Svelte Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Yes, stay on topic please. Let's keep this focussed on the City 2010 sets, not the behavioural habits of AFOLs, the ability (or lack thereof) of 6 year olds to click 'submit' on a poll choice, or LEGO's constant pandering to their number 1 consumer - retailers! (as they always say in their annual reports) lightningtiger's reports have proved accurate in the past. I do understand some of the disappointment (even if it's premature) since personally since I've been out of my dark ages (about 2003) I have collected a disproportionate amount of cars and trucks, so this big set will have to be something special to get me to fork over for it. I've already stopped buying sets like the Garage and the smaller standalone trucks - how many can one possibly fit in to a layout? But kids love vehicles so it makes sense for LEGO to keep churning them out. The $160 set could be the city square. As a large set i think it would make sense. Just my 2cents I don't know why this happens every time a price is mentioned on a non-US site but there is no direct currency conversion from non-US prices to US prices. To keep on repeating that it will be $US160 is just misinformed and misleading. Quote
wooootles Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 The city 'house' I wonder if it will be single or double storey, will have a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, etc., ? Maybe 1 or 2 of those things, but it probably won't be a complete interior. Not even the Green Grocer has a complete interior The $160 set could be the city square. As a large set i think it would make sense. Town Plan II? Quote
Piranha Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 No but TLG was compared to politicians which as much as accuses them of being dishonest, since thats the public percetion of politicians. Your own comment wasn't as bad bad was still inappropriate given we don't know the results of the poll, or even that TLG rather than TRU (who hosted the poll) made the decision.I wasn't actually thinking of you, and I don't have a problem with wild speculation even, unless it morph's into expectation. The monorail speculation was fair enough given the art work, but given we know that trains are considered slow sellers by TLG, and that they have in the past ruled out any new monorails, I personally wasn't going to get all excited by it untill I saw it advertised for sale. I'm sorry I've offended you, as I said I wasn't thinking of you in particular. I deliberately didn't list usernames because I'm not intending to be antagonistic. I also didn't accuse anyone of whining. At the risk of hitting a touchy subject since we are adults on a forum about childrens toys, what I considered childish is the inability to seperate wishful thinking and fact. I think it's great to speculate about a truck stop worth US$160 with a service station, a restaurant, a long range bus terminus, a double decker car carrier, and a three story hotel (not motel) and a waterslide (in order of what I perceive to be likely). However I don't expect anything at this stage, and in fact wonder if the price is likely to be anywhere near accurate. It's coming from a South African web site, I have no idea if their economy is volitile, but wouldn't be surprised if it were. It seems that if you look at the price comparisson with the modular firestation which is US$149, it could be argued that this will be a US$80 dollar set. If we accuse TLG of disregarding public opinion, without knowing if it was TLG's decision, what the results of the poll were, or if the set meets the results (hence it is important what the set looks like) we are getting carried away. Thanks for this explanation I now fully understand your thoughts and that they were not directed toward me. I hate making posts like I did because I don't like confrontations, esp over LEGO since all of us like it and enjoy and should get along Ok Svelte I have made a double post and added to off topic discussions, new sets I suppose? Svelte Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Can we please stop reciting this $US160 price like it's a fact! We went through the same thing with the 10199 Winter Toy Shop and the rumour that it would be at $US100 was just as ludicrous and unkillable then. If there were direct currency conversions between the non-NA market, then looking at Aus prices on S@H one would assume that the new 7208 Fire Station is actually $US128 or the 10197 Fire Brigade is $US275. Are they? No. That should tell you everything you need to know about the disparity of pricing between markets. It is much better to look at sets on the kiddiwinks site and estimate roughly what the prices would be by comparing them to sets we actually know the price of. Quote

jeffjcc Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Ahhh yes, I love reading all this speculation. I sure hope that truck stop is NOT the fan choice. It seems that the Toy Fair is slated for Valentine's weekend... Maybe we will see some pics of these new sets then!?!? Quote

