Piranha Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 There is already an Octan Gas Station in 10184 Town Plan. I am thinking along the lines of something different The one in Town Plan is more classic styled A more modern one like the 07 one would be nicer Shame they don't sell it on US LSAH anymore Quote
5150 Lego Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 The fire copter is awful, I also thought it looks more like Playmobil. And the fire pick-up is not as good as its 2007 counterpart. The small pontoon plane is nice, the tanker too (yet there is only one truck brand in Lego city, trucks all look the same!) I like the fire helicopter. Think it fits quite nice with the coast guard chopper we got last year. I'm even digging the new front piece. I have to agree on the front of the Tanker truck. I really wish TLC would give us some different truck cab designs instead of the typical European cab overs we've been getting for the last 4 or 5 years now. Its definitely getting old. Honestly I'm a bit disappointed in Town/City this year. I mean, yet another rehash of the fire department and airport? Give us a bank or post office already! I'll wait for the farm stuff myself, though the Octan truck isn't bad even if I won't buy it. Mind you, the airport is better than the last one.Batbrick Away! And isn't that the point? To improve over the last one? While no set is perfect, I agree that this is an improvement over the last set. Soin that regaurd, i think TLC did a bang up job. I'd just like to point out that while everyone is saying that the tanker is awesome, it uses this and this piece for the whole tank . So what? If its using those pieces that aid in the aesthetic design then whats the problem? It captures the shape of the tanker rather well, so i don't see a problem. Quote

The best part about that set is the detailed carwash. For some reason I find it very fun to just run the car through it. I think the classic part makes the service station from the Town Plan feel special. I wish TLC hadn't discontinued the harbour set. That cargo ship pilot was ... Quote

I really like the truck design, but I can imagine you want to see some variety (although this year's orange truck - 7686 - has a 'long' nose). I agree on the pieces capturing the shape of the tank nicely, the only downside is the technic holes showing on both ends of the tank. I suppose the 4 x 4 could go with the helicopter to make a forest fire fighting set (instead of being part of a separate set with a boat trailer). Furthermore, on the pics linked below I don't see a coupling mechanism for a trailer. http://www.flickr.com/photos/28476480@N04/...012187/sizes/o/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/28476480@N04/...993301/sizes/l/ Quote

Furthermore, on the pics linked below I don't see a coupling mechanism for a trailer. I agree with your conclusion here. I'd definitely buy the helicopter for that 4 x 4. It looks much better than the "4 x 4" in 7924 Off-Road Rescue, even if that set did help to bring me out of my dark ages. I also think I'm buying about five of those Octan trucks. I'm infatuated with Octan based things and that tanker perfectly captures the soul of the old tanker from back in 1992. Quote
mikey Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 I'd just like to point out that while everyone is saying that the tanker is awesome, it uses this and this piece for the whole tank . For me using those pieces for the tank is not a problem. The 2007 Cement Mixer is constructed in the same way with two large and unusable pieces, but I really like the Model, and have no plans to ever take it apart. I am willing to embrace a small amount of juniorization in specific circumstances, although really it is a personal opinion. Although I do think that these type of pieces would do an equally good job, and be much more usefull for people to MOC with. what does everyone else think about the pickup? Yes this does look a chunky and quite realistic model, much better than any other recent Lego 4 x 4 Design. This is deffinetly one of the Fire Sets that I will be buying. Quote
Legoist Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Thank you very much for this pic and the link, Black Rabbit! To the Fire Truck (With Boat): Regrettably the boat can't been seen on the pic. But I really do not like the car to be six stuck wide - that would really not have been necessary - and the two axes on its front look reallly out of place! To the Fire Helicopter: I totally agree with you, metalandi! Like the CG Helicopter this Fire Helicopter is much too huge and looks much too <insert that tiresome argument>. I hoped for a small helicopter similar to the awesome one in the Helicopter Transport set from this year. To the Octan Tank Truck: For my layout it's much too big - but I think that kids will surely love it since it's desgined well and even includes car doors. To the Big Airport: I really like this Airport set! Especially the buildings look really realistic and very well designed and the interior is great, too! I even like that TLG put the tower extra and not on top of the main building. And it's great to see that we'll be getting a new female torso. I hope that this torso does not contain some sort of Airport sign - so you could use it as a civilian torso, too! The only two things I don't like are that the airplane is aagain that huge and that the upper floors in the airport have no railing. The exterior of the tower and the main building are that perfectly designed that imo these are the best Aiport buildings TLG has been producing until now! To the Seaplane: I'm really surprised that this is that a small and lovely set! I really like the classic style of the plane. And the anemometer with the Octan barrel is a nice addition. I'm not sure yet but perhaps I'll buy this set. It's a pity that they didn't display the Impulse sets, the Small Car and the Repair Vehicle there, too. Hopefully we'll be getting pics of these sets soon, too. Btw: Did you notice that the Octan Tank Truck includes green car doors?! This means a great possibility to get some cars with green doors - perhaps a taxi in the TRU Exclusive in summer (like it was seen in the drawings of the City Square and the Public Transportation Center)?! Klaus-Dieter What... I practically wanted to make each and every comment of these myself! I think we'll get the sea airplane (I hope it's as cheap as the mail airplane) and maybe the tank truck, but the latter is really too long, it would have been better if its trailer was as long as the garbage truck. Probably also means it'll be a 40e set Quote
phoinix Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 i guess im the only one who hates what he sees.. its just that the past 3 years were very good compared to this and i think lego found a formula and its just sticking to it with no new ideas like farm last year was a great idea and so was the last police station... the airport looks SO palymobil to me. Very supposably it isn't, giorgio. The red truck is supposably the truck from the Fire Truck With Boat set. The Repair Vehicle will imo supposably belong to the garage line. What... I practically wanted to make each and every comment of these myself! I think we'll get the sea airplane (I hope it's as cheap as the mail airplane) and maybe the tank truck, but the latter is really too long, it would have been better if its trailer was as long as the garbage truck. Probably also means it'll be a 40e set Since the Seaplane comes with some more accessory than the Post Plane I think that it'll be 13 Euros (as much as this year's tow-truck), Legoist. Btw: I really do not understand why so many of you dislike the Big Airport set that much. Of course the airplane included in this set is again much too huge. And there are only very less minifigs and accessory and the interior could even be better (with railings on the first floor and a surveillance (that the passengers don't take weapons into the planes)). But at least the exterior of the main building, the exterior of the tower and the small vehicle look imo very realistic, in modern architectual design and awesome! paanjang16 Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 (edited) Looking at the new airport, I can't help to feel how backward Lego has become with their airport sets. The airport terminal is a big mess! There is no luggage conveyor, no security X-ray scanner and the airplane is <insert that tiresome argument>. Compared to this gem from the late 80s. Too bad it is incomplete. The red airplane reminds me of the old one But I am glad that there is a new Octan oil tanker; bout time my old Shell want have some company! Earendil Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 (edited) Hey! Have you seen the new LEGO-pigs yet? http://www.legoland.cz/images/lego/city7684_2010.jpg Edit by WhiteFang: Deeplink preliminary TLG images are not allowed in Eurobricks! Please do not do this. The Green Brick Giant Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 i guess im the only one who hates what he sees.. I guess you haven't read all the comments. The only thing I like on the tables are the lttle plane, the tanker, and the minifigures. Looking at the new airport, I can't help to feel how backward Lego has become with their airport sets. The airport terminal is a big mess! There is no luggage conveyor, no security X-ray scanner and the airplane is <insert that tiresome argument>. Edit: They somewhat took the new pictures off Flicker. I think the main problem is the lame door. If they made the door a one and made it look classically modern that would have allowed more room instead, and made a much bigger second floor. It still wouldn't look like an airport, but it would look better than what we got. Also LEGO seems set on making flat buildings now a days. They should have a section that comes out so it's not as blah. Odd they took the pictures down, I think I saved them so if they are down I will stick them back up. I like this old style tanker.... http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=1252-1 However the new ones works nice with the new style. The pig set is nice, but you can't post the picture because it has the watermark on it. Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Thank you very much for that much clearer picture, Earendir! I'm a bit disappointed about the enclosure itself: on the blurry picture it looked much better than now on the clear one - a bit very simple in design. Otherwise: The feeding throughs seem to be the covers of treasure boxes - funny idea but nevertheless it looks good! The piglets look lovely and the two minifigs included are fine, too. The tractor and the trailer are very well designed. Klaus-Dieter Quote

