Legoist Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 Boer indeed means 'Farmer'. But it also means *burp* in Dutch, funnily enough. Now that would make an interesting impulse set. The pictures of it are pretty much final in my opinion. It's a minifig very similar to that included with the red Tractor set, but it comes with a dog and a pig, plus some small bricks. I think that due to the pig it will sell very very well even if the minifig itself is quite common. Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 (edited) To the Fan's Choice set: If the Truck Stop won the poll and accordingly TLG decided to release the Truck Stop as the Fan's Choice set I bet that they include a motel. Without motel - meaning only with a gas station and a kiosk included - this set would then (at least here in Europe) not attract many AFO's interests since we've got already multiples of gas stations and there'll be even released three different trucks in 2010. To the City House: Be aware that this set is called City House and not Familiy House. So we have imo to expect a house which fits in the center of a town and not a house which stands alone with a big garden all around it. So I bet that we'll get a house very similar in style to the pizzeria in 7641 - with a small shop (perhaps green grocer?) on the first floor, a living room on the second floor and perhaps even a sleeping room on the third floor. Plus very supposably a car (not Smart), a man, a woman and a kid. But this would imo be as great as a standing alone family house. Klaus-Dieter Edited January 4, 2010 by Klaus-Dieter Quote

And I didn't even notice the City house, but I'm hoping that you're right about it not being a suburban style house and more like an open-backed Market Street styled house Quote
lightningtiger Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 'Fans choice' like I have been saying all along - truck stop - I would say 4 fuel pumps, huge driveway with parking, a shop and a diner-style eatery. I would say these are the type of things we might be seeing in this 'Fans Choice'. Oh, yeah - City House - yes it could be just a house or we all know Lego and their set names, who knows it could be a motel. What we need is images to answer our questions and pose new ones ! Quote
Piranha Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 So there are 2 Trucks? LEGO one & TRU one? I hope we only get the LEGO one because as mentioned we have way too many Trucks already and a TRU based one would be really unnecessary and could have been used for a different set. I still haven't given up for the Fans Choice! It can't be the Truckstop! However I am liking the ideas thrown around like a gas station, food place and a Hotel I like your speculation Klaus Dieter about the City House It is called City House and is in the City theme for a reason. Like you said it will not be like the creator houses we have, which are cool but I would still prefer an actual City house like they are making. Quote
Rick Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 When I first saw the set name City House I immediately had a remake of 6374 in mind. Although it would be nice to see a urban house, I'm still guessing it will be a suburban style house. lightingtiger, do you just have confirmation from one of your sources that the TRU exclusive (8404) is going to be the truck stop? Do you already have any more info/details (keep bugging those sources )? Quote

Sorry, 'Rick' all I know is that it has Octan signage all over it and it's big, sadly I have only received this information second hand so to speak, but my sources also told me weeks before any pictures and info about the minifig packs and blue copter/limo combo. Quote
jonwil Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 If it has Octan signage, it sounds like the truck stop. I cant see Octan signage on a city square or a transport center (if it was a transport center it would probably have the <-o-> logo like on trains and in the recent City Corner set with the yellow bus and the bus stop) Being a TRU exclusive set (and a large set) its going to have a hefty "TRU premium" unfortunatly :( Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 (edited) Thank you very much for this information, lightningtiger! I'm disappointed that the Truck Stop did make it into the exclusive City set and not the City Square or at least the Public Transportation Center. Nevertheless the Truck Stop wouold have potential - if TLG includes a motel (which I really hope). So let's see. Which vehicles do you expect in this set? Another tank truck is imo absolutely excluded. So perhaps a wood transport (with or without small crane), a limonade truck or food truck and a small civilian car. As for the buildings I bet we'll get the gas station itself, a shop with small restaurant and hopefully even a motel (otherwise it would be a set only aimed to JFOLs). For minifigs I expect two Octan workers, two truck different drivers, a female motel owner and a traveler. Klaus-Dieter Edited January 5, 2010 by Klaus-Dieter Quote
lightningtiger Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Folks, something has just popped in to my mind, what if the truck stop also has a bus station in it as well. In the USA and Australia - truck stops / roadhouses are not just for truckies, they are for travellers on coach liners like Greyhound. Some places even sell the tickets and act as drop off/pick up point as well. On the motel front, there is only a few roadhouses in Oz that I know of that include rooms to sleep in, one that comes to mind is on the Dukes Highway at Keith S.Aust. - the B.P. which has everything that 'Klaus-Dieter' asked for including motel style accommodation. sens1992 Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Well, I really hope we are getting something else than a truck stop. At least, like you say lightningtiger, if it is a truck stop was to be, let's hope it is a bus station as well. In my opinion, there is no shortage of trucks in our LEGO world. Why add more? We are getting a new one (LEGO/TRU) in 2010 and I assume that if a truck stop was to be the fan choice, it would probably include another truck or towing... Don't get me wrong, I like all LEGO trucks but at this point, I really hope we are getting something else... Quote
Rapseflaps Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Actually, we're getting at least three trucks this year: the Octan tanker, the Lego truck, and the red semi that comes with the new cargo train. Quote
gondortoast Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 May I add that the set named 'traveller': 1. is £2.49p 2. has 24 pieces 3. is availble to buy now (well at the bluewater lego shop it is, they also stock the new pm sets, atlantis, and starwars). Quote
Legoist Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Actually, we're getting at least three trucks this year: the Octan tanker, the Lego truck, and the red semi that comes with the new cargo train. I think they will keep this in mind when designing the truck stop, and won't include 2 full trucks, but only 1 full truck and 1 front engine of a truck. Or alternatively, the second truck is a flatbed to save on pieces: wood/tube transport or car transport (without cars, although 1 small car might be included in the set anyway). I don't think it'll have a whole motel but just the gas station and snack bar. I know it's a TRU exclusive, but it probably won't cost beyond 100$, so let's just look at the amount of stuff in the 7642 Garage and be realistic that for such a price it just can't have two whole trucks, a service station, a kiosk, a car, a motel... lightningtiger Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 'I know Scout Master Lumpas !' A car carrier with truck stop.....Hmmm......2009 creator vehicle transport..Hmmm..2010 small car...Hmmm....flagship TRU set......we can only hope ! As far as I can remember they have not ever done a TRUE car carrier that thats cars on two levels in CITY, they have done 4 wide in the TOWN days but only single level loading though. 'LAZLO !!!!!' danim Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 (edited) then what about set 6335 Indy Transport here is a pic Edited January 5, 2010 by danim Quote
lightningtiger Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 True, I missed that one....But it's only good for tiny open racers, not sedans that drive around town. I wonder if we'll ever get a car dealship selling the small and sports cars, maybe even trucks and tractors too ! Ah, well that's what MOCing is for right ? Quote
Piranha Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Oh so the TRU Exclusive is the Truck Stop, damn , how could such a thing happen? This is a terrible upset, how could the 2 favorites,City Square and Transportation Center, lose to something we considered not even an option? I bet TLC didn't even take the poll into account and just picked whatever choice they felt like making. A major reason for not getting the Transportation one was because we have now seen about everything it comes with, the bus, trains and taxi. The city square had the redone City Corner Pizza shop. The toy shop you could say was made into the Winter Toy shop. Therefore I don't think the poll really mattered, as it contained many ideas for sets that exist. However this isn't that bad. Like I said earlier, the options for the set sounds good. Like a Cafe, or fast food type place, some trucks (like we didn't have enough already), Gas satiation (cool I missed the service station) and a Hotel. I don't like Motels, a small Hotel building would be better. 3 stories or so. Bottom floor check in and waiting area. Second and third floors, divided into 2 rooms on each floor. Some very good ideas here. I might consider buying it, if it contains all of the above Quote

