Lastly, I like how the most desirable minifigs (for me, at least) can be found in the least expensive sets (it looks like the dark blue manta ray figure comes in a set by itself... with a rock).

I know! It's brilliant!:laugh: I actually like that manta-man comes with a rock, and you can never have enough of those green plant Bionicle spine things.

The colour scheme I'm less fond of. Some things, like the big spiny thing in the Limited Edition set, remind me of the Monster Dino set with its similar mess of lime green, red, and black.

I'm still not sold 100% on this theme overall (or the bald figs in the jumbo helmets) but it does look a step up from Power Miners.

I think it's supposed to be a monstrous, sea turtle thing. The spines make up it's shell, it has four limbs and a tail. It does have some crazy colours going on for some reason... like the rest of the theme!

It looks like this theme has LOTS of new pieces to offer, a definite plus. The only bad thing is some sets are extremely bland, I'll probably buy 3 or 4, just for the minifigs. 8061 and 8079 are very well designed, and look like they were made to go hand in hand. I'll be buying both of those for sure.

One minor problem is the 8073 impulse, it's disgusting. You are most certainly not getting your money worth. Look at other impulse sets, both SP3 ones you get either a awesome K-9 with a firing missile, or a space-scooter, both have a good amount of pieces. Same thing with other impulse sets, you have rafts, food stands, armor racks, cannons. What the hell do you get with this one? Coral.

My main problem is a lack of sea creature minifigs. We have the Sharkman, Mantaray, and the Octopus King(such an awesome minifig), all of which are amazing, but 3 isn't much variety. Luckily some of the SP3 guys can easily be converted.

Also, anybody else notice the head of the female diver is strikingly similar to the queen in Drawbridge Defense? I could be wrong, and probably am.

Nice find pedro! :classic:

Here are my thoughts (and my ratings based on the pictures):

8056 (black and orange crab) - that brick-built crab looks great! If this is the $6 USD set for the theme, I'll get one. :classic: (4 out of 5)

8057 (small red speeder) - if this is the $10 USD set, it looks like it could use some more accessories or mini-models... :sceptic: (3 out of 5)

8059 (human underwater car) - what? You don't need wheels underwater ()! This set looks a bit like a Power Miners, too... (3 out of 5)

8060 (medium-sized red ship with two propellers) - looks a bit skeletal. Oh well, I never really liked the look of the red ships in the first place. :sceptic: (2 out of 5)

8061 (ruins) - looks great! The red octopus minifigure is very cool, and that white brick-built squid-thing is cool. The ruins look well-built, too! (5 out of 5)

8072 & 8073 (impulse sets) - the minifigures look great! If they're $3.50 USD each, I'll definitely be getting one of each. However, the rock seems to be just an addition to make the underwater creature set worth more. You're basically paying for the minifigure... (4 out of 5)

8075 (other medium-sized ship set) - looks better than the other red ship. I like the inclusion of the small mining vehicle, but still, there is a extremely low chance of me getting this. (3 out of 5)

8079 (black and lime green monster) - looks like a mutated turtle seeking revenge from the divers ()! I probably won't be getting it, but it looks nice. (3 out of 5)

Overall, this theme looks like it's going to be very popular among the LEGO community! :sweet:

Oh my, I will be getting a lot of those sets as soon as i can!

The uniforms and diving gear are brilliant and the sea creatures look even better now there are high res pictures. The red machines are a good counterpoint to the black Atlantean monsters. A good mix of figures and vehicles in sets plus a range of sizes. I think the only disappointing one is the Manta-Ray impulse set, its just the figure and a tiny rock. That said it is perfect for army builders.

Who says there are no Pirates in 2010?

That is one sweet fig!

Now with these high quality pics more than before I can say I really love that new diver gear  I can see plenty of awesome figs coming form those. The torsos are great too.

(even though the Manta Warrior impulse is an even bigger rip-off than than 8400 Space Speeder :hmpf_bad: ) ruins too.

I know! It's a fig and a rock! I'll still totally get it though.

Thanks for the pics everyone! :sweet:

I have mixed feelings about this line :sceptic:

The vehicles are of decency. :sceptic:

The atlantis and diver figs are awesome!

The sea creatures are pretty sweet!

