JCC, you're still spelling probably wrong... :sceptic::laugh:

I purposely spelled it wrong on that post to say it looked mispelled. If i said this: probably looked mispelled. It'd be even more confusion!

I was going to mention my two black swords... but I wouldn't want Sinner's mind to wander further.

 But only two? I would have expected more!

The difference being that the pitchfork's usefulness extends beyond mere bragging rights  .

Yes, I agree. Some rare parts...

...are just great to have, even though their use is questionable unless your name is Norro. I do think the black sword is special, but i'd never buy one specially. The pitchfork I did buy, and I hope that TLG start making the part again... epecially since they have farm sets now, both past and present. I'm not conviced they will though.

...also, I have the pitchfork, (I found what sets it's in) and I used to have 3 gray round shields with the stud in the middle,...

...until a tragic accident in the middle of the night.... :pir_bawling:

lego shield + foot = pain and eternal torment (the torment of destroying a rare iconic Lego......)

I also have a couple of gray round shield, 1 or 2 of them suffered the same fate :cry_sad:

Oh... and did I mention my two pitchforks?

So do I!

What I really want to know is why one of my short swords real dull and all the others are shiny.

The one on the right is the shiny the left is...dull.

Aren't the dull ones the ones made from a softer material? If so, they came out later than the shiny ones. The shiny ones are from the 80s, the dull ones from this century I think.

Armendariz, Bricklink lists two different versions:

The more common, dull looking version - http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=3847

And an early version, made of shiny ABS, http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=3847a, which appears in a lot less sets.

Obviously at some point, for whatever reason, they changed the plastic - maybe the hard ABS was too brittle for the very flat thin blade of the early versions?

The dull plastic sword is probably less common. The harder ABS swords appeared through the 80s and early 90s in the lion's share of classic castle sets. The softer version is a mid-90s change. For a complete list of which sets contained each sword look at peeron. As a person who owns far more early ABS swords than the softer ones, I can say with certainty that the old ones (including the original grey ones) are in no way brittle. In fact, they are quite durable.

I also only own a few of the dull, soft ones, and lots of the harder, shiny ones. Even though I played with them - and probably stepped on them - extensively when I was I child, they are all in good condition (if you ignore some bite marks here and there  ) and none of them is broken.

The aboriginal one(short sword) was never fabricated in chrome. I yield affliction of abundance as a AFOL and the chrome on the handle still comes off sometimes. I aswell accept the brand is in the top banner, it could be aphotic gray. Sinner(and I debris to use his new name) is probaly right.
