Oky Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 I'm sorry for the double post; however, I think you can watch at least some of the new TMNT cartoons on www.YTV.com, in Canada, but I'm not sure if you can view them in Hong Kong, China, so can anyone find out about this? It doesn't work in the US, so I'm guessing it wont work in China either. I would also like to know a good place to watch these episodes as my DVR didn't record the episode "I, Monster" for some reason, and oddly enough the nick website doesn't have it either, even though they have the episodes that came before and after it. That's very odd, for a company who produced the 2012 to 2013(?) TMNT TV series, to not have it (which is an early episode, by the way) on their website! Therefore, I wonder why it is that, so can anybody answer this? As for the person who wants to be able to watch the 2012 to 2013(?) TMNT TV series in China, I guess all that you can hope for is if someone uploads the episodes to YouTube. (That is the case, unless YouTube is banned or restricted in China -- but I'm not sure about this, so can someone answer this?) Edited March 15, 2013 by Good Cragger Fan Quote
Tanma Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 (edited) So anyone else saw the finales for Young Justice and Green Lantern? I watched them with my younger sister, and it was...different. She kind of ended up freaking out during both shows, clutching my arm till it hurt, and screaming bloody murder among uncontrollable sobs and hysterical nervous-laughter. She wasn't doing well. We both agreed that Green Lantern was the better finale of the two. It felt like an actually finale, there weren't any villain plots in the works that were left unresolved, and best of all it finished Razer's inner journey, from hateful bitter red lantern to a hopeful potential blue lantern. (my sister sobbed at that part) I mean yeah there were some side stories, we never got to see Sinistro go evil, and we didn't get to see the lantern entities, (my theory for Aya's survival is her power returned to the will entity) but those are not too upsetting, and a someone who didn't know the lore won't be bothered. Young justice on the other hand enraged my sister to shrieks of anger, which I agree with. From now on I will refer to Static as the Traitor, because that was so out of character and was just a gimmick ending. The runaways only have each other, they wouldn't split up. It really upset me. Not to mention Tim and Cass came out of nowhere, even more than Rocket and Kaldar, not to mention that Supermartian shouldn't come back yet, it won't be healthy. And why no Neverland, it would be nice to see Conner being independent. Likewise why is Kalder, Meagan, and Conner so fine with Wally's death? Not cool. And that is just characterization. Honestly it was not written well, and I will consider episode 19 as the true finale, unless I decide to cone with my, mass mind control that the remaining runaways have to fix fan fiction. Runaways Brotp! Edited March 17, 2013 by Tanma Quote

halomaster96 Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 Well, the Green Lantern finale was definitely one of the best endings to a tv show that I've seen. Although I wish it could continue as I would have loved to see the Sinestro Corps war, Blackest Night, etc. I'm still hoping we can save these shows, but I know that chance is slim at best. I still don't know how anyone could not like this show! Quote
Tanma Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 Okay so apparently there was some stuff cut from the episode that might have redeemed it. For instance they had planned some resolution for the runaways. (speaking of which, headbands is canon. Technically I prefer to ship the four of them as a group, but I have absolutely no objections. Headbands!) Now to consider whether or not to start a third fan fiction, detailing the runaways reforming to deal with pretty much all the heroes being infected with a version of that technomagic starfish things from season 1. (My theory is that the things were on the virus pods Luther gave out, allowing them to affective everyone at once. But since no one can be mind controlled like in season 1 thanks to the Team, the new batch will only influence their behavior, so that the team and the legue slowly dissolve under inner turmoil, and the Lightr losses their main threat. And that was why everyone was out of character in the finale.) Quote
Oky Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 I agree with most of what's been said. It's a shame to see Green Lantern go since there were still so many great stories to tell, but at least it went out on a good note. Young Justice was just... UGH! Green Beetle gets ruined, Wally dies, the Runaways split up, the team finally gets to work alongside the League, a story arc with Darkseid is being set up, and THIS is where they decide to end it?!? Are you friggin kidding me?! I didn't notice all the out-of-character actions the first time I watched the episode, but after rewatching it and reading all the comments here, they are starting to annoy me too and make me hate this episode even more. Summit would have been SO much better as a series finale, so I'm trying to forget that Endgame ever existed, but it's hard to just forget it. And seeing that preview of Teen Titans Go and how terrible it is doesn't help. And I don't know if you've heard, but it looks like we can add Transformers Prime to our list of cartoons that are really good and critically acclaimed, but get cancelled anyway for some stupid reason. At least we have one last, short season to look forward to which starts tonight. I'm sorry, but I'm just so pissed off. I don't usually like using memes on this site, but seeing all these great shows getting discontinued and replaced by mediocre ones leaves me no choice but to say: Quote
