lightningtiger Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 But ther's no room for tram tracks in Lego streets. And if the use Doom tracks wouldn't it ending be to similar to the new trains, especially the red one already looking like a big Tram? I hope for an elevated train! A monorail..But I'm only hoping and guessing as usuaul. Ah, but tram tracks can run on the side of roads - they don't always run down the middle - I live in a city with a tramways and a new line is being installed right now (but that actually does run down the middle of the road because the road is wide enough). Our oldest working tram line is the City to Glenelg line which actually when it leaves the city spends most of the run only crossing roads and running through parks etc.,. Oh, yeah it did terminate at a city square at both ends too ! I'm a conformist! ! Quote
Rick Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 I think those expecting a monorail system with elevated track are caught in the speculative frenzy and probably need to take a calming breath. This whole thread is out of control again, like at the time the 'truck stop' was announced as being the TRU Exclusive. While I believe the confirmations about 8404 being a public transportation center this time, I just think you guys are making too much of a fuss about it and, as Svelte pointed out, there's only so much you can expect in a retail set. I'm just going to wait for the first grainy pictures. Quote
Ferdik Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 (edited) Ah, but tram tracks can run on the side of roads - they don't always run down the middle I know! First of all - I like trams. But in Lego citys they would end up being regular trains or suburbian trains since we don't have no wide streets (if we don't put two streets togheter and have a perfect middle area for Trams) but most people don't have that space. And I do believe elevated trains attract kids more. Remember, this is no exclusive set. GIVE US SOME PICTURES! Edited March 13, 2010 by Ferdik Quote

Pictures or at least a some details of what is in this set at least that would help us out. Isn't there anything else being released in 2010, any surprise releases etc., maybe we need to start talking about other upcomming sets for this year like the City House etc.,. I'm a conformist! everyone ! Quote
The Green Brick Giant Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 I fully expect to get EVERYTHING that LEGO showed in that drawing! That's the point of the set right?!?! $160 will get you a monorail, a train, a bus, a taxi, a station, and hell the buildings in the back! It will contain 15,000 pieces and LEGO will sell it for $150-$160! Really this thread is a joke. Stop reading into the pictures, they are just a basic idea of what we will get using current sets. That's why the city square was just a bunch of old sets, that's why the public transport has the correct bus, taxi, and even the old monorail train. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 I think it's fine to discuss hopes for a new set. Let's keep things fun and respectful to all. Quote
captainsamus Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 If Public Transport ends up being "Train Set! ...oh yeah, and a few city things" I will be dissapointed. Sure, it's great news for train fans...but I have no interest in train stuff. I would have much preferred the Truck Stop or even better, City Center/Square (with different buildings than what was with Town Plan). Quote
dr_spock Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 It is fun to speculate. I'm guessing it might be a bus station. Anybody making any bets? Quote
BatonMedved Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 (edited) Oh yeahhh, thumbs up for the tram! Edited March 14, 2010 by BatonMedved Quote
lightningtiger Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 Well that answered that question ! You know sonwthing is troubling me, mid-year we have our public transport, plus 4 rail products and a pretty house - oh yeah two trucks, but is that it ? To me it would be an anti-climax if there wasn't some other sets to come out of the woodwork eh ? There were two less sets in 2009 as compared with '08 and on Brickset there is another minus two again for this year ! Hope this isn't a new trend for the city theme. Anyway, back to playing the waiting game.........I'm a conformist! everyone ! Quote
Scorpio Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 Is this a MOC, or...? :cry_happy: I believe it is a MOC created by ACCURATEin You can see his city thread at Extremely random photos from Lego City!, From modified Fire Brigades to AT-STs! Quote
