Alywin Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 According to Brickset (which has not even highlighted this news on its front page), one of the Advent Calendar sets for 2010 is City theme, and the set number is 2824. No picture or further information is available at the moment. I don't know the original source of information either. Quote
Rick Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Not really a surprise, but nice to have confirmation nonetheless. Quote
Ezechielle Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Do you think TLC will make a separate motorisation as they did for the Emerald Night? Quote
BlueBard Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Not really a surprise, but nice to have confirmation nonetheless. I agree, especially because the City AC (even if this year I had to buy it on Switzerland... ) is becoming a Christmas classical element for me Quote
5150 Lego Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 (edited) Please show me a decent cockpit that uses all bricks that is more streamlined than the one piece nose. In real life airplanes look exactly like that, not blocky and bulky... Agreed. And anyways, its not like they can't be used for other mocs. Trains, helicopters, spaceships.... One just has to be creative. I think many fail to understand that these sets primary target are kids age 6-12 and not for adults. kids have, and always will be the first to be taken into concideration when designing these sets. These "large" planes while not popular with the AFOL community , have proven very succesfull with the target audience. Manily kids. And while the peices might be big, they have proven to offer vast usability. Again, one just has to be creative. Edited December 27, 2009 by 5150 Lego Quote

Exactly! I worry about the contents of the advent calender though. It will probably have too many rescue and airport/cargo workers. Quote
The Green Brick Giant Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 I think many fail to understand that these sets primary target are kids age 6-12 and not for adults. Which is my problem with the new system of trains, the cost so much children can't afford them! Quote
lightningtiger Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Yes, that's true and that's where parents and grandparents bring out their wallets/purses so kids get the big sets for either a birthday present or some thing left behind by the man who only visited all the children a few days ago (ho ho ho). MAH4546 Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 (edited) Which is my problem with the new system of trains, the cost so much children can't afford them! Since when? Children have parents. In the early 1990s the Metroliner cost $150 without a speed regulator, compared to $90 for the current passenger train. I remember buying Airport Shuttle new one year - and that cost $180. The cargo train in 1992 cost $120. The cargo train in 1998 cost $150, the same as today's cargo train. And you still had to buy a speed regulator to go with it! Today's trains are cheaper. Can children not afford Xbox, Wii and Playstations? Edited December 27, 2009 by MAH4546 Quote
Rapseflaps Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 I must have been was 10 or 11 at least before I had the means to purchase any Lego at all and by that time I was already reaching the end of the System line's target demographic. Children don't buy €150 train sets, nor do they buy a €90 police headquarters, a €60 farm, nor are they even likely to casually drop €30 on a gas station. Their parents, on the other hand... Quote

To Parents A video game system is a better bargain because more than one person can play it. Also the parents will buy their own games for it. A LEGO train is just a Lego train. Quote
wooootles Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 LEGO trains have always been expensive since forever. Actually, scratch that, LEGO in general has always been on the expensive side. Why is this suddenly a debate? Quote
lgorlando Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 I agree the trains are very expensive but I also recall this as the status quo since the 80's. But in the states, it seems especially this year, that parents see the value of a Lego set. The weekend before Christmas, all 3 of my local TRU's were bare bones on Lego City Sets (Many Star Wars were still on the shelf). The trick for getting expensive sets is to wait for the "Buy one Get one 50% off". This usually occurs at the end of Spring and in November for the U.S. I got the first Passenger Train and a Pirate ship for $150. If you can be patient then these types of sales will build your collection at a reasonable cost. Quote
prateek Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 That yellow truck looks really tempting. I can't wait to see better pics. Quote

LEGO is seen as a high-quality, long lasting gift by parents, which explains its recent sales surge in this economy, despite the price. All I can say is that my local Toys "R" Us was stock full of train sets in early December, and wiped out a few weeks later. Parents are buying them. Quote

Parents are buying them. LEGO is seen as a good option by parents that dont want their kids sitting in front of a screen all day. Plus, with LEGO, there are ways to get more that dont cost a fortune (even the cheapest video game is still going to cost a lot more than many small LEGO sets). Unlike video games or MP3 players, LEGO lasts. LEGO bought in the past and LEGO bought today is 100% compatible and the stuff bought next year or the year after will remain compatible. With a games console, it only lasts 3-5 years before another one appears. Even if you dont want to buy the kids the new one, good luck finding any decent games for the old one. Quote

Thrawnseg Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 It looks like the Lego.com cleanup has begun. A lot of the "sold out" and older items have been removed, making room for the new ones (in particular, the RC trains are gone except for the station). Quote
lightningtiger Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 You know I saw something weird last night at S@H in the trains area - 'New Items' on RC trains etc., but no new stuff ? Either it was a boo-boo by someone at Lego or things could be happening much faster than we expect ! Quote
Lordofdragonss Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Now aviable in France and Europe You have right! Even in Poland! Quote
dr_spock Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Which is my problem with the new system of trains, the cost so much children can't afford them! There's mom & dad or grandma & grandpa. Or children can also learn to save up for them. Speaking of which, I have to start saving up for the new train sets. Quote

It's neither. City Corner is still listed as new. Every LEGO product that is labeled "New" has been released in the last six to twelve months according to the catalogs. I'm glad I could get that Train Station for only thirty-three US dollars. I always wanted it, but forty-four dollars was just too much. Good thing I grabbed the Cement Mixer, Recycle Truck, both RC trains, Patrol Boat and Tower, Coast Guard Quad Bike, Cargo Plane, Coast Guard Helicopter with Raft, Truck with forklift, 7945 Fire Station, Cafe Corner, Town Plan, Cargo Plane, Air Mail, Coast Guard 4WD with Jet Scooter, Winter Toy Shop (Phew!), and the 2009 Advent Calender, as they are all on "Sorry, this item is not available in this country: United States" or "Sold Out" status.