Tanma Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 (edited) I know, Transformers Prime was great. I feel like all the fans who were still enraged because animated got canceled hurt its chances, so I blame everyone who preferred animated and generation one. Young Justice could have ended so much better, but I already went into that. One small change that could have helped might have been to put the scene describing how at least Asami and Tye are still together. And dating, as it turns out. Doing that won't have done much, but since that scene was already designed it won't have been hard. And it would have improved the bit about the traitor sligfhtly, though not much. I still say everyone is infected by a new breed of the starfish virus. Although in other news there is a massive movement to continue Young Justice and Green Lantern in some capacity, so there might be hope, if CN/WB have any common sense. I don't know if it will work, but hey, blaze of glory is better than dying whimper. Edited March 23, 2013 by Tanma Quote

Oky Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 Well, the first episode of Teen Titans Go! was about as lame as it could be expected. Everything from the obnoxious to the lazy animation sucked. There's very little story and the only funny part was Raven watching My Little Pony Pretty, Pretty Pegasus, and that's just because she is voiced by Tara Strong. I wouldn't go as far as to call it a bad show, but knowing what kind of shows it replaced... Also, is anyone watching the new Max Steel? It's not a great show by any means, but enjoyable enough. I used to be a big fan of the original show back in 2000 which was made by the brilliant Greg Weisman, and this one isn't nearly as good. It has none of the great animation, mature tone, and cool spy plots that the original show had. I also don't like how they re-imagined the main characters as regular teenagers (like so many other shows seem to do nowadays). The only new character I sort of like is Steel. He kinda reminds me of Wheatley. It's not a bad show though, and at least it provides me with the fix of superhero action that DC doesn't give me now. Quote

xboxtravis7992 Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 (edited) Just rediscovered Animaniacs, a few months ago, and have worked my way through the first 3 box sets, with one box set to go (3 more if I want to start Pinky and the Brain). I think Animaniacs is an example in how horrible most modern cartoons are compared to their 1990's counterparts. First off the animation used in Animaniacs is some of the best television animation I have seen, every second of the show seems to suggest lots of love and artistry went into every frame and shot. What also amazes me is that Animaniacs used a live orchestra, constantly giving its music a wonderful quality. Not to mention the music is extremely catchy. However the best part of Animaniacs is its humor and characters. Some of the jokes in the show hid so much innuendos I think there were moments when Animaniacs could be dirtier than The Simpsons, yet those jokes were done in such a manner you would still feel comfortable showing the show to young children. Not to mention the humor was constantly smart and slapstick, appealing to young and old alike. Then that cast of characters, hard to forget the likes of The Warner Brothers and Sister, Slappy Squirrel, Pinky and the Brain, Chicken Boo, and the rest of the outrageous cast. However there are a few cartoons today which I enjoy,Phineas and Ferb has always been fun to me even if it is not quite as good as my favorite 1990's cartoons. I also enjoyed both incarnations of Clone Wars and for the short time it aired I enjoyed Tron Uprising. Not to forget Futurama, that wonderfully nerdy show which has been cancelled about 3 times now (although I think the latest one is for real this time). Yes I also enjoyed the extremely short lived Napolean Dynamite The Animated Series if only because of its very Idaho-Utah specific jokes (I am not surprised it got canceled so fast though, every time I watched it I thought "I love this because I am from Utah, but how could anybody outside Idaho and Utah find this funny?" Unfortunately I was proven right). I also enjoy watching The Simpsons despite how it feels like a shadow of its former self. The sad thing about the current animated world though is that there are so few animated series right now. Back in the 1990's we had The Disney Afternoon block, the Warner Brother/Amblin stuff, Cartoon Cartoons, and several other blocks I cannot even remember. Now it seems the only animated series going strong are The Simpsons and South Park. Futurama just bit the dust again, The Clone Wars is set to end and Tron Uprising never got off the ground. Even Phineas and Ferb is set to be canceled in a few years might only run up to 2014. Really sad. Edited May 2, 2013 by xboxtravis7992 Quote
