Oky Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 I thought the Lego Woody looked creepy. He's nothing compared to the Duplo rendition. Really?? I disagree. I think the Duplo figs look rather cute, especially the alien. Duplo Woody almost looks funny to me because it looks like he has a twinkie for a head. Quote
jacob_uno Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 I actually think Duplo Woody looks like Postman Pat! Quote
Oky Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 From cralegoboy's review: I just thought I would mention, regarding the box: I've seen this set now re-released in the UK with a 'Toy Story 3'-style thinner box and a white background. Actually some stores have both box styles. I wonder if any of the other first wave Toy Story sets have been redesigned in this fashion. Very interesting! I haven't seen that around here yet. I too wonder if they'll re-box the other sets too. Which design do you think will be the more valuable? Also, I just found out about this promo brick which was given out at the grand opening of the Lego store in the Aventura Mall, Miami, Florida. On bricklink it already sells from $35 upward! Quote

The only Toy Story set they had (the one with RC) had a white box, rather than the blue. Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Why in the world would TLC (or anyone for that matter) care about appearance counts? They're just small sets to promote the larger sets and earn Lego (and Disney) even more money, just like any promo sets. Oh, no special reason; it just seemed a little odd to me that Buzz might be in more of the sets than Woody, since Woody's the (slightly) more central character. But both are pretty well-represented, yet without completely dominating all the sets the way Batman, Harry Potter and especially Indiana Jones do most of the sets in those themes. Quote

The only Toy Story set they had (the one with RC) had a white box, rather than the blue. Strange. I checked all my local stores again yesterday, but no luck. Perhaps this is UK-exclusive thing? I have had that since June. Like you said to me on my flickr: Lucky you! Thanks for letting us know about its existence. I wonder if there is gonna be any 2011 TS sets, maybe a claw machine set? Sadly, Klaus Dieter said he didn't see any new TS sets in the catalogue he was granted look at, and there aren't a whole lot of possibilities for this theme anymore, so I wont get my hopes up. By the way, does anyone have instructions for the Buzz Lightyear CubeDude? Or perhaps a pic of it from the back so that I can reverse engineer it? Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Sadly, Klaus Dieter said he didn't see any new TS sets in the catalogue he was granted look at, and there aren't a whole lot of possibilities for this theme anymore, so I wont get my hopes up. I'm not terribly optimistic, either - it certainly could easily be one of those one-year licensed themes - but I wouldn't say there aren't a whole lot of possibilities with it. Heck, LEGO is all about possibilities, and there are certainly lots of scenes that haven't been represented. I think the two primary obstacles with this theme are a) the scale differences between the toys and their world, and the human world they inhabit, and b) the fact several of the toy characters come from real-world toys that would have to be licensed from their own rightsholders (Playskool, Mattel, etc.) on top of the licensing from Disney / Pixar for the overall theme (and LEGO would have to be willing to make toy versions of other toy companies' toys, which they might well have a sort of corporate cultural aversion to doing even if the licensing weren't an issue). Those are certainly significant issues, but I think there's still plenty of room for imaginative releases, and I think ultimately the theme will end not because there's nothing more that can be done with it, but because TLG thinks it's time to move on and decides to do, as it often does before it's really done everything it could possibly do with a theme. It's too bad. I'd really like to see this theme run a bit longer (even if my bank account wouldn't!). Quote
KimT Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 I don't frequent this forum much, but I've just stumbled upon these small animations and thought I'd share them with you guys. Now if these have already been flashed, then I am sorry http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gh9WlhbunJI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDEvqEvxCD4 There's a limitation to media files, so the other 3 can be found HERE Quote
Oky Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Thanks, KimT, those are pretty neat! Hadn't seen them before. By the way, could those who saw the white-boxed TS 1&2 sets take pics for us? Quote

I'll grab a couple of pics next time I see them for you. It's strange that some are still blue, in certain shops. Quote

It's too bad. I'd really like to see this theme run a bit longer (even if my bank account wouldn't!). I think you are definitely right. Key characters in the movies are from other toy lines. It's just unfortunate that looking at sets like the train, you really notice the absence of the Potato Heads, or even a Slinky. I doubt Mattel would have any interest in Lego Barbie and Ken (a modular Ken's dreamhouse with minifigs would have been hilarious) This will basically mean the main minifigs will constantly be recycled in all sets like we have seen, limiting their lifespan. The dirtied minfigs I thought were a good touch, but I don't think kids would have cared less about it. There are definitely options that can be explored with this line, but I do think it's time is unfortunately nearing an end, which is disappointing. Both my kids have fallen in love with Lego due to the Toy Story releases Quote
just2good Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 (edited) Hey guys, the Toy Story RC set with the white border on eBay.uk: LEGO 7590 I also found the army men set in white: 7595 And the Woody's Round-up set in white!: 7594 Now I'm going to try to buy the boxes off of Bricklink! Oky Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 (edited) I'm pretty sure those are used on the product pages at Lego.com. HERE Ooh, they have animations for the other classic sets too! But those aren't quite as good, especially the Army Men one. Could have been much more actiony. And the one for Buzz's Spaceship makes it look like Zurg and Buzz are having a picnic on the moon. Oh well. Anyway, I have uploaded the pics that I could find of the white box editions to my flickr: Edited August 23, 2010 by Oky Wan Kenobi Quote
Oky Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 I finally found the first white-box edition of an Toy Story Classic set, 7590 Woody and Buzz to the Rescue, at my local TRU! Hopefully they'll stock up on the white-box editions of the other old sets too. I'll make a review soon. Quote
Derek Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 A review of the box? Haha I was going to say that, but didn't have the balls to. Quote
lowbike1 Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 I'm wondering if when the DVD comes out if we'll see the woody and Buzz promo sets released over here (North America) any ideas? Quote
Oky Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 I doubt it. Promo sets are usually distributed at one time and place only, and I have never heard of any being tied to a DVD release. I found a white-box edition Build-A-Buzz at my local Target. It's the only re-boxed set I have seen around here aside from 7590. I'll be making a review of that too some day of course! And I just order an army jeep promo from bricklink yesterday, so look out for the premiere review of that set soon as well! Quote
Oky Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 (edited) OMG! Woody and Buzz alarm clocks! Right now they're only available for pre-order on the UK site Firebox (click the pics for links), but hopefully they'll be released here as well! Edited January 26, 2011 by Oky Wan Kenobi Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Great find Oky! These two are much better than the SW TCW ones (Anakin and Yoda). The Buzz clock looks great! Quote
Dunjohn Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 (edited) Hmm, I wasn't that impressed by the Star Wars ones, but that Buzz one looks rather nice. Edited January 26, 2011 by Dunjohn Quote
prateek Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 I want that Buzz one! These are great. I'd love more of these in the future. Quote