This is a terrible upset, how could the 2 favorites,City Square and Transportation Center, lose to something we considered not even an option? I bet TLC didn't even take the poll into account and just picked whatever choice they felt like making. I fear you are right! Well, the only thing TLG might have thought is: There'll be a passenger train out in summer - so an elevated train the same year would concurate with it. The City House is maybe the civilian set we get this year - some sort of "reparation" that we don't get the City Square. The only thing I do really not understand is following: Why does TLG release a set mainly adressing JFOLs as an Exclusive?! A truck stop is mainly interesting for kids - so why not releasing the truck stop as a regular not that big set and the City House as a bigger exclusive set?! Now again about the contents of the Truck Stop: So you think we might get following? -truck for transporting wood -overland bus -small civilian car (but not a Smart) -2x2 gas pumps with roof above them -small shop with counter -fast food restaurant -6-8 minifigs A car transporter is imo totally excluded. Do only think about how big it would have to be, how many bricks it would include. Plus an empty car transporter doesn't look good and even doesn't make much sense. So even minimum two more cars are needed to set on the car transporter. That would mean that the price for the car transporter would already be minimum half of the final price. Again about a hotel/motel: If TLG doesn't include one, this set would surely loose a lot of popularity. A compromise would be to have only one guest room on the second floor of the small shop or the restaurant since this wouldn't require a whole seperate house. A truck stop is mainly interesting for kids ... <-This "A"FOL doesn't mind the truck stop at all. I missed the most recent Gas station, and I'm sure I can work the Truck Stop to make it more city-friendly. It may be an exclusive, but a TOYS' R US Exclusive! Ya' know, that magical place where parents buy their little LEGO fans their fire trucks and all that good stuff? Forgive me for being blunt here, but come on... It's kinda stupid of LEGO if they make a Toys'R Us Exclusive NOT targeted at "Toys'R Us kids" now doesn't it? And before people try to bring up "too expensive for kids" as a counter to this possibly-big TRU Exclusive: When I was in Chicago last week in one of the LEGO stores, kids, funded by their parents, routinely walk out with $90 police stations, bigger star wars things and trains with stupid grins on their faces. Based on this page, it'd be going for around US$160, which gives a bit of scope: epic. If that's true it's going to contain a lot more than a few pumps with a roof and some trucks. Thanks for the hint. Also it's hinting that the city house would be around $45 USD. Edited January 6, 2010 by wooootles Quote
Rick Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 AFOLs are probably the only people that are happy when a product turns out more expensive than initially thought Quote

I don't know exactly the exchange rate from South Africa currency to US$, but as I mentioned in my previous post, I noted the price information below: 7744 Police Station - R1277 (R=South Africa currency probably) 10197 Fire Brigade - R2061 8404 Fan Choice - R1180 So maybe that LEGO shop marks up the prices very much as compared to normal US MSRP and then a 7744 is being sold above US$160? I am not sure if we can just assume the prices there are comparable to the mainstream market and use direct currency exchange method to speculate on the prices of the new sets. With the above local price comparison (instead of currency translation), that was why I guessed the size of 8404 is probably equal to or a bit smaller than 7744 and it is likely not to be as large as a super big set with MSRP being US$150 in the US market. But of course I could be wrong. Edited January 6, 2010 by Alywin Quote
lightningtiger Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 If the fans choice is cheaper than the police station then I would say it would be a modern redesign of this....... ......maybe ? Quote