Oky Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Sigh, indeed. Quite a shame about Futurama, whether it is for real this time or not. I haven't heard about P&F ending, but quite frankly I feel the show has gotten kinda stale, so I wouldn't be so sad to see it go. Either way, it seems like there will be nothing but mediocre cartoons on TV by next year which is just sad. I hope all the network execs will realize soon what a mistake they have made cutting off all these good shows. As for Animaniacs, I never really watched it when it was first on, so I tried getting into it when the HUB started rerunning it. I keep hearing praise for it, and while I can definitely acknowledge that it is quite well made, I just can't seem to enjoy it as much as other people do. I think it's because I've never been a fan of Looney Toons style slapstick which makes up about %50 of the show. The only part of Animaniacs that I ever really liked were the songs and Pinky and the Brain. Quote
xboxtravis7992 Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 (edited) I can't remember where I heard rumors Phineas and Ferb would come to an end, however it is Disney's longest running animated show (on a network notorious for canceling shows young) and with a movie scheduled to come out in 2014, I would not be surprised if that movie serves as a "Grand Finale" for the series. I also understand that while I laugh like a maniac at Animaniac's slapstick; I see how not everybody would like that type of humor. I think part of the reason I enjoy it so much is the recognition it is a continuation of the classic Looney Tune's style. However Animaniac's slapstick was balanced out in many ways by the presence of the (slightly) more serious Pinky and the Brain. It is no wonder that pair of mice ended up getting their own show two years latter! And yes the songs are excellent on Animaniacs, great way to make a show educational and not boring. I can't help but to start singing to them, "United States, Canada, Mexico , Panama..." Also my love of Animaniacs and Phineas and Ferb makes me wonder who the greater "world conquest" character was, Brain or Doof? The world may never know. Edited May 1, 2013 by xboxtravis7992 Quote

Who says they WANT it to resemble the original show? I think this is attempting to fill the "silly superhero cartoon" niche that Batman: The Brave and the Bold left behind a couple years ago, and doing so with a franchise that already skewed towards silliness is a good strategy in my opinion. Really, I haven't seen the series yet (looking forward to it), but I can't help but find it ironic that a lot of the criticisms Teen Titans fans have of Teen Titans Go! are the same ones fans of the Teen Titans from their comic book days had of the original cartoon. A silly, unfamiliar, heavily-stylized visual design? Check. Loads of childish humor without the grim seriousness or continuity of the characters' previous portrayal? Check. Overall, I'm perhaps a bit more open to the new series' lighter tone because some of my favorite episodes of the original cartoon were sillier ones involving zany characters like Mumbo, Mad Mod, and Larry. But also, I'm generally open to new interpretations of characters, which are a staple of adaptations in general and superhero media in particular. There's nothing wrong with giving a new creator with a fresh batch of ideas a turn to play with characters someone else created. Edited May 2, 2013 by Aanchir Quote
Tanma Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Well if you want to gain the old fans of the show, it helps to bare a resemblence to the show. At all. Its fine to adapt and change material, I am a fan of the Ultimate Universe after all. The problem here is that this isn't a new universe, this is made after the old show. They have the same cast, same voice actors, its a continuation. And while I concede that Teen Titans was very silly and funny (like the time Cyborg got a virus) It also was serious and dark. Case in point, Haunted. And even in season 1 we had Red X and the Apprentice. I feel like it lowers the expectations of the show just to focus on one aspect of the ship, whether humor or darkness. It simplifies things, which to me at least is disrespectful to the characters. Brave and the Bold worked because it wasn't a sequel, if it was a sequal to Batman Animated Series it would have felt really out of place and awkward. Sure the show was still upset fans, but that happens no matter what. (trust me, I like Transformers. Fans there are crazy) It would have been much worse if they played Brave and the Bold like a sequel, because they would have been defacing and changing the old Batman, instead of creating a new one. Creating a new one makes it a new interpratation, but recycling an old show and twisting it isn't. Quote

It is no wonder that pair of mice ended up getting their own show two years latter! Don't get me wrong, I like watching a bit of slapstick every now and then. I still get a good chuckle out of Brain bopping Pinky on the head for example. I just don't like it when it is the main source of humor, like in the Buttons and Mindy segment. Also my love of Animaniacs and Phineas and Ferb makes me wonder who the greater "world conquest" character was, Brain or Doof? The world may never know. Well, I'd say that not only does Doof seem to be merely a copy of characters like Brain, but his plans are pretty pathetic compared to Brain's as well, so yeah, Brain wins. Besides, Doof doesn't even want to take over the world, just the Tri-state area, or at least wants to get laid. It's funny, when my father first saw an ad for it, he thought it was Mad mocking the Teen Titans. Which makes a lot more sense in my opinion. What I don't get is why didn't they have the guys who worked on the Teen Titans shorts do it. That animation still looked like the original show, and there was plenty of continuity. So why? Hehe, yeah, that's exactly what it