Well it's true that kids will always be more attracted to police or fire themes, but that said I'm sure Lego could still go and release at least one civilian set every year with considerable sales. I mean City Corner was the first step in the right direction. Every time I go to a store that sells Lego there's always either an empty void where City corner should be or there will only be one or two copys left. Hell if Lego wanted to they could combine police/fire with civilian sets if they wanted to.

It could be a fifty dollar (cad) set that would include a bank similar in size to the pizza shop of city corner; with a police car four minifigs, and some other misc, details. I'd bet it would sell like hotcakes.

Here's an idea, a row of three shops. All the same look, except the signage and interiors. One could have a hardware store, another would be a bakery and finally maybe, a newsagent or hair salon. Such a set would be loved by both boys & girls, as there would be something for everybody just like City Corner.

Oh yeah and here's one to run along side of 7642 garage, a vehicle dealership with a large showroom - 2 storey high and built on a 32x16 base plate. Some China-clone company has done such a thing and pardon me saying so it looked good (but I prefer the real brick not a copy of or worse MB).

Not quite the same, but it makes me think of my City Corner 2 MOC with Convenience store, LEGO Outlet, and Taxi station: link.

What I ment was city corner was one of the best uni-sex sets ever produced. It had a female chief running the pizza bar and a male mechanic running the bike repair shop, although girls like bikes and boys like cooking too. This is who a row of three shops would be aimed at - a hardware store - mostly boys some girls, a bakery - 50/50 and a hair salon - mostly girls some boys. I wish Lego would make more uni-sex sets, not all girls want Belville they want City just like the boys!

City Corner still has a relativity low ratio of female to male minifigures.

The best set this year for that is the Camper because it has the 1:1 ratio of Female and Male

(Same with 4WD and trailer)

This issue has been brought up in the past before, so LEGO is trying.

It'd also be nice if Lego designed a few more heads for them as well. I'm getting a bit sick of seeing the same face for every female minifig in City :sadnew: .

I'm just happy they are still not using this head :tongue:

Okay, now can someone explain why indepedent stores in Australia still getting stock of the 2007 fire station when we are less than 3 months away from the new one ? :sceptic:

Also they are still available at Lego S@H, odd !

Maybe because they want to sell them out before the new Firestation surfaces.

Plus, how many ordinary Lego buyers do know that there is a new one coming out?

Good point, The Cobra, we know but they dont, unless they ask questions in shops willing to pass said knowledge on.

But how would you feel as a parent buying the old fire station, only to see a new one take it's place in the matter of weeks, and your kids starts begging for the new one, 'Aw, mum, dad it's got a cool fire truck and a slide pole, sick !' :sceptic:

I stopped in to Toysrus this evening looking for new Star Wars action figures with no luck so then I decided to check out the Lego section which I was not expecting to find anything. I passed by an endcap and saw a fire station. I was about to walk right by assuming it was the old one but I noticed the white trim around the garages so I did a double take, grabbed it from the shelf and was shocked to realize it was the new one. Normally I see a review on here from someone in Europe way before it ever makes it to the US so I was very surprised. I also found the fire boat and a couple Atlantis sets. I actually lucked out because they had stocked the Fire station under the old 59.99 shelf tag although it was 79.99, I requested that they honer the 59.99 tag and they did! : )

OMG so it was Lego City and Atlantis as the Black Friday special releases at Toys-R-Us in the USA only, last year it was the entire Pirate range.

Hey, 'meat1980' could you do an early review of the fire station and only if of course it's allowed, we don't want to upset the powers-to-be (i.e. Lego). :classic:

Oh yeah by the way, to get it for the 59 bucks, way to go 'meat1980'.

You lucky BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP

I'm surprised to hear they already have January 2010 in stock, irrespective of whether they should be on the shelves already.

* Review! * Review! * Review! * :grin:

You're joking right? That face is hot

No the point was they changed it up so we have something new

Like when all the minifigures used to have the classic grin

A review of the 2010 fire station sounds good to me

I found a few new pics in whungs brickshelf folder of the 2009 sets ,most of them we've seen already but that fire vehicle looks new to me.

some 2009 pics

Well 'Black Rabbit' if you are taking about the truck with a boat on it's back ?

Then yes, I think most of us have seen it.

Must be a fire fighting/search & rescue unit.

Personally I don't think I'll be getting this.

I prefer the fire station, fire ship and fire copter/4x4 rescue squad.

the truck with the boat on the back is basicly the coast guard unimog but for the fire theme, it even uses the same large rhib peice

Not really, sir. The only similarity i can see is that it is also 8-wide, uses 2 4-wide windscreens and the same roof pieces. But the rest is totally different, first of all it got wheels, then they are smaller ones then the coast guard truck. also the overall design is different.

I bought the Coast Guard unimog and then sold it a few weeks later... it was beautiful, but just too damn big. Almost like a Model Team vehicle and not a City vehicle. The fire truck with boat is the same - not to scale with other city vehicles, and looks to be bigger than most buildings.

I also never buy these 8-wide sets. The only thing the big firetruck might be useful for to me is parts, but that heavily depends on the parts list and the price of course.

Why do Lego release these odd ball sets ?

Like this fire truck that carries the boat is one their biggest fire trucks they have ever done to minifig scale.

But why ? :sceptic:

Would not a 4x4 towing a boat/trailier combo be better than this monster of a whatever rescue thing ?
