Since we're already getting a Train Station, I don't know how much of a building there could be. Public transport interchanges tend to be quite big and complex but I doubt that will be LEGO's focus for this set. It could be like the Construction Site, with a medium-size building and a range of different vehicles to go with it. I wouldn't mind another bus, but as always, it depends on the final set
Too true Svelte. My layout couldn't really accommodate a Transport Interchange, unless it was on the smaller size. If it includes a train, then for me, it and it's track would end up on eBay. I would keep everything else though!!

Who said kids do generally prefer trucks?

Just ask Hot Wheels, Matchbox and Tonka if kids like trucks ?

Now for those not living in the land of Oz, $159.95 AUD might equate to less than $100 USD and even less in the UK, it depends on what Lego and TRU agree too.

I just wonder if this 'public transport' would be a new bus station with a taxi rank, that would fit the price bracket, a monorail requires risers, track and two platforms plus the train too and with PF, no ........it's going to be road based.

If you all remember I posted a big building with Octan on it and I was told it look a bit like a servo......well what's not to stop Lego putting a diesel pump to fuel buses and a cafe to feed the passing human cargo !

If TLG decided to release this option I'm 100 percent sure it'll be an elevated train (but not monorail), Rapseflaps.

Do only think about how angry we AFOLs would get if we don't get an elevated train as a Public Transportation Center set.

And a bus was already released last year and a taxi will be released this year - so the PTC would have to include an elevated train.

Thank you very much for this information, peterab! :classic:

Nevertheless I fear that this information is wrong. :sceptic:

I's without any doubts that an elevated train would sell the most of these three options.

But the simple reason for this my high doubts is that we already will get a passenger train this year which looks very similar to an elevated train. So TLG would concure within its own products (since trains are always very expensive and so many of us would have to decide whether to buy the passenger train or the elevated train).

It's really not nice of TLG to not let us know which option they'll now release. I mean: The Mon Cal Cruiser (which is a fan choice set, too and from a licensed theme - namely Star Wars) was shown at NY TF last year, too. :cry_sad:

Klaus-Dieter

While I have no way of knowing first hand if my info is correct, it has been confirmed now by lightningtiger. On the other hand your reasoning for doubting it makes no sense to me. You believe if we get a Public Transport set it will be an elevated train, but by your own admission that's unlikely because we know other train sets will be released this year. To me that would suggest that the belief in the elevated train is mistaken. That would lead me to the conclusion that we'll get something like a bus terminus and taxi rank, maybe with a couple of vehicles.

As far as the anger of AFOL's I don't believe reasonable AFOL's will be angry, I'll be happy if we get any new civilian set. Secondly, the poll was run by ToysRUs, arguably aimed at kids, so I dont think AFOL opinions will be very important in the choice anyway.

The only way I can see the elevated train as being a reasonable option is if the set is purely the elevated station, with bus stop and taxi rank, but no train. Since it appears the US wont get the trains till after Europe, then if this is the case it makes sense that the fans choice set will be delayed till the new trains are released in the US. Since the US is a very price sensitive market, and trains are seen as expensive, the trains may be being delayed in the hope the economy picks up in the mean time. That would also explain why the toy fair announcement didn't happen. It would also tie in nicely with the relatively small station in the trains release. All speculation but at least it doesn't seem contradictory to what others are reporting.

I don't think it's nice to blame TLG when in all probability it may be TRU has control over the announcement and not TLG. Also just because not knowing may not be nice, whether that's due to the actions of others or our own expectaions is a reasonable question.

I imagine that's the normal LEGO price with an extra TRU $10 on top, which would price it the same as the City Construction Site or Airport (as Night City Dream says). The Garage was $AUD140 too, so it will be interesting to see what they can squeeze in public transport wise for that price range/ piece count.

Since we're already getting a Train Station, I don't know how much of a building there could be. Yeah, I think you've taken my 'expensive' too strongly, what I mean't by it was AU$159 would easily put it on par with the garage as far as size of set. As the garage was the bigest of that wave of sets, it's fair to call it a flagship set, so it's probably also fair to call the Public Transportation a flagship, if it's a similar size.

What makes this hard is that outside of TRU Sydney HQ - no one in the whole world is saying or will say what the heck it is ?

I still feel if it's 'public transport' it will be road based not rail, be nice to still get a roadhouse but with a Greyhound coachliner out the front of it.

The price ending in 95cents or also odd, even the staff at the TRU I spoke to said it was odd - their prices end normally in 98 or 99 cents - almost never 95cents.

We need either Lego or TRU to put us out of our missery !

Now THAT sounds awesome. *crosses fingers*

I'm in the minority who hasn't got Cafe Corner yet (I know! :hmpf: ) so this would be a chance to get the bus, along with a monorail! :sweet:

Sorry, 'FilmGirl27' I very much doubt at under 160AUD (under 80 GBP) you'll get a monorail.

Can anyone else try TRU in their country and see what's going on - remember Clutch Powers - we build off each other !

Well at the moment we are really guessing, a taxi is comming in the new train station in the mid-year release for city - but like I said we need more information from either TRU or Lego.

We'll have to play the waiting game I'm affraid - I'll try this week to pry some more information from one of my sources.

Anyway I'm a conformist! everyone ! :sweet:

So do you think that 8404 will be some sort of mixture of all three voting options?