And that temple is awesome! :cry_happy:

Although I am disappointed that there isn't many scenery in sets I was hoping for more under water temples but instead TLG if us a whole lot of half decent sub like things... :sceptic:

But still I pretty nice theme

Many of us are a wee bit disappointed with the ruins we've seen already, but in the box images you can see a huge temple in the background. Maybe it's a suggestion of bigger things to come? Atlantis itself? This first wave could be just the beginning of the adventure... here's hoping! We'll find out eventually I guess

I've been reading and looking at pictures of the Atlantis theme for the last few weeks or so and my excitement level has gone form about a "meh :hmpf_bad: " to somewhere up around :wub:. I've never been this excited about a non-castle/pirates/license line. The figs look absolutely awesome and the vechicles and color scheme look great. I'm really looking forward to this theme. Like others have said, hopefully there will be more non-vechicle sets in the future (like temples or ruins).

I love those new figures  - is it just me or can anyone else see the new diving gear being perfect for a hazmat suit?

Now that I've seen clearer pics of all the sets I think I can safely say that I'll be buying most of them - 8060 seems a little bit on the skeletal side, and 8059 is by far and away the weakest set in the line in my opinion, but apart from that it looks like Atlantis is set to be a pretty good theme

I can definitely see that happen. Perhaps in the summer wave. Just like we saw Inferno's Volcano Base in the background of Turbocar Chase and got it as a set soon after. Besides, you can't really have a theme called Atlantis without an actual Atlantis, and when done right, an Atlantis Temple set would sell like hot cakes.

I think this theme looks awesome now! The impulses are amazing, and I am so happy the shark dude is in a relatively cheap set. :cry_happy:

Thank you very much for the pics everyone! :classic:

I did even already not like the Aquazone sets from the mid-nineties, the Aquazone sets from 2007 were ugly (and the Power Miners and Space Police sets are bad enough) - but for this new theme I really miss words:

Is that really Lego?! And does one ugly theme like Bionicle not suffice?! :sadnew:

Parents which buy some of these sets for their kids must be  !

It's really a shame that TLG wastes its and ours time and money with developing and releasing such sets!

Yes this is Lego, and there are some that are hugely proud of it, and view your opinion as a lot of empty talking.

Do you really have to throw the content of your stomach out on everybody that has just praised this new Lego line ?

Why not spend your time on something you like ?

I have to say, my view of these sets have changed greatly, i am realy starting to love this new theme and i think the new heads are great, much better than using the smae thing sove and over again (like in the castle theme). Will i get all the sets, no. But hey when reviews start poping up i bet that will change.

It's an awesome awesome piece, well done! What is the purpose of the technic holes though? Incorporation into diving mecha for future sets?

The theme looks great overall, although a lot of the subs aren't that distinctive. I'll definitely be getting the impulses, especially seeing as that diver has a neat smile-face, and the Manta fig has a useful gold weapon. I've also got my eye on 8079, which has one of the best sea creatures I've seen so far, and the BIONICLE parts included are too awesome to pass up. The new white claws will also come in useful. I might get 8056 as well, for the good amount of black claws and orange spikes.

It'll be interesting to see how much of the bricks will be printed, considering that Aquazone creatures had lots of printed parts, and the quality of the smaller minifig creatures. the 8056 crab looks like a good candidate for printed parts, so it would be neat if the creatures had printing while the subs had the standard sticker treatment.

I think this is the first time I've commented on Atlantis... not that interested in it, and likely won't buy much, but some cool elements do stick out. The minifigs are especially excellent, and I'm not normally interested in minifigs. Some bizarre pieces that I'm interested in. Those collectible triangle-in-circle things are a step up from Agents' rather lame sticker card. Seems like the humans are once again plundering.

The overall colour scheme is a little off-putting, and this is coming from someone who absolutely loves Power Miners. TLC always seem to colour their underwater themes in some way that just doesn't quite appeal to me. A mix of deep dark and insanely bright. Hmm. Not a complete write-off by any means but it does give off a Bionicles vibe even if the pieces and construction don't (to me, anyhow).

Anyhow, yeah, I can see myself picking up some of the smaller sets but not really investing heavily. Toy Story and Power Miners will be commanding most of my funds in this wave.

So, I don't talk much on the boards but I had to respond to this.

I don't agree with Klaus-Dieter's opinion...I think. I'm not sure because of the way he phrased it which is pretty much a personal attack on the designers and people who like these sets.

I could try to translate into so actual criticism of the sets but my own thoughts would take over.

