ProducePrincess Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 (edited) Alright I made a airship type moc that i want to display off the ground but the clear pieces i have are to small to hold its weight. It also has propellers on the bottom so i can't rest it on the ground. What i thought of is just making a technic display stand but my main concern with that is would it take away from the overall moc . So does anyone have any ideas on how i can display and take pictures of this moc off the ground? Thank you Edited August 10, 2009 by Black Rabbit Quote
The Who Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Have you tried hanging it from something with fishing line? Then, if you have Photoshop or something of the sort, you can take the line out of the background. Or just use clever lighting to hide the line. Quote
Mraz Skintas Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Some clear fishing line would work best. Place some hooks somewhere and tie the line around that, then tie it to the MOC where you see fit. Quote
Spyder Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Well it depends, you can either hang it with fishing line, or if you have Photoshop, you can make a green stand with Lego and edit out all the green in the picture later. Or you could even put it in front of a green screen and in Photoshop replace the background with another one. Quote
prateek Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 As said before, clear fishing line would be the easiest solution. It depends on the size of the MOC. Quote
ProducePrincess Posted August 11, 2009 Author Posted August 11, 2009 Well thanks for the ideas but theres one problem I don't have any clear fishing line and my photo editing program sucks. I came up with an easy brickbuilt soution witch doesn't look too bad. Thanks once again for the help Quote
ziljin Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Well if you make the background out of legos, you could cheat and have some connecting pieces from the wall to your MOC. Obviously, angles would be limited or you would need some nice pic taking skills to avoid having the support bars in the pic. Quote
Siegfried Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 How big is it? When I took this photo... ...I was holding it with my other hand! I have a new MOC that I want to take some space photos of this weekend and I'll be trying out the fishing line technique for the first time. Quote
ProducePrincess Posted August 11, 2009 Author Posted August 11, 2009 I would say it's the same length as your VTOL/plane not quite as wide though . Seigfried how did you take pictures of the whole model if you are holding it with your hands? The problem is with it is the front is pretty heavy. What i wonder about the fishing is wouldn't the model swing a bit making the image's a bit fuzzy? Quote
Siegfried Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Seigfried how did you take pictures of the whole model if you are holding it with your hands? I held just the tail! It was hard to aim with my left hand and hold with my right (I'm right handed), but not impossible. What i wonder about the fishing is wouldn't the model swing a bit making the image's a bit fuzzy? You have to wait until it stops swinging. Either that or a fast shutter. Quote
Endigo Vandane Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Do you have a velux window? Or maybe a glass top table? Or anything else transparant you can place it on? Then you could photograph it from beneath. I have never tried it myself, but I have seen examples wich looked pretty good. I would recommend a few testshots to check out any reflections, but it's worth a try. Quote
The Who Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Well thanks for the ideas but theres one problem I don't have any clear fishing line and my photo editing program sucks. That's two problems. ...I was holding it with my other hand! Somehow this is not suprising at all. It really sounds exactly like something you would do. Quote
ProducePrincess Posted August 11, 2009 Author Posted August 11, 2009 That's two problems. Don't make fun , it's not my fault i haven't used my brain for about two months now. Quote
Oky Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 You could also try resting it on clear, non-lego objects like glass cups. Quote
CP5670 Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 If the model isn't too heavy, the trans-clear X-Pod containers might be an option. They clip on to each other and you can make towers out of them. I was thinking of doing that here, but I wasn't sure if they would be strong enough and long-term stability was obviously important, so I instead settled with a somewhat ugly but reliable Technic-reinforced stand. Yeah i doubt x-pod containers would be strong enough to hold up that monster.I'm settling on a thin but kinda ugly technic stand too. What i'm doing though is kinda hiding the base of it and where it connects to the airship i have it joined to the bottom propeller to blend it in. I should have pictures up by 4:00 . Oky Wan Kenobi I guess i'll give your idea a try too. Edit- I posted the model so you can see it . I'm very happy with the way it turned out Edited August 11, 2009 by Black Rabbit Quote
