Vezon Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Problem with it is that we need a black character that headlined an entire series. There hasn't been one, so Skrall is the closest we'll get. I always thought Nuparu headlined the Inika. I might think that because he was on the cover of Power Play, which was the first book with the Toa Inika (not counting the very end of Dark Destiny).
iLego94 Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Well, Omi - that was also a joke. I think you only like jokes you made up. Btw, watch this, it's how this forum deals with swears: f-word: megabluck. S- word: shit See? I'm not pushing your buttons, and may I quote you "I don't have to take lip from you, you're not an admin.". Let's just end this :)
The Dor Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Still find it stupid that they have 2 Glatorian in there instead of just 1. Figured they're better stars out there. Well it would make sense to have them there, considering they probably will end up being "stars" eventually lol Mantax was pretty important in 2007, too... I wouldn't mind a mini Mantax...~Bunda AND he would have a similar construction to the Skrall and Rahkshi lol hoooray?

I might think that because he was on the cover of Power Play, which was the first book with the Toa Inika (not counting the very end of Dark Destiny). I was thinking that a second ago, then I realized that Matoro stole the spotlight - twice (both as Inika and Mahri) Well, Omi - that was also a joke. I think you only like jokes you made up. You trolled me earlier with the pics thing, then you come out with this. If you were trying to joke, you didn't pull it off right. Besides, there is a difference between telling me off and just telling you to back off. I may not be an admin, but I can tell you to fuckin back off me. Anyways done. -Omi
Vezon Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 (edited) I was thinking that a second ago, then I realized that Matoro stole the spotlight - twice (both as Inika and Mahri) It's a bit ironic that a set with such a massive storyline role sold so poorly. I didn't stop seeing his Mahri form on store shelves until the Legends came out. AND he would have a similar construction to the Skrall and Rahkshi lol hoooray? At least we'd get a cool new head sculpt like with Vezok and the Rahkshi. Edited September 21, 2009 by Vezon
The Alchemyst Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Well Tahu and Taka are pretty much solid. ._. I do think something from the Metru line would have been nice. Dunno, a Visorak, a Hordika, or even a Vahki. Then we have the Inika-Mahri Line And then the Bara Magna line. I think a Barakki would have been nice. Takadox and his glowyness would have been sweet. A Chibi Makuta would have been adorable. Which leaves Red and Green for... Ackar and Matau Hordika? Or maybe Vakama Metru/Hordika and Gresh. ._. lol I do hope we see more of these as the years go on. It's an amazing way to get some recolors as well as new pieces. [-TA-]
Zarkan Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Honestly, I can't believe you guys are eating this crap up. Come on - these aren't legendary sets - they're Av-Matoran with a few new and modified molds slapped on to make them look just enough like famous Bionicle characters that kids will buy them despite the complete unoriginality and other flaws (seriously, the weapons are way oversided, Takanuva is white and silver, Vezok doesn't look anything like the original and can't hold his weapon right, almost all the weapons are silver, etc etc etc.). I honestly expected a totally different reaction from you guys - count me surprised, and rather disapointed. Needless to say, unless the canister sets are better (if there even are any this time around), Bionicle won't be getting any of my money next year. Long live Bara Magna 2009, crap you Bionicle Stars.

I didn't stop seeing his Mahri form on store shelves until the Legends came out. Actually, more Matoro sets were given to retailers than any other Mahri. He sold pretty much averagely.

And I mean like...18, 19 in one store, and 22 in the next. In my Kmart, we still have ALL of the Phantoka, Vultraz, Kalmah, Takadox, and Pridak. o_O Anyway, my thoughts on the stars: ... I dunno. I'll post a large and comprehensive review soon, but I'm too lazy right now. -Mesonak

