad show or Ultimate Spider-man. I for one, being a fan of P&F and its humor, am looking forward to this. :classic:

Anyone else here watching Motorcity (besides Pepper)? I'm really starting to like this show. I love the Duke of Detroit! That dude's got style!

I checked it out recently too and I definitely agree with you. I don't doughnut like ranking on cartoons, but the show is pretty bad. :look:

Oh, and you have time to watch Carebears but no time to watch Gravity Falls?

Wow, seriously? That's some way to celebrate their anniversary by upsetting so many fans. :sceptic: As the article says, it's weird because they just started airing new episodes again, and it will be interesting to hear their explanation. Either way, I'm sure it's just temporary.

Anyway, I started watching the new TMNT series, seeing as we're getting Lego sets based on it, and it's not bad. Quite entertaining, actually. I have only seen Season 1 of the 80's show which was a bit too cheesy for my taste (no pizza pun intended) and a few episodes of the 2003 one which was pretty good in my opinion, despite its terrible theme song(s), so I was not influenced by nostalgia when I watched this new take on the franchise. The new show takes several aspects from all the previous incarnations of TMNT, including the comics (the Utroms, the white eyes during fight scenes, some of the comic book style scenes, especially in the intro) and the 80's cartoon (Splinter's origin, the chorus of the theme song), and makes some reasonable changes of its own, such as making April around the same age of the turtles so that the young viewers can relate to her better and she can relate to the turtles. It feels like a tribute to TMNT while being fresh and appealing to today's kids. The voice-overs are pretty good too. Rob Paulsen, after having voiced Raphael in the original, does a great job voicing Donatello, and Greg Cipes is a pretty good fit for Mikey. What I don't like so much about the show is that it is very light-hearted, almost more so than the original from the 80's (if that's even possible). The turtles personalities seem to have been amped up: Donatello is a wannabe Cpt. Kirk, Donatello is a total geek, Raphael is angry all the time, and Michelangelo is a childlike goofball. On one hand, this makes them appear much more like real teenagers, but it also makes the whole show seem less mature, and the anime-style comedic scenes don't help either. I wish they would make a TMNT show that's as serious and dark as the comics for once, like that underrated CGI movie from 2007 (which is still my favorite depiction of the characters). The 2003 series seemed to be going in the right direction, but didn't quite get there. But I guess the chances of that happening are pretty low since it's the lightheartedness that appeals to the young audience. One thing is for sure though: The new theme song is awesome! It has the catchy tune from the original cartoon and the beat and strings make it exciting and even more catchy! I've had it stuck in my head for weeks now, and this is coming from someone who usually hates rap music. :sweet:

What do you guys think?

I really like the new show Turtles too! It's hard to find time to watch it in college but having them online is a great bonus! I feel like the show is great for kids, since my 7 year old brother loves it, as well as people who grew up with the Turtles and can notice all the homages to the original ones!

Well, it's only for the rest of October (hopefully), so get over it. Besides, this will give you the time to catch up with TMNT and other shows.

Well, that sucks. Now I have to get over it. :sceptic: Have fun celebrating your anniversary, CN, while we wait for our new episodes. :hmpf_bad: At least we still have Avengers to get our fix of superhero action. Speaking of which, I'm glad they finally brought the Hulk back. It's always more fun with him around.

Right when I get into Young Justice and GL. :sceptic:

I know, I was starting to think the writer's forgot about him. I really did like the New Avengers episode this morning, and was actually depressed when the Avengers came back.

Super dissapointed in CN taking out Young Justice for the time being, it was just getting good, or that is to say, more good then it already was. There are so many moments of OMG's and squeals of excitment that it is super hard to contain myself for the most part. Just the whole dynamic of the show is really making me happy to be a DC fan.

This weeks episode was great, and leaves a lot of cliff-hangers, like what the heck is going on with Blue-Beetle! What is the history of the scarab, and what does it mean for the secret invasion. Also, GGG is super cool with Aliens all of a sudden, can you say pod-person? And what just happened to AquaLad? I imagine Megan will be super emotional, well more so then usual.

Hehe, me too, that episode was awesome. The New Avengers need their own spin-off!

If you must know, the scarab is

a tool of war created by an evil alien race called the Reach, as it was revealed in Batman: The Brave and the Bold (one of my favorite episodes from that mostly forgettable show). And I don't think Aqua Lad is a tripple agent, or at least I sure hope he isn't. :look:

Sorry if I'm derailing a discussion already in progress but I might as well throw my hat into the ring about cartoons: I love them. Everything from Walt Disney's Alice Comedies and such of the 20s to now, I like them all, but some of my favorites are Looney Tunes, Popeye, Tom and Jerry, The Jetsons, The Flintstones (To a lesser extent), Tiny Toons, He-Man, Animaniacs, Thundercats (80s series), TMNT (Both the 80s and 2012 series), Regular Show, MLP (Yes, the modern version, but also the 80s G1), The Simpsons, King of the Hill, to name a few.

As for superhero shows, my all time favorite was Batman: The Animated Series. Mark Hamill is still my all time favorite Joker (Though Cesar Romero and Jack Nicholson weren't slouches either), and the production quality was top notch. The backstories for the villains were all intricate and sympathetic (Like Mr. Freeze and his wife, for instance) and I actually enjoy it more now than as a kid (Since I can understand more of the writing now than back then).

I personally haven't been watching many cartoons other than Ninjago lately, but that's about to change this saturday when I attend a local meetup to watch the third season premiere of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Unfortunately, the place I'm staying doesn't get the Hub, so I won't be able to watch any of the episodes right when they air, but as long as Hasbro doesn't decide to exercise tighter restrictions on YouTube uploads of the episodes, I should still be able to keep up (as I understand it, they don't take down recordings of the episodes from the actual television airing, though they do take down iTunes versions of the episodes that are illegally uploaded).