I am tired of seeing speculation threads fill up with garbage (read: annoying) about how high the price was. Lego has different prices for different countries and it is useless to complain when a [inaccurate] currency exchange is presented in U.S. dollars. Remember when we thought the Small Car was USD $9.99 when we got jacked up Amazon prices and believed that they were official? Also, for some strange reason, the LEGO City airport line is posted on the product page- click here -but when you click "check price" a "sorry, this page cannot be found" message is given. The tanker is listed as "Sorry, this item is not available in this country: United States". Calm down people, this does NOT mean it is a European exclusive. You can view it by clicking on this sentence. By the way, the Pig Farm & Tractor (Which is the REAL name, please stop calling it Piglets Enclosure with tractor! ) is the same; it can be viewed by clicking here. The farmer's wife has a new torso! Rick Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Thanks for those links LLP! The new torso looks promising (and specifically female(?)). They given the pigs eyes. I didn't see those on the preliminary images. Quote
BlueBard Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 The farmer's wife has a new torso! I was sure, I said it! Quote
Piranha Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 I wonder why the Octan Tank Truck is not added yet? They will probably soon. I want to see that price As for the Pig Farm, it is in the theme sets, but not the Online shop? The farmers wife does have a new overall torso as mentioned Quote
Legoliner Pilot Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 As for the Pig Farm, it is in the theme sets, but not the Online shop? The farmers wife does have a new overall torso as mentioned The icon in the top right for the Pig Farm & Tractor is the City Bulldozer. It's the same for all of these sets.. Quote
Mission Commander Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Do we have any new news on the lego delivery truck? Thanks for the links LLP! Those pig eyes look out of place though. Quote
metalandi Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 I don't know if it has been said yet, but i just wanted to give a heads up that part of the 2010 instructions are now up on lego.com! Quote

I would bet you will in February when the Toy Fairs are. The interior of that Passenger Plane is severely disappointing. Quote
MetroiD Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 80+ pages of speculation and gibberish over the last 6 months - this is officially the hardest thread to follow on EB, at least to me... And, contrary to its aim, it is quite a bit misinformative too - but at least I managed to grasp that the TRU exclusive will actually be the Truck Stop. Which I can only be happy about - that means I will save myself 100+ EUR/USD this year since I, like Svelte here, also have more than enough trucks, cars and wheel-based vehicles in my collection. I'll drink to that! Quote
Darth Legolas Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 (edited) It seems that the "airline promo" will be the first non-Atlantis set to use the new bubble cockpit? I don't think it will be an airline promo though. None recognizable to me. It also looks more like a wide release set. It may be a private plane to go wit the airport. I also want to note the "tank truck" seems to be a system scaled version of the duplo truck, and if lego does as they always do, with their clever little passes, there may be a technic set of the tanker in the future. Note the tractor was made into a technic set. EDIT: Can't find a picture of the tank truck, but here's something worth noting: See? Note reverse colors of the 2010 tractor. Legoliner Pilot Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Also, I wouldn't hold your breath about the City Brickmaster book. According to this website, it won't be on shelves until June 2011! I have a bad feeling about 2011... It is that time of the century again... where TLG goes all out with Police. I beg you LEGO, no, NO! Please not another Police Pontoon Plane! Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 (edited) Thank you very much for this price information, The Cobra! 30 Euros for the 3221 Lego Truck is imo fine. And here another price from this site: 2824 City Advent Calendar: 20 Euros 10211 Grand Emporium: 155 Euros (doesn't interest me since it'll be CC styled) The city 'house' I wonder if it will be single or double storey, will have a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, etc., ? I hope so. But since the set name is very vague it can nearly be everything. A civilian house is nevertheless the most supposable since otherwise TLG would have named the set Bank or Post Office or whatever. I have a bad feeling about 2011... It is that time of the century again... where TLG goes all out with Police. I beg you LEGO, no, NO! Please not another Police Pontoon Plane! Surely there won't be again that a stupid police pontoon plane. But I fear and am really sure that the Police theme will come back with new sets in January 2011. Back on topic - we start with an airport, moving on to road transport, then on to rail transport, could we see the return of harbour gear again or another cargo plane, it would make sense as we are seeing mulitiple modes of transport here ? I really like this idea, 'lightningtiger'! Surely not this year - but in 2011 I can very well imagine some new harbor sets and a new cargo plane. Or, if they do make a new police station (which they will ) I hope it looks more like an actual police station rather than the towering skyscrapers they usually make police stations out to be. Klaus-Dieter New police for 2011'? I sure don't fear it. In fact, i welcome it. I think a new police station is a strong possibility, as are new harbor sets. I think a civilian Yacht would be pretty cool. As well as a truck with boat of some sort. Quote

Another set in the 90s I liked but never had. I bet that would rank highly with the AFOLs tastes in here! Quote