The Alchemyst Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Lol "The 2010 Bionicle EB Schism" What fun. I mean, sure they're overpriced, lame old Av-toran builds; but they're reselling Chibi versions of characters we have fond memories of... [at least 3, I suppose], and they have oodles of recolors and new parts. And Tahu brings back the Hau, but this time with the much more useful Plus Rod AND includes a recolored version of said Mask. I mean seriously? That itself is worth praise. I'm pretty sure I'll only buy Tahu at such a high price, but with the useful recolors, new feet and those nifty armor pieces, 2010 is looking up. We're waiting for Canister pics with high expectation. [-TA-]
Wrinkledlion X Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 I'm definitely buying Tahu, even at full price, but I'll probably wait to buy Yelahk and any others on sale. I might buy Vezok if he looks cool (I've always liked the Piraka), and maybe Gresh 'cause he's kinda cute and chibi. (Skrall and Takanuva don't interest me particularly.)
Omicron Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Tahu definately has my money, same with the yellow rahkshi and I guess Takanuva. I mean, I do need a complete Avohkii collection. :P -Omi
Zarkan Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 You're disappointed that people like the sets?-Omi Yes, because they don't deserve to get this much praise. They're Av-Matoran with a few new parts, and up until now I was sure that everyone had gotten sick of that kind of set design. Aparrently not. We're waiting for Canister pics with high expectation. That's exactly the problem I pointed out. This is no more than a cheap marketing move by TLC to please both kids and the older fans. "Who cares about making an original but well designed and nostalgic Tahu - let's just throw in a recolored Hau with a plus rod and the 2001-ites will buy it anyway!" Seriously, you guys may going head over heels about these new sets, but I'm not going to be praising anything until I see a new small set design that doesn't incorporate a single Av-Matoran part. This is one of the times where I feel glad that I'm not so obsessed with the early years of bionicle like some people are, and thus won't be pleased by one or two old masks with plus-rod connections.
Wrinkledlion X Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 I'd rather buy something imperfect that makes me fondly remember my childhood than buy a great set that serves only to decorate my shelf.

You do realize that new parts is what Bionicle fans like right? But you shouldn't be disappointed in people's decisions on the sets. I never liked the sets in the past years save for the new mask molds, and I never got on people's back just cuz they liked the sets. Gotta respect people's decisions. And to each their own. And don't use the gimmick argument. Lego has been gimmicking us since day 1. As with every corportation. -Omi Edited September 21, 2009 by Omicron
ShaddowCroc Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 I personally LOVE the Avtoran design, and have since 2008. Not to mention some of these sets use the Av-Matoran pieces creatively and awesomely. And even the ones that don't use anything creatively look totally awesome. And sure, they are essentially marketing ploys by LEGO, but they're damn good ones. >:D

And even the ones that don't use anything creatively look totally awesome. And sure, they are essentially marketing ploys by LEGO, but they're damn good ones. >:D Definitely agreed here. Avtoran are actually my third favorite small set design. The stars actually pull it off well, the avtoran only had good masks and agori had a small amount of new pieces, but the stars actually look good. It's weird I hated these at first glance and now love them, especially Taka and the Rahkshi.

A set gets praise or it does not. They're cute, simple, easy to build for kids while giving older fans something to like.

jala12 Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 They're called impulse sets for a reason (and of old characters too!). Of course we'd "eat them up".
The Alchemyst Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Personally I'm no fan of the Av-toran design. The 90 degrees angles look wonky when standing, there's no articulation, and so forth. I didn't buy a single Av-toran because the only selling point of them was the masks. Winter 2009, as I recall, brought raving reviews here, even with the small sets, not only because of their exclusive masks, but exclusive recolors, rare pieces, new/exclusive pieces, and more. If 2009 on, right now, these Small sets are looking far better than the Agori IMO [matching them best to worst]. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Tahu Mata, as a set, sucks [relative to what we have now]. His design is poor with little articulation, the gears make for frustration-filled posing, and really, the only "useful and exclusive" parts he has are his mask, head and his sword... maybe his hand as well. And that can be said for pretty much all the original Toa. There seems to be a lot of held-dear nostalgia; not just for Bionicle, but for Lego and pretty much any old hobby. =/ There will be people who think the "originals" were always better, and that nothing can match that. [see those Classic Space Lego people]. I think I'll go dig up the 09 Topic. [-TA-]
Phantoka Kopaka Nuva Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 I've just noticed that chibi-Takanuva carries 2 staffs, not swords. Is it just me or is he going for a Turaga-style design?
The Dor Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 * Canon vs non-canon: I consider all 2010 BIONICLE sets canon - very much so. You all, as always, will decide for yourselves. shit that SUUUCKS. WHY BINKY WHY
