steelharbingerofdeath Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 this is probbably a dumm question but how come some threads have fast reply as an option and others don't? i don't think it is thread lenght as luxorV thread in the minifig customisation forum had that option and it was 3 posts long at the time, while the new pics of 2008 sets in the tie army subforum has 60 pages and a fast reply option. an answer isn't vital to me but it would be nice to know. steel... Hinckley Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 It's a forum option and the option was set up differently in each forum. So it doesn't matter the length of the thread, it's the forum that the thread is posted in. Quote
iamded Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 So I guess it's only in the more 'busy' threads, no? ~Peace Quote

TheFrisian Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 *Gets bandage and some ice for Hinckley's forehead* Any reason as to why the option has been introduced only in certain forums? Quote
Hobbes Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 Any reason as to why the option has been introduced only in certain forums? It's not on purpose. The people who created those forums where just too lazy to check all the settings... Quote
iamded Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 (edited) Oh, sorry, I just realised how idiotic that sounded. I meant forums, like TIE Army, T&T, H&A etc. ~Peace Edited December 31, 2007 by iamded Quote

Starwars4J Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 *bangs head against wall again* *harder* Yes but he posted that before Hobbes answered. He wasn't asking again just now, he was clarifying what he meant, since he was misunderstood. Anyway since this was answered I'll close this to prevent more damage to Hinckley's head X-D Quote
prateek Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Why is the Fast Reply option only in the Action Theme Forum? Does it have to do with the fast-moving action aspect of the themes? Why aren't the option in other forums? Quote

Spyder Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Actually, the Pirates forum has this option too. Quote
Millacol88 Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 I wish those people weren't so lazy when they made the forums. I like this option, but I don't frequent any forums that use it. Quote

Actually I don't like the option. To pull that trick it pre-loads the editor, even if it's not used. I'm tempted to disable it forum wide... Quote
Millacol88 Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Is it really because you don't like me, Mr. Walrus Sinner Bug Slayer Siegfried Roy Big Meanie? Quote
Siegfried Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Is it really because you don't like me, Mr. Walrus Sinner Bug Slayer Siegfried Roy Big Meanie? Not at all, but I'm not a fan of wasted resources, and as an ever growing site we have to be careful to not do this. Going though the Pirate forum (which has the Fast Reply enabled) and tallying recent topics I see; Replies - Reads 34 - 1038 11 - 284 86 - 2071 17 - 565 12 - 243 12 - 327 0 - 84 31 - 1351 6 - 241 20 - 1081 Total Replies = 229 Total Reads = 7285 Which works out as 3% efficiency! ...but that's not all! It even pre-loads it for guests! Co-incidentally I'm actually looking into some posting related bugs at them moment and this could be a major source of the problems that I've been seeing. Quote
Rijkvv Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 I don't get it. If there are more reads compared to replies, the replies that are posted would contain less off-topic posts. Or am I wrong? Quote
Millacol88 Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 His point was that, the fast-reply editor always loads when you read the topic. Since about three percent of the people who read a thread reply to it, there's some wasted resources in loading the fast-reply box. It didn't have anything to do with off-topic posts. At least, I think. Quote

I think you may be on to something there. Quote
Zorro Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 I don't really see why we need this "Fast Reply" option turned on in the Pirates forum anyway, it screwed up some important first posts in important threads anyway ! Quote
Captain Zuloo Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 I never noticed it, but I don't think we really need it either. I have no problem with it being disabled in forums - in fact, I'd request that it's turned off in the Pirates forum if it means it will load faster. Quote
Rick Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 Use your Walrus powers! Seriously, I don't ever use fast reply and the stats (posts vs. reads) you posted don't require any further math as to whether it would be more efficient to disable fast reply across all fora. Quote
