Wout Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 The picture of the Reconstructiontruck/utility service truck (sometimes I don't know the good english word for it, so I just improvise) looks a bit like it, the main ideas have it. It has a cabine where the service guy can drive, a flat front (I thought), a cherrypicker/elektronic ladder which you can lift up and down to get to the lightbulb. It is around 10 cm long, I think, Colour I don't remember exactly, I thought it was not a very specific colour, Probably white/grey. It has no trailer, it was just one truck the green garbagecan can be found in 5611 public works and has the description on Bricklink "Part 2439, container, thrash can"but in that set it is dark bluish grey. @ Rapseflaps: I know this dealer good and that's why I could look in the catalog, But I don't know If he's happy when a horde of strange Afols comes to his shop and also want to look in the catalog. I have the honour to know this a bit earlier and I want to share the information, but I will not make it him problematic, also TLC don't want to let them see too everyone specially the pics. As you are from Alphen aan de Rijn, You could know the saying "iemand een vinger geven en ze willen de hele hand" So I'm afraid I will not tell you. Quote
Rapseflaps Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 I completely understand. Forget I asked. :) Quote
The Green Brick Giant Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 Thank you very much for this information, Wout! To the Small Car: Since TLG already included a male minifigure in the Sports Car it's really a pity that they don't include a female minifigure in the Small Car. There are too less female minifigs in general. You should know by now that women aren't allowed to drive in LEGOverse. Quote
Legoliner Pilot Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 You should know by now that women aren't allowed to drive in LEGOverse. What about the camper box art? On the back the woman is portrayed driving the camper and the man is biking. Quote
mikey Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 The picture of the Reconstructiontruck/utility service truck... This sounds like a great set, I can't wait to a picture. But I am thinking I will like this set already. I would prefer yellow or orange colour scheme, as that would fit with the construction theme, but I can understand white and grey, as many of these types of trucks have those colours. The travellor set will also be a must buy for me I think. You have given good information to make up for our lack of pictures for these last mystery sets Lego have in store for us. As you are from Alphen aan de Rijn, You could know the saying "iemand een vinger geven en ze willen de hele hand" So I'm afraid I will not tell you. That is a great saying, from what I understand of it. Much better than the english "give an inch and they take a mile"! Quote
Rick Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 Just to be sure: "finger" instead of inch and "hand" instead of mile. But those Dutch words aren't so different from their English equivalents, so you probably got that already. Looking forward to the repair/utility truck, sounds good, thanks again for the news Wout. Thanks for a full description Wout Sounds nice, truck/flatbed/cherry picker and street lamp. It is different I would say, not a highly desired set but still great. Much like the Tow Truck sets were different, not highly desired but still nice to get. I am enjoying this city diversity very much, a splash of farm, civilian, private companies and the official City Quote
The Green Brick Giant Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 What about the camper box art? On the back the woman is portrayed driving the camper and the man is biking. She is only keeping the seat warm. She is unlocking the camper. She is going to run the guy over so then the LEGO Police can come and stick her in jail with the rest of the women because they have to be hiding in jail. Quote
Legoliner Pilot Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 I found a picture of the City Runabout! It's the red car. Quote
Lordofdragonss Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Naaaah... Its just Racer set..... Quote
Rick Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Not sure if it's part of the racer set, because I seem to spot a steering wheel in there. In terms of color and elements used, it looks more like it belongs to a Creator (one of those brick buckets) set. But I wouldn't rule out it's City. Quote
Zzz Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Anyway, we need new and more and better torsos for the minifigs. Advent calendar this year has also some boring minifigs. It cannot be that City is getting such boring minifigs. The prelim pics for the fire copter showed a fireman with a helmet on. As if this is how these pilots would look like... We should at least get a new suit for the mechanics in the cherry picker truck. And some new civilian torsos. Female ones. Please! On the new sets: Fire Boat is boring (but I never was a fan of these - I prefered 4011 always) / Fire station is ok but not as good as last one / Farm set seems nice, sweet green tractor / Airport is not my cup o coffee, sorry (<insert that tiresome argument>, uninspired) / Tank Truck is boring, sorry / Fire helicopter looks a bit weird and clunky, the coast guard one looked better / Water Plane looks sweet but comes with land-based environment?? / . .. we will see.... Legoliner Pilot Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 (edited) The picture is named "3177. JPG", and there is a space for a minifig in it. And plus, creator vehicles are almost never minifig-scaled. The vehicle was probably put by that racers car by mistake. Edited September 27, 2009 by Legoliner Pilot Quote

