Bink wants us to think they're GBs, but I don't think they are. Why would the GBs stand in the middle of a Glatorian battlefield doing nothing except watching the warriors slaughtering each other?

I don't think it's that literal, considering the artistic look of it and very few combatants. I think the figures are meant to represent the GBs lurking in the background, but that's not what they actually look like or literally would be doing.

Plus, Bink enjoys teasing so it could've been a complete coincidence that the rocks resemble people.

Ok, now that I have seen the pic, I have three things to note.

1.) No rocks would all have notches in them naturally; could be cloaks.

2.) If they are GB/other beings, they are walking away. Did anyone else notice the way the cloaks flow? The left ones are moving to the left, the left half of the right side are heading to the right, and the right half of the right side are moving towards the horizon.

3.) The land is breaking apart, but why would it be doing that right when the Glatorian are fighting? If the protodermis was there since the planet's creation, wouldn't it have broken the land down already if it was going to? Either the land is newly placed, or it is being "told" to break apart.

Two words:

Artistic License.

I think it's likely that this battle is the last battle of the Core War (Tee one where the Red tribe took the EP from the White tribe, and then the planet shattered). So that means this is the part of the planet directly where the EP started leaking out and the White tribe began guarding. So it's to be expected that the EP was gradually leaking and ripping the planet apart at this point.

Good catch on the GBs walking away detail though. If these are meant to represent the GBs, it shows that they abandoned SM when they realized their failure to prevent the Shattering, probably out of shame, fear or so that they wouldn't be killed/trapped when it happened.

Yep, I knew Sahmad would be an awesome character once he got the spotlight. Otherwise, it's interesting to know that only the first chapter will be a flashback - I orginally thought that the entire serial would be set in the past. But, the direction Greg is taking the story in instead is probably for the better, as it looks like we'll be getting an explanation for how the plague happened.

Oh, and the Iron tribe armor color explanation was a bit bland, but I suppose it makes a lot more sense on a primative planet like Bara Magna then in the Matoran Universe. Only question is, what were their original colors? :look:

Since Toa of fire are red, Glatorians of the fire tribe are red...I´d assume they were originally metallic gray.

Wow, I like this serial. I also think it's the only (or maybe the second) BIONICLE work written in first-person, and it definitely benefits from that. It feels like an old timey ballad of someone's adventures.

I think the colour thing may have been thrown in to explain why Sahmed is orange, black and grey, while Tellerius is yellow orange, yellow and grey.

Mutran Chronicles :)

And yes, it's been a really interesting read. So much better than those last chapters of Reign of Shadows, where you don't even know what the heck's going on.

It was pretty good, but I really think Bionicle is losing it's wonder...

A plague of unknown origin, which makes ordinary beings lose the ability to dream and eventually drives them insane? I'm not saying it's especially wondrous, but this could be taken in any direction at this stage, and there are about as many "wondrous" directions it could go in as mundane ones.

Meanwhile, I was doing a little math earlier and found that not only has the piece count of "small sets" increased since the latest template was released in 2008, but the overall price per piece has also decreased. Of course, it's still a hefty sum compared to the price per piece in mid-size canister sets, and I have yet to compare the prices by weight rather than piece count, but it makes me feel a bit better about getting the Stars.

Where are the piece counts? Where are the prices? Are we talking about HF now?

....wait....

Aww, you made me hope we had the prices out for HF....

Nah, sorry, I was talking about the Stars. I should have been clearer about that.

I love that serial! :D Finally a villain whose motivations make sense... Sahmad is definitely up there with some of the best Bionicle bad guys we've had, along with Krika and Mavrah. This is going to be a good read!

The explanation for their armor color is excellent -- it's natural and fits, and is better than "a mutant leprechaun fired a super zamor at them and teleported them into a dimension where they are yellow."

I also love the description of the plague. It reminds me of the Comet Ball incident, with a very cool and original twist (losing dreams). I'm guessing the Great Beings are behind this, which would be slightly redundant, but would still make for a good adventure mystery story -- to use bonesiii' terminology.

I'm suprised they didn't wrap up the 2009 serials first though. Or is ROS supposed to run through 2010 too? I would hope so, there's no time to... unconvolutize it in one chapter.

Sahmad's tale is far greater than i expected. losing dreams is an interesting idea and also better than i expected. I may even go so far as to say that this is some of Greg's finest work. it's also one of the first stories told in first person, after toa nuva blog but Gali doesn't really have a personality where as Sahmad's tale actually has character to it.

That was an interesting and great start to a new serial. The dream-plague sound interesting, although I assume that the disease causes loss of dreams, madness and death each as separate symptoms. Dream loss has never been a problem in BIONICLE before, and would've been mentioned if it could actually drive you insane/dead.

The only thing I didn't like too much was the end of the serial where Sahmad wishes his enemies would dream of him and wake up in terror. Given his motivations, he'd probably prefer they suffered what his tribe suffered, which was no dreams.