Thoughts such as, the initial thought of power miner's underwater is not turning out to be 100% accurate but there are a lot of vehicles and not many cool undersea structures. Those of us hoping for an expanded setup like Harry Potter's rescue from the Merpeople will be disappointed. But we know Lego believes that kids like vehicles and not buildings so they sell vehicles. I assume they do more market research into this area than I do. And as dissapointing as that is for some AFOLs, it makes business sense. Maybe they can do a shop at home exlusive thats a huge undersea ruin (I mean Pirates is getting its nicest set as a shop at home exclusive)

Thoughts such as, the vehicles themselves seem a little odd, a weird combination of bulky pieces, exposed technic pieces and some snot with some of the intereting pieces from the recent creator cars. In person, they may show a lot better. We've seen before where models just don't photograph well but the set is good. And as someone already said, these are great for M-Tron fans as you get that color scheme with some of the new pieces, even the cement mixer barrel in red.

Thoughts such as, the big turtle thing is very Bionicle/Exo-forceish. But Bionicle has sold very well for Lego, which is why Bionicle is still around (for now) and it helped Lego still be around. Bionicle is not everyone's cup of tea but I liked the Bionicle-pieced Dragons in the Vikings better than the single piece dragons that came in Castle and Harry Potter. The creatures aren't in every set and are prominent in only 1 or 2.

Thoughts such as, wow the creature mini-figs are very cool. Really, I don't see a downside on these.

And if Klaus-Dieter didn't like the old Aqua-Zone sets there isn't much you could do to win him over with one of these Underwater-Fantasy themes.

Can I see a lot of kids liking them? You betcha. Can I see some adults liking them? You betcha. Do I think its horrible if a parent buys one for thier kid? Not at all. Although it may be a gateway to some confusing conversations about Lovecraft.

Can I see some adults (and kids) hating them? Well, I think the answer to that one is obvious.

All of that is build up to Front. Whose posts I enjoy for the most part here. Yes, the approach to this negative commentary I don't agree with but its not any less valid that the posts that say 'OMG, I love these, I'm going to buy 30,000!'

I completely understand being proud of something you and your co-workers (and friends) have done and getting defensive if someone goes after it in this way but by trying to shut it down, it starts to create an atmosphere where criticisms aren't allowed. Lego seems to be very important to Klaus-Dieter and its understandable that he would like everything created to be to his taste. Because anything that isn't reduces capacity to produce what he wants.

And let me be clear, there are some great aspects to these new sets. If you designed the diving apparatus, congratulations. I looked at it and couldn't help wonder if you wanted it as a piece that fit over the old airtank at first (which would've been awesome but probably just that much more expensive), but if someone doesn't like them, they should be allowed to say so. If you find what he says rude, ask for clarification or attack the message but don't just dismiss it and suggest he shouldn't post his thoughts.

Tohst - who should also reiterate, I speak for myself and nobody else (not even my other personality)

Phew, I was getting worried after Phoinix said he actually saw merit in the line, but thank goodness you don't like it! Every line you have hated in the last 3 years has been a huge success for LEGO: Exo-Force, Agents, Power Miners, Space Police etc, I figure as long as you think it sucks then LEGO is on safe ground! Thanks for being consistently dismissive of everything that the company has turned around to now be profitable again and keeping the future of our hobby safe. I appreciate your honesty even though I still can't figure out why you seem to feel the need to tell everyone how much you hate things. Do you work for Mega-blocks or Play-mobil as an internet-viral-attack-mutant? You never seem to have anything positive to say! All you keep saying is 'don't buy LEGO'. Go on, you can tell us, who's paying you to create negative spin?

And in repose to Tohst - yep, everyones got an opinion, it's just this guys is ALWAYS negative, and never constructive. How many 'sick.sick, sick' comments has he made on LEGO lines in the past 3 years without ever trying to find a constructive solution bur instead personally attacks those who buy the sets as stupid.

Sure can do:

More ruins would be a great help. A classical greek temple would be a nice buy, however what I picture is probably something along the lines of a master set of pricey awesome. Another set that could do with a box of bley bricks as an add on.

This line looks like it will be another success for Lego. It is a sad but true fact that kids prfer things that they can swoosh and zoom over things that are, well, buildings.

They really could do with an added box of bley bricks and seaweed elements to make scenery with. Bestlock sell sets with an added handfull of bricks in a colour that matches the contents, for added building. It is a practice Lego should follow, it can't cost too much more...
