Xenophilius Studz Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Although the city calender lacks minifigs, as I would enjoy three more to make it more complete, this one is pretty cool. It doesn't have any police officers or firemen. Its centered around a family and is full of toys you can add to Winter Toy Shop. These recent calenders have been way more Christmas-y than previous years, which I enjoy very much. Keep it up, LEGO! Quote
Oky Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Hm, this calendar seems like a good way to get some useful City figs, plus a sausage and baguette. It's good to see a City calendar without any construction, police, or fire men for once. I think it's all part of TLG focusing more on civilians this year. I'm liking all the micro-scale "toy" versions of Lego sets, and that showering Santa is just so darn hilariously random! The Kingdoms one has a higher priority for me too, but if I see this on clearance, I'll probably pick one up. Quote
BlueBard Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Nice concept, I'm just disappointed by the number of minifigs and the lack of any new parts. Compared to the Castle calendar, which is a must-get for me, this one has nothing much to offer... I totatally agree with you. Now I see it properly I'm really disappointed with this year's AC... Sadly, there are no many MFs (even if the two "parents" have new and interesting parts ) and no many new parts or nice elements. Too much gigantic toys and not many City elements in my opinion... Quote
lightningtiger Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 I'm now of the same opinion as 'BlueBard' - after seeing the Kingdom's AC the city AC is not as good, though the toy's are cute, nothing overly special in it as compared to Kingdom's. Anyway, I'm a conformist! everyone ! Quote
Svelte Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 That creepy snowman with his spindly arms will haunt my nightmares. Not to mention he needs some face-Viagra for that limp carrot. I have to say, I like this a whole lot better than last year's mediocre effort. At least the City figs have the newer torsos rather than being worker drones. And the Santa is classic! I would rather have less good minifigs than more boring ones. The range of mini-models is oddly self-promoting, but it does go very well with the new City Truck 3222 and its LEGO boxes and of course make great additions to the Winter Toy Shop After a few years of 'meh' Advent Calendars I actually look forward to this one. The Kingdoms one still kicks its megablocks, however Quote
Delta 38 Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Lego City 2010 Advent Calendar 2428 High Res pics!Warning pics are 2500+ Picture 1 Picture 2 For the Knights Kingdom Calendar please go here! Enjoy :classic: Interesting. Not quite as good as the Castle one. Some nice parts, though. Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 (edited) that showering Santa is just so darn hilariously random! Yeah, I'd love for him to have a body print though! Then I could have my dream of an army of fat tourists invading an otherwise sightly beach! Not to mention he needs some face-Viagra for that limp carrot. LOL! I thought the same thing! The Kingdoms one still kicks its megablocks, however Agreed! I really don't build that much town stuff though, so my opinion's a bit biassed. ~Insectoid Aristocrat Edited May 15, 2010 by Dannylonglegs Quote
brickzone Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 That creepy snowman with his spindly arms will haunt my nightmares. Not to mention he needs some face-Viagra for that limp carrot. That's no snowman, it's a Dalek in disguise (or some other Doctor Who alien). Quote
Izzy Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 I think this looks like a very exciting Calendar to get your hands on with lots of cute little extras that you can't get in any cheap sets. I really like the small boy, freckles are too cute! Does anyone think that he will have his hood actually printed on the back of his torso? Quote
lightningtiger Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Naked Father Christmas !?!?!? :o It does appear he is wearing jocks ! I'm still puzzled why it's in there, what is it to do with Christmas ? On another topic, has anyone seen any detailed photos except for the box art for 8403 and of course 8404 ? I'm a conformist! everyone ! Quote
dr_spock Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Naked Father Christmas !?!?!? :o Looks like a brown Speedo to me. Odd to have a Christmas shower scene. Maybe Santa went down the chimney into a burning fire place and had to extinguish himself. Quote
Oky Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 (edited) That creepy snowman with his spindly arms will haunt my nightmares. Not to mention he needs some face-Viagra for that limp carrot. Yeah, he does look pretty awkward. Definitely one of the worst Lego snowmen I ever seen. Yeah, I'd love for him to have a body print though! Then I could have my dream of an army of fat tourists invading an otherwise sightly beach! LOL. Yeah, I've been waiting for a printed yellow bare torso for ages too, but since when have we ever gotten a new print in a City AC? Does anyone think that he will have his hood actually printed on the back of his torso? Of course he will! It's the same torso as in 3177 after all. Edited May 16, 2010 by Oky Wan Kenobi Quote
MrP Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Odd to have a Christmas shower scene. Maybe Santa went down the chimney into a burning fire place and had to extinguish himself. no he's a surfing santa from down under washing the salt off Quote
Lord Arjay Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Nice advent calender. I'm glad that they have gone down the family road, look no police in sight! A baguette, sausage and new prints, it really is amazing. Showering santa ? Yes please! Kingdoms one is still better though. Quote
alex54 Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Wow! Nice advent calendar! I need it just for the sausage and the baguette! And of course pour the minifgs too. Like it was said before, it's great to have a city calendar without policemen or firefighters, enought of them! Back on 8404, it's a great set! The bus looks really great with lime. I can imagine a lot of old people travelling around areas, enjoying their retirements! The streetseaper looks really amazing for what I can see! Just for it, I will buy the set! The infrastructures look modern, even if they are a little too small for me, but nothing that can't be modded, so! And the blue tram. Great! The fact that there are no tracks don't disturb me. Maybe because where I live, we've got a tram that has tires and don't need any tracks to run. It just has a middle track sometime and sometime nothing at all, just a standard road... I know it's strange... Quote
The Green Brick Giant Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 If the Castle set and the City one are the same cost who would want the City one? Three less minifigures, nothing exclusive, besides a naked Santa showering which is creepy. Quote
Piranha Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 (edited) Thanks for the new pics Is it just me or do I find this advent calender particularly weak, when compared to past ones? There are save for 1 or 2 interesting bits, the rest are pretty much common. Majority being toys. Also there are not as many figs included, as an excuse because this is a family scene. No civilian or casual city bits Definitely a step toward more holiday oriented models included. Pass on this one. EDIT: Agrees with Alex, back to 8404 discussion Edited May 17, 2010 by Macoco Quote
Mr. Elijah Timms Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 Well, couldn't you just lose the Santa head, and you've got yourself that Hot Tub Stormtrooper you've always wanted??? I feel a bit cheated-- this is my first real year in City, so this is the first Advent calendar I'll get my hands on. BUT I do like the idea of getting not only a family, but some nice furnishings for the Family House, so this works for me Quote
lightningtiger Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 Goodness, nothing for days......so I decided to have a closer look at 8403 family house and spied something......footpaths. Yes, the new 2x4 tiles in light bluey grey, we have never had sets with footpaths, is this a new idea to include in sets is it ? Plus I wonder if the solar panel is a sticker or printed tile ? Also there appears to be a childs tree fortess on top of the tree next to adult male cooking on the BBQ. I wonder now what we have in store for 2011, eh ? I'm a conformist! ! Quote

Zorbas Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 I hope those arent stickers i see in 7936. Judging from the larger picture link that whung provided (thanks for that whung! ), those are stickers unfortunately. Not that I was expecting something else... Quote
chillgoose Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 Went to my Local Toys R' Us yesterday and am happy to report that the following were new and in stock. 3221 Lego Truck 3180 Tanker Truck 3181 Passenger Plane 3182 Airport Just wanted to give a heads up to fellow Canadians. Was pleasently surprised. Sadly there were no collectable mini figures yet Quote
lightningtiger Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 Thanks for the pictures 'Whung' - looks AWESOME the little tractor ! I'm a conformist! ! Quote
