Forestmen Collection

The forestmen sets were pretty neat. I never had any of these but I esp. like 6079 of the Dark Forest collection. Here's a list of the sets:

Forestmen Sets (1988-1990) - Part of the Legoland Castle Series

1680/1877 Crusader's Cart (1990)

1974 Smuggler's Hayride (1989)

6042 Dungeon Hunters (1990) - included one forestman

6054 Forestmen's Hideout (1988)

6066 Camouflaged Outpost (1988)

6071 Forestmen's Crossing (1990)

6077 Forestmen's River Fortress (1989)

6103 Castle Mini Fgures (1988) - included two forestmen

Forestmen sets released in 1996 as part of the Dark Forest Collection:

6024 Bandit Ambush (1996)

6046 Hemlock Stronghold (1996)

6079 Dark Forest Fortress (1996)

I think this is all of them, but if I've missed any, feel free to add.

It appears the majority would disagree with you Suvie Duvie!  And what the feck does pwnage mean?  :D

You have brain washed them with you constant inane pirate babel and have confused the populace. They look to you with an odd respect and loathing they can't understand and as such participate in your endless pirate topics that lead to no ending but rather furthered begininnings. You have mastered some freakish thread reproduction similar to a computer virus and as a result many are now relient on the very medicine you give them to fight the virus you created. You obviously took what worked for McDonalds and the inquisition and have smashed them together to produce the abnormal pirate sub culture here on Eurobricks. Thus any and all arguements are made invalid to all those who are immune to such deception and mockery.

More to the point, pwnage is a deliberate misspelling of the word ownage that has been popularized by the 10-17 year old online video gaming culture. It in simple terms is a reference to something having the mastery over another something or being of greater value or importance. Slang that connects with the younger generation in terms they will understand due to contextual reference found in numerous gaming servers or forums.

Interesting choices.

For me, Black Falcon's Fortress is without equal. I only owned one of these when I was younger, so I was elated when LEGO saw fit to re-release it as a legend (I purchased 10 or so more). The original, and the re-release were absolute bargains to boot! 424 - 435 bricks for $35 - 40 dollars is simply incredible! Throw in twelve grey cornerpieces and you have every castle builder's dream set. I can understand that most pirate fans don't appreciate the value of a set like this (or even the forestmen sets), but for many castle fans this is the Holy Grail of LEGO sets.

6074 forever!

Later.

Hey BlueandWhite - I agree.

6074 is the best castle for the money Lego ever made. It's note the biggest, but if you look at cost and part count - basically to be fair you have to compare two of these vs one of the biggies. '

See my comments in the "best lego set ever" thread. I voted for a technic set, since I am a technic-head, but my choice for best system product ever was 6074

Very difficult to say since you've asked us to make a choice between different styles and historic representations. First, I won't exclude Vladek's Dark Fortress because it is indeed an excellent choice to vote for and it is the biggest of all 'em. Architectonically I voted for Dragon's Fortress because it's such a beautiful building...it features no a single <insert that tiresome argument> piece and it has plenty surprises as every Adventurers' set. Then we would have Eldorado since it is a classic one and it also features a beautiful design and story in its interiors. Finally, we got the Viking Fortress because of the story inside its gates and the amazing Fafnir dragon. Sorry for those who love Legoredo which I do not like because it is too north american : ). You shouldn't have included the Ninja one because it's just like the Harry Potter sets: a mega block wall standing only because it is lego : )

Johny Thunder, are you coming back for 2006?????????? *sing*

Interesting points, but I must agree most with SuvieD's comparison of Phes's pirate posts to a virus. This would also explain how every thread created in Castles & Pirates always ends with a final remark by Phes. I must admit that I often times get tired of the endless pirate babble, don't bother responding anymore, and give up. Sorry Phes, but you asked for it - maybe this is a debate strategy. In fact, I used to like pirates until taking one too many pirate surveys, or reading a review of set 1733. I call this pirate fanaticism! - but then again, we all have our favorite themes.

In terms of the Favorite Fortress, I would have included Vladek's Dark Fortress if more than 10 choices were allowed; although this fortress/castle does not compare to any on the list. Knight's Kingdom just doesn't cut the list compared to the other sets (although the Ninja Fortress may come close)- but it is very unique.

Regarding Fort Legoredo, I ought to shoot the dang gone varmint who said that right out'a town. Too North American- exactly. What do you expect, a European cowboy set. Fort European, come on. That's like saying I don't like castles because they're too European! A good set is a good set.

I did suggest that Pirates needed a seperate forum for this very reason but John Fett grumbled and said not to ask for one again... However, there is nothing stopping you from suggesting it if you think would help alleviate this pirate virus you refer to that. If all the pirate threads were in a different forum then they wouldn't be in your face all the time.

I'd suggest putting the Viking and Pirate threads in the same forum myself. Maybe create one of those surveys you hate so much and find out what everyone else thinks...

And what was wrong with the review of set 1733?

Look at that Dragon Fortress from Adventurers - tied for the lead. Go Johnny go!!! It is not <insert that tiresome argument>, it looks great, lots of fun traps and tricks, and a fun build.

Wow...Viking fortress is wining..Its a shame? Who are you all to vote for something like that..No detail not much of anything actually...Eldorado, Forestman, Black falcon are all much better choices..Not just in my opinion but in everyones..I mean come on take a look...Ohh well I still respect your choice but I think it mught just be because the people who voted for viking dont own, or have seen the others..Because they are quite superior in my opinion. Bahh...

I agree with you; many of the sets on this list are better than the Viking Fortress in my opinion. Maybe it's the overall Viking theme that people are fond of. I recently purchased the viking ship, and must admit that it's much better than I was expecting. It's a very nice set in both look and design. My recent luck with newer sets has not been good. Getting off topic, I recently purchased the new airplane (7893) thinking it was awesome after the pic review. Got it home and really regretted buying. I've felt the same way over some other recent sets. The viking ship; however, was a real surprise. I don't have the Viking fortress, but like the ship, maybe it's better than pictures.

i think this is my favorite poll i've seen on EB. i really like it because it causes you to look outside your set "favorite theme."

for example, fort legoredo seems to be my obvious choice, right ??? cause WW if my fav theme, well... fort legoredo isn't my favorite set from that theme. so, i have to look outside my theme, to see if there is possibly another choice i like better.

its kinda like, i didn't know the answer to this question, until it was asked... its more interesting in that way.

where as, most other polls, i know the answer to before the question is asked... like what is my fav theme ??? what is my fav set from that theme ??? fav minifig ??? and so forth... i already have thought about those questions before...

well, brickster... thanks for making me think outside my theme !!! it was a little brain challenge.

but all-in-all (out of the forts/fortresses) LEGOREDO still wins !!!

-------------------------------------------------

i have to say, this is the first thread that has inspired me to publish a poll here. maybe something like, "favorite largest set from system theme" and the choices would be one set from each theme. and that set would be the largest in their theme. maybe i would confined it to only the history/adventers themes, so that we could keep it in this forum.

or another idea for a poll...

of the themes represented in the history/adventures forum "which theme has the best minifigs" followed by another poll, "which theme has the best building/structures" and then a third poll, "which theme has the best transportation." and maybe i could included pirates, just to make the polls more interesting, especially for the transportation one.

i like the idea of thinking outside your "set favorit theme" (again, inspired by this poll) and finding that themes other than your favorite could hold your favorite somthing else... make sense ???