Like e. g.:

-bus, taxi and taxi/bus station (perhaps with a small office) (=> Public Transportation Center)

-small gas station to pump up the bus (=> Truck Stop)

-cafe and a small park (=> City Square)

Here is another confirmation that 8404 will be the Public Transportation Center:

I telephoned S@H today and asked what 8404 will be. Actually I didn't expect a real answer - only "I haven't got any information until now" or "I am not allowed to give you information on this set.

But the friendly woman at the phone told me that this set is indeed titled "Public Transport".

It shall include a bus and a train and ... but that she can't exactly say from the picture. So I bet that she only had the picture of the poll option in front of her and not an actual set pic (since a bus and a train are imo totally unrealisitic).

And she said that it shall come out soon. (The only question is what you understand under soon: one day, one week, one month, several months or half a year?!)

With now having two confirmations from two different people and states I think we can be very sure that we'll get the Public Transportation Center option.

What do you think it'll include? I mean: The rumor of 160 Australian Dollars is a bit bigger than last year's garage. And that's of course a lot of money but does even mean that the set will be much smaller than e. g. 10184.

Very interesting! It could well be a bus, a train and a mixed-mode rail/bus station, but then with 2 other train sets coming out this year it seems like overkill. Maybe the train will actually be a tram? That would be awesome! In any case, this set looks like a great follow-up to City Corner!

Now this changes everything, a bus and a train in one pack.........I think it's not a train but a ............tram......or light rail as it is sometimes called !

It's the only thing that would fit the price bracket - there are trams in Europe, Australia and even street cars in the U.S.A. !

Such a tram would not need to be PF, it could get pushed along just like the bus and would be considered more like public transport than a regular train (especially since we are getting a whole new train in August anyway) !

You're welcome, Rick. :classic:

I totally agree with you in this point, lightningtiger!

I remember that a longer time ago someone stated that if this option will win there won't be any PFs included.

Like already mentioned I bet that she had not a real set picture in front of her but only the picture of the poll, lightningtiger.

A bus and a tram in one set would of course be awesome. But even think about that there have to be some trackside structures (bus/tram station), too. And only the vehicles with a small station?! No, imo there at least has to be a small snackbar or something similar to that included to make it a really awesome set (which could even attact those people which might not be that keen on a tram). And there have to be tracks, accessory and minifigs. So that all for 160 AUSD?! I hope so but I highly doubt it.

I personally would prefer an elevated train instead of a tram. I mean: Of course a tram would look brilliant, too, but the simple problem is the place where to put it: The street plates are that small anyway that two trucks can drive next to the other barely. So where should you put the tram?! And then even think about that you would have to heighten all your streets in otder to that all your cars drive on the same level. And then you even have to put your houses on a platform (otherwise the sidewalks and streets would be one stud heigher than the entrances). And what about curves?!

As awesome looking a tram would be I'm very sure it would bring more problems than gladness.

Like already mentioned before, I personally think that the "Public Transport" will be more a mixture between the City Square option and the Public Transportation Center option - meanly a bigger City Corner.

Ah, but a tram and bus can share the same stop/platform and it needs only to be a little more fancy than 7641 bus stop.

I guess it's not what any of us were really thinking, I went for truck stop while others begged for a monorail........ah well I surpose we'll just have to wait until it's made offical by both Lego and TRU to finally get the whole truth !

I agree with you that a tram could turn out complicated to implement, but there are simpler ways. I could envision a separate right-of-way for a tram or LRT that would be slightly elevated (just 1 brick) to accommodate the depth of the rails. This is not unusual in real-life modern tram settings. It could even be done with the existing rail parts. Being off-street it wouldn't restrict road traffic. Of course I would love purpose-made street plates including tram tracks, but I'm just dreaming!

I don't think they release a Tram without any track. I guess for an elevated train based on the monorail standard. Then you have both street level and skylevel. It seem logic since LEGO going back to their roots lately. But who knows! We have to wait and see.

Exactly my thoughts, Ferdik!

The only reason why I fear that this won't take place is the price point - 160 AUSD for an elevated train with tracks, pillars, two stations, a bus, bus station and minifigs?! Even if it comes without PFs (which is for sure) I bet the price would be higher.

Thanks Klaus-Dieter for this update - most interesting news. Here's hoping for something nice. It seems likely it will at least an above average set, given the concept, but maybe it'll be a real gem!

K-D: With "Could you email me the picture" I meant what you supposed to said to the kind woman at Lego. The poll picture is old, perhaps she got a more updated. :oh:

About the price. It could be very small station and a bus. Threre is not much parts in the stations in the Airport Shuttle 6399. But I'm no good in Legoprices. I will stop guess now and wait.

I don't think it'll be the old monorail. I remember Lego reps in the past saying that there probably won't ever be new monorail sets because: a) they lost the track molds in a fire, and b) the company that made the motors went out of business.

Now, that's not to say that TLC couldn't decide to recreate the molds and to find another vendor to supply the motors. However, the impression I got was that that was pretty unlikely.

My pet theory is that it'll be an elevated train using the 4-wide track that was introduced in the Temple of Doom set.

Great news K-D! Thanks for that! :sweet:

I'm really curious and pretty excited to see what we are going to get.

My main concern and what makes me happy more is that TLG has slowly but steadily started releasing more city-life oriented sets and that's a thing to celebrate in my opinion.

This new set sounds just great and just by looking at the TRU drawing my imagination goes wild. Vivid, busy, colourful!

Just like the old days!
