Rebuilding the BSB

Hey Guys and Gals

So back when i was a small child my family got me the Black sea barracuda for Christmas or a birthday..since the new release of the pirate lego i have been searching my room for all my old lego...but sadly it is all scattered in many different boxes in my room...what amazes me the most is out of all the lego i had as a child the Black Sea Barracuda still stands...well more like the hull and the deck..the rest of it...masts, sails, cabin, cannons and the part at the front of boat has sadly been lost in the mess that is my room...this breaks my heart...what even breaks it more is that it was re-released in 2002 AND I MISSED IT!!! AHHHHHHHH! (i only found that out TODAY!)..after looking on ebay and seeing the chances of me getting a new BSB are slime thanks to having no job and putting most of my money into a TV show pilot..i have come to the conclusion that i will REBUILD the black sea barracuda! so i'm going to be getting on of those brick buckets that you can get from lego..you know the ones where you get a tone of different colour bricks? and thanks to the digital age we live in i am sure i can find the instruction manual for the BSB somewhere.

so i'm just wondering if anyone else has tried to do the same? is it possible? i'm sure it is, after all anything is possible.

also i'm from Australia and what sucks is in the town i live in Target is the only place that sells pirate lego (lame!) so does any fellow Aussies know any place they sell the brick buckets?

If you want to buy the parts try this website. Bricklink Its a website where people sell individual parts. There are 83 seperate stores in Austrailia.

I'm afraid a basic brick bucket won't get you too far. The Black Seas Barracuda has a large number of specialty parts like the hull sections and masts etc. A basic bucket of bricks would not only have too little an amount of parts, but also not the right ones. I rebuilt my BSB, but mine was about 90-95% complete so I had a much easier job. Compared to most pirate ships, the BSB is a little bit easier to acquire parts for IMHO, as being the first, it has the fewest unique pieces. Masts themselves are pretty easy, but the spars will be the hardest---you'll need quite a few "towball" pieces and fairly uncommon fingered hinges. Plus the sails---you may seriously want to consider making your own replacement sails from patterns, rather than paying what it'd cost to acquire a set of original sails.

But honestly, the cost of acquiring minifigs, sails and cannons will be an issue---save them for last, rebuild the rest of the ship first.

And yes, buying a bucket of generic bricks will be almost worthless for a BSB repair due to what you need and what they usually have in them. Better to spend the money on bricklink and buy EXACTLY the parts you need. Best way to do it would be to sign up on bricklink, then go here: http://www.bricklink.com/wantedSet.asp?ite...p;itemNo=6285-1 This will add all the parts required to build a whole BSB into your want list. Then manually remove the parts you already have--see the illustrated list here: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=6285-1. Then go to this page, http://www.bricklink.com/wantedShop.asp which will show you which shops have the most parts you need, so you can buy from as few shops as possible (instead of buying 10 parts each from 50 different stores)

I almost forgot i started this topic anyway, i've been quite busy lately and haven't had much time to look at buying the parts i need from the sites you guys have told me to check out (big big BIG thank you )

anyway i thought to give you guys an idea of what my black sea's barracuda looks like some twenty years on..i wish i could say i was building some fantastic new ship but sadly no..

it shouldn't be too much of a big deal to re build it, i think the main trouble would be the masts from what i have read here as well as the sails, but i'm thinking of doing some custom sails and maybe improvising with the masts...i have a great idea for a brick film hence why i am re-building the barracuda cause lets face it brick breads bounty has no chance of standing up against the new imperial ship..the pirates need all the help they can get