Piranha Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Yes that is a MOC, the real giveaway is the track. I was talking to someone, who spoke to a LEGO rep while back (At a Toyfair event or something along those lines) , and they asked about the possibility of a Monorail and the reply was that if a new Monorail was to be released it would not be compatible with the old ones. Meaning it would be a completely new track type. They didn't say if they were making a Monorail, just if they ever did it would be new. Also they destroyed the Molds for the old track if I recall. I don't know anything about price of molds, but if they decide to invest in new molds now is the the right time since they doing a whole lot a money right now. Quote
jonwil Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 To me, if TLG was to produce a new kind of "elevated train" (or a tram for that matter) they would be best off using the Indiana Jones Temple 6-wide train track and producing 4-wide vehicles to sit on top of that track. It is the cheapest option and new shapes could easily be added to the track lineup if required. There would not be the option to motorize these new sets but it wouldn't be needed (if you want motorized, buy the new passenger train or freight train) As for those who say that its disappointing the lack of City sets, note the large number we have gotten already this year. Total city sets known about so far in 2010: Advent Calendar Small Car Seaplane Repair Truck Tanker Truck Passenger Plane Airport LEGO truck Helicopter and Limo Fire Helicopter Fire Boat Fire Station Fire Off-Road Truck and Boat Farmer impulse Traveler impulse Pig Farm and Tractor TRU Delivery Truck Level Crossing Train Station Passenger Train Cargo Train Family House City Public Transport That's 20+ sets for the year in the City theme. Matt Dawson Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 That's quite a good list. And only a third or so has been released yet... Quote
FinalFeature Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Is the toys r us truck the Lego delivery truck we saw at the toyfair or is it a different lego truck? Quote
Cwetqo Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 It's yellow LEGO delivery truck, that's sure. Quote
ACCURATEin Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 I keep trying to think of what comes to mind in regards to the term 'public transport'. The only two things I can think of is a bus and a lightrail/monorail. Also, i wonder if there will be another cargo ship in the future. ?! Maybe a MAERSK blue or something of that nature. hmm. Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 (edited) I'm not sure why you'd want a flagship set like that to be released as some mid-point TRU exclusive anyway. I'm sure LEGO is aware of AFOLs hunger for a flagship City set with elevated track and so on - just like they wanted a huge Imperial ship or civilian-based Castle set - so if we ever see it, I would prefer it was a S@H Exclusive where they could really go to town (so to speak) on it design-wise. TheBrickster's recent Spiderman review reminded me of what an elevated train in a regular release could be - one compartment and 2 bits of track! I must admit that you're making a good point, Svelte. If we take the 160 AUSD (about 100-110 Euros) as the real price of this set the danger is that either the design of the elevated train would be very <insert that tiresome argument>, with spratanic stations and a minimas number of minifigs and accessory or/and that the elevated train will come without motor - which means that 1. you can not let it drive with the contens incuded in this set which would make AFOLs but mainly JFOLs angry, that 2. you have to pay an abnormal price for all that PF stuff to be aible to let it drive (about 130 Euros!!!) and that 3. you surely have to destroy some part of the elevated train or take out some interior to assemble the PF motor and battery box. So very supposably it would be even much better to get a new elevated train or monorail as a S@H Exclusive for about 150-250 Euros - but with many minifigs much interior, detailed design, decent stations and a motor included that you can let it drive. Btw: Like already mentioned I can well imagine that - looking at the rumored price - it'll be a big bus station with office, bus, taxi, a cafe and a park. But that's of course only guessing. lightningtiger Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 I agree with 'Klaus-Dieter' on this point......it could be a bus station, Lego's last bus station was around 1979 if I remember right so it's way over due. Since this was a poll based in the USA, a very common sight in many US towns would be the bus station - even in Sponge Bob Square Pants ! I'm a conformist! everyone ! Quote

If it is a Bus Station, I will snap it up in a second! As long as it has a bus or taxi (or both) I'm happy. What I don't want is a tram. A monorail would be awesome, but now after thinking about it, where on Earth would I set it up? I'm tight for space, and that's only going to get worse thanks to all these new sets. Quote
Ferdik Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Does anyone know when pics arrive? Do we have to wait to an upcoming toy fair and when is the next one? Quote
