I've opened two canisters, taken the contents out, assemblied it, and put it back in the canisters again.

...and sent'em to the toy shop. With assembled sets inside.

Seriously, let's critique people who deserve it. Rob Liefeld?..

Actually, by saying he does, you are contradicting yourself. You agree with DV when he says Greg uses cliche after cliche, but if anything, Toa Ignika was a very unique character. Haven't come across an object making a body for itself in any other story, anyway. And now suddenly that's become cliche and cheap too? Tell you what, you guys are just complaining for the heck of it. And no, that's not really cool or anything. It's sad, if anything.

Besides, Toa Ignika does not suck. *hugs Toa Ignika*

the object acquires a body and has no mind of its own is very common in cartoons

Ignika has no character, is only a justification to sell more,

only because it is a powerful ultra object turns it into something great?

not realy...

totally agree xD

but there are blatant cases

're discussing history, Ignika is useless, needless, simple and blah blah blah ... is simply an element in the history of forced entry

Eh, what books have you been reading boy? He had a very interesting personality. And the entire point of the Kanohi Ignika is that it has a mind of its own. Have you even been following the storyline since 2007?

And no, he is not great for me because he's powerful. He's great for me because of the concept he embodies: learning what living means, and learning to live. A fascinating concept some people, like me, can connect to, or even see a bit of themselves in. The entire chapter where Ignika debates the creation of his body is deepness in physical form, and the personality the Toa Ignika has is naive and innocent. Combined with his extreme level of power, it made him an interesting, if not a bit dangerous character. It's like giving a toddler the remote control of a nuclear missile to play with. The child is innocent, the power it holds not so.

The confusion Ignika was feeling when the Nuva were tricked by Mutran, and how naively simple he reacted on it all made him a great character to follow, as every person with the slightiest bit of empathy would find themselves wondering how he was going to react next, if he would ever learn to understand complex emotions like lies and deceit.

Basically, Ignika was Bionicle's version of a child, and that alone makes him very unique in a universe full of grown-ups, and gave him an entirely different personality, way of thinking and acting than all the heroes we have see up to now. Make that villains as well.

Toa Ignika was Bionicle going into deep, thought-provoking territory: the meaning of life and what living means. Shame there are people like you who say this sucks and is cheap. Because that probably means we won't be seeing great concepts like this again, in favour of simpler, more boring stuff like lessons about unity which The Legend Reborn is full of.

No thanks, I take the meaning of life over "unity, duty and destiny" any day.

I think that GregF's writing skills are pretty good. I mean, he's writing for 7-9 year old kids (Don't know the age range specifically). Besides, no one is forcing anyone to read the story. :shrugs:

Anyways, I would like to point out this quote from GregF:

Hey, topic starter has a right to his opinion -- 2009 might just not be to his taste. Thankfully, it is to others. He always has the option of moving on to something else if the line no longer meets his entertainment needs, and probably should, especially if he has not yet figured out that this IS a children's toy. We are trying to get 7-9 year olds to buy sets, not inspire in-depth philosophical conversations among high school and college students.

Some people on here act like they are being forced to endure the horror that is a BIONICLE year/story/set range they don't like ... they're not. Don't like a story? Stop reading it. Don't like sets? Then I assume you aren't buying them. This is a toy line, not a gulag, you are allowed to move on if you aren't happy with it.

yep shiny thinks are great

I find interesting your comparison Ignika / Artificial Intelligence

had not really thinking, or had discussed it with anybody, to have that view. =)

(but I still find simple and forgettable xD)

Ignika gave no more elements to the plot than to be super powerful element in the hands of a child (another element trite)

your comparison does not hold beyond the fact of their instinctive desire to be like Matoro (that personality change radically in a week)

ending slaughter in Karda Nui, doing the work of the Toa Nuva

now I read you argument and believes that Ignika it is not an element so absurd after all, but was not developed and only stay in that ... something that could have been very interesting and very good but I end up as a side note, especially now with all this that the friendship of Mata Nui with Ackar and Click is the center of the story

Oh Front, this is so awesome, you are awesome! Can you say whether they stack as well?

This isn't completely subjective. Very little in life truly is.

I wish more people thought this.

Also, I know Greg isn't the best writer. I'm not gonna say he's the next Tolkien, but I'm not gonna bash him either. I enjoy the ideas behind the stories, even if the execution is a little wonky sometimes. I enjoy taking an afternoon to read a short book, written for (younger)kids - it's fun.

He didn't say what canisters. It could have been anything.

I agree. After all, I didn't say that being a subpar writer can't be fun or enjoyable (I read Star Wars novels for heaven's sake). I have lots of complaints with how the story has been handled for the last ~five years, but I'm still following it. And still enjoying the overall story.

I'm glad we have a fancy literary major here to critique books written for nine year olds.

Me too. One who's also a psychology and religion major, to boot! I don't enjoy 'throwing out credentials' to sound important anymore than the next person. But when it comes to literary conventions and how to determine who is a good writer, and how to gauge that, it felt an appropriate place to say that's what I studied four out of the last six years, and that is where my opinion comes from. Besides, I took some children's book writing courses too. :P

Besides, I'm also totally up for making fun of myself. :)

The entire point of the story is to help sell the sets.

The world runs on stories. The purpose of the story is to sell toys, but the story itself transcends that. Because there is no such thing as just a story. Transformer stories exist to sell toys, and that line enjoys an immense fanbase of avid (and scary) story buffs. Any story that inspires others to create for themselves is something worthy of study, in my opinion. And no matter how poorly written parts of the BIONICLE saga are, the story itself deserves the conversation it receives precisely because it is so often inspiring.

Ok, sorry, but it's because all this disscusion about Greg is annoying me. I won't do it again.

Also, any catalog pics?

The catalog pics will come when Tyranide gets the catalog from his source, as for the discussion, the problem is solved, that discussion has its own topic :)

iLego, believe me, when I got ANY information, I'll immediately write here at least something like "I've got info, wait a bit 'til I write it" or something. I just don't know when this glorious event's gonna happen, that's all(( We were supposed to have some progress today but ('cause I haven't got any phone calls) everything was cancelled.

Sooo... I guess with all my delays you're gonna get information from some other source - nobody can be as slow as I am))

Now, don't distract me from watching Witchblade...