Klaus-Dieter I agree it's a bit too simple as a standalone set, but if put together with all the other Farm sets, it will be a perfect farm scene. we have cows, dog, cat, horse, rat, and now piglets! I'll be getting a couple my self to make double "Super-Bee" type trailers myself. Looking at the new airport, I can't help to feel how backward Lego has become with their airport sets. The airport terminal is a big mess! There is no luggage conveyor, no security X-ray scanner and the airplane is <insert that tiresome argument>. Compared to this gem from the late 80s. Too bad it is incomplete. NO way. The new airport terminal is by far better than the onbe pictured above. It has a better design, and much more detail. The only thing it lacks is bagage chute, but that doesn't ruin the rest of the design. I just thought it was hypocritical for everyone to say that they didn't like the helicopter being it had a big, <insert that tiresome argument> piece for the nose, and then run over and praise the tanker, which still has <insert that tiresome argument> pieces. Oh,ok. In that case i apoligise and agree with you. Good point. Quote
mikey Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 This Piglet set looks great, the sideways ladders as fences are perfect. The tractor is looking good, although I might need to modify mine to incorporate a back window (even though most have the back window open, the Lego render just looks a bit unfinished to me). Four Piglets and two MiniFigs is quite a nice amount. The piglets look great, (different in style to the Classic Horse, they will look nice next to the Lego Cows). I think this set is the best of the new line up by far. Quote

Lordofdragonss Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Now Lego give us Stable and this little horsey from Paradisa sets... I love new "pigset"- it's not so big so itwil cost less! Yay! Can I haz calfs now? Quote
Oswald the Rabbit Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 I don't see why everyone is calling the Pigs, 'piglets'. A piglet is a baby pig and by the look of them they are full grown. Quote

The Green Brick Giant Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 I love new "pigset"- it's not so big so itwil cost less! Yay! I'll bet you $10 the set is still $40-$50, all the Farm sets are HUGELY overprices and having 4 new pigs will not help the price. Quote
liquidcross Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 The Octan tanker looks great; I must add it to my fleet, since right now, all I have are municipal vehicles (fire engines, cop cars, trashmen, et cetera). Quote
RichardAM Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 From the photos so far the Octan tanker has been my favourite. The small seaplane is nice too. The rest is pretty unimaginative and horrible looking retreads imo. Quote