seems like, minus the forced crossovers (Teen Titanic anyone? ). And yes, that does seem odd, especially since they excuse the existence of this show by saying that they made it due to the popularity of those shorts (which is an argument I don't buy). Who says they WANT it to resemble the original show? I think this is attempting to fill the "silly superhero cartoon" niche that Batman: The Brave and the Bold left behind a couple years ago, and doing so with a franchise that already skewed towards silliness is a good strategy in my opinion. I see where you're coming from, but I have to disagree with you here. I'd argue that Beware the Batman is more of a replacement to BTBATB than TTG is, simply based on the fact that it is a Batman show which is meant to keep Batman relevant for children and cash in on his popularity. And to me, there is no such thing as a "silly superhero cartoon niche" as there are actually too many silly superhero cartoons on TV currently. The only one that's kind of serious right now is TMNT, and even that one has a lot of anime-inspired humor. The problem with TTG, I think, is not that it is less serious than the previous interpretation, it's that it is not serious at all. I enjoyed the Mumbo, Mad Mod, and Larry episodes just as much as you did, but that's because those still had a serious aspect to them - they had stakes. While in the old show the lives of the Titans or even reality itself were on the line, the worst thing that can happen in Teen Titans Go! is that one of the characters might get slightly irritated, all just for comedic effect. I just don't feel that humor is what a superhero show should be all about. And it's not like the concept of this show is exactly a "fresh idea". As you said yourself, the original show already had elements of this type of humor in it, so all they did is take someone else's creation and take all the serious parts out of it. If they just wanted to make a show about super-powered teenagers living together without adult supervision, I think they should have just come up with their own characters. Well if you want to gain the old fans of the show, it helps to bare a resemblence to the show. At all. Its fine to adapt and change material, I am a fan of the Ultimate Universe after all. The problem here is that this isn't a new universe, this is made after the old show. They have the same cast, same voice actors, its a continuation. Well, to be fair, I don't think they ever actually said that this was supposed to be a direct sequel to the original show, but yes, it's clearly based on it, not the comics or anything else, so people are obviously going to make connections between them. It's like if they made a whole series out of the chibi Avatar shorts instead of the Legend of Korra. There's nothing wrong with the shorts as they are, but if they were the sequel to A:TLA, it would disappoint fans and ruin the image of the franchise. TTG just seems like a dumbed-down continuation of its predecessor. It's like what I said about slapstick earlier: silly humor is good in moderation, not all the time. That's why Ultimate Spider-Man still manages to keep me watching, because among all the joking around, it does still have its serious moments (as short-lived as they may be). Plus it has created a universe for itself, so it doesn't really ruin any established continuity from previous interpretations. That said, I did kinda like the Drivers Ed episode. It was pretty clever and felt like it could have been an episode in the old Teen Titans. The Trigon episode was just terrible though (no pun intended). Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Currently watching One Piece - Episode 38 (out of freakin' 595 and counting... ) I'm not even 10% of the way I know this will already be an EPIC series. This just reaffirms that Japanese animation is the best in the world (at least for me). I've watched other cartoons (Western) but nothing really compares to the story-telling, silly humor coupled with tear-jerking moments, visuals, etc. to animes like Death Note, DBZ, Yu-yu Hakusho, Slam Dunk, and now One Piece. And I haven't even started with other critically-acclaimed animes like Cowboy Bebop, Fullmetal Alchemist, Bleach, Naruto... On another note, I just finished Cowboy Bebop and it was spectacular. Sooooo Good! It deserves its status as a Classic piece of Anime history. Any suggestions for a good follow up to Cowboy Bebop? It looks like you're a fellow anime-lover Danny. I've heard great things about Cowboy Bebop but haven't watched it yet. That will probably be next in line after I catch up with 500+ more episodes of One Piece. It seems you have watched more anime than I have so I couldn't recommend much (and it seems you've already watched Death Note too, another classic), so after futuristic cowboys maybe you could try pirates in their ultra-long saga... Oky Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 Yeah, I'm not either. Never been a fan of those humanized fan arts, and this is nothing like what I would imagine the first MLP:FiM movie to be like. And seriously, this is going to be shown in theaters? If this movie was about the mane six going on an epic adventure, I could see how it would deserve to be shown on the big screen, but this seems more like a straight to DVD movie at best. I'm actually kinda hoping that this movie will flop so that they give up on this concept and don't make a whole series based on it. I might check this out when it makes its way onto the internet or the Hub or netflix, but I certainly wont pay to see it. Quote