Legoliner Pilot Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 (edited) The real deal breaker for me here is that we won't be getting any new buildings besides an airport and a Fire Station. I can imagine that this will really make AFOLs who's layout is made of sets and no MOCs will be ticked off. Really, I wish TLC went back to the days of Classic Town. There were so many buildings to choose from, and they often came with road plates. Sure, the vehicles were a little unrealistic, but the variety of buildings covered that. Then, in 1995, all that came to a crashing end. 1995 begun the reign of ugly buildings made out of huge columns and windows, with very unrealistic vehicles. Lego rebounded the Town and City line in 1999 with some good sets from Shell and some other sets. But once again, Town and City crashed and burned when in 2001 Jack Stone was introduced. Jack Stone was really a mess, with Playmobil like minifigures, huge parts, and ugly vehicles. Thankfully, after bad sales, Jack Stone was discontinued in 2002. However, Town and City was still filled with emergency themes, except for a few excellent sets such as Main Street, and the old airport (you know, the one that actually had a runway). To increase sales and interest, in 2003 TLC trashed the Town and City theme and introduced World City. It, however, was not much better. The train sets were truly amazing that year, but the rest were either airport or emergency subthemes, except for some minor exceptions. In 2005, World City was discontinued in favor of a new line, City. Again, for the first year [2005] it was full of emergency sets, save for a boat and an excellent advent calender. 2006 saw the release of the Hospital and Airport themes of City. New Radio Controlled Trains were released too. 2006 was a great year in my opinion, with the excellent airport [only quibble I had was the lackluster interior]. In 2007, Lego really hit the spot with the new Transport collection. Sadly, the whole transport collection was removed in 2008. :cry_sad: 2007 also had some great Modular houses/buildings, namely Cafe Corner and Market Street. 2008 was an average year, with the introduction of a new emergency subtheme, Coast Guard. Coast guard is a good emergency theme because it was the first theme to focus on water operations ever since World city. During this time, another Modular/House was introduced, Green Grocer, which was an AFOL favorite. 2009 has been the best year for City yet, with the new farm line and plenty of civilian sets. The Cobra Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Aren't trains supposed to come back in 2010? Shouldn't they have come back last year and then were postponed? Quote

I'd like to know what universe you are living in and if I'm living in the same one. 1996 had some great Town sets, then 1997 to 2002 is when town went to hell. 1998-1999 where my "dark years" not because I didn't like LEGO but because what they were making wasn't LEGO. Those years were the years that had the huge pieces and the sets were called City Center, that's when LEGO trashed Town. Town 1996 City Center trash 1999 And what do you mean LEGO Trashed Town and City? City didn't start until 2005, if anything World City mixed the new with the old style, it was to save Town from the huge mess of the last several years. If you don't like World City fine, but you need to get the facts straight on what years LEGO Town/City Center/World City/City fell and rose. Edited September 27, 2009 by The Green Brick Giant Quote

Your dates are a little off. 1997 was when mainstream City became crap. It was still very good up to 1996, with things like the 6335/6337 race lineup and the Launch Command theme from the previous year. Even during the juniorization years, there were still some good sets among the subthemes like Divers, Res-Q and Extreme Team. World City was limited to the usual emergency themes (police) but was far better than what had come before it. The WC police sets were very similar to classic 80s/90s town sets, much more so than the current City line. Quote

Thank you very much for this information, Wout! I really like to hear that it is smaller since in the size of the fire truck I mentioned above it would be much too big. And the street lamps aren't that tall that there is such a long ladder needed. I can't await to see some pics of the still missing sets. Klaus-Dieter Quote

I don't think that is a tiny turbos set, because the windshield is too big and if you zoom in you can see a place for a minifigure to sit. Also, you can see what appears to be a steering wheel. Maybe what you are describing is a different set? Edited September 28, 2009 by Legoliner Pilot Quote
