desultor Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Just two months ago I was informed about Brickwiki and Brickipedia as wikis for LEGO content, but now Brickwiki is a "Fedora Test Page." Which is much less exciting than it sounds. I was all excited to contribute, too! Anybody know what's happening with Brickwiki? Quote
Siegfried Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 No idea, but the blog hasn't been updated since April and according to Google the site was alive on the 27th of July. It's possible that they are just moving to a new server... but you'd expect they would have announced it first. On the other hand we don't always announce that kind of stuff. Perhaps it was a routine bit of maintenance that went wrong? Quote
tedbeard Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 No idea, but the blog hasn't been updated since April and according to Google the site was alive on the 27th of July. Holy mother of... somebody actually read the blog?!?! I guess I better start posting again. As for the server issues. I have tried contacting Venkatash (our server guy) but there is no answer. I am hoping he is simply away on vacation but it has been offline for at least two weeks. Very frustrating. Quote

MetroiD Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Please excuse me for reviving such an old thread, but Brickwiki hasn't been operational for the last week or so. Could anyone perhaps let us know what's up with the page and whether it will be available in the near future? Thanks! Quote
tedbeard Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Not sure what's happening (been busy with other things lately). There may be a server move in the works but I thought we'd get some warning before that happened. I'll try to find out. Quote
MetroiD Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Any development there mate? If the site is going offline, will it at least be back for a couple of days so that we can get the info from it? Quote
tedbeard Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 No idea. Once again the "owner" has gone silent. This time just as we were preparing to move the site to a new server to avoid such outages in the future. Quote
MetroiD Posted June 26, 2010 Posted June 26, 2010 Well it's been a few months now, so I guess it's safe to assume Brickwiki is done for. Which is definitely a pity. Quote
ajraddatz Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 Well it's been a few months now, so I guess it's safe to assume Brickwiki is done for. Which is definitely a pity. Brickipedia is still up, as usual, and has a larger community and more articles than BrickWiki ever had. Quote
tedbeard Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 Brickipedia is still up, as usual, and has a larger community and more articles than BrickWiki ever had. And yet it still has no categorization and lacks articles on the most basic concepts. <sigh> Sometimes quality matters more than quantity and hundreds of articles that are nothing more than the information available via LEGO.Com, Brickset or Peeron does not make for quality. I supported BrickWiki because it was the best place to find out about the hobby and the community as a whole. It is sad that it seems to have died thanks to the neglect of one person. Quote

I supported BrickWiki because it was the best place to find out about the hobby and the community as a whole. It is sad that it seems to have died thanks to the neglect of one person. Every article is a member of at least one category, and we have articles on not only the basic concepts but the finer details. Hence why there are now over 10,000 of them. Quote
MetroiD Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Brickipedia is still up... ...but it still has a long road ahead of it in terms of development, and many areas in which it lacks any info whatsoever. Besides, I used to like BrickWiki's uncluttered looks which made it more appealing to AFOL's as opposed to Brickipedia's design. That said, I hope lego.wikia continues to develop and takes its place alongside Brickset and Peeron as a trustworthy source of all kinds of information on LEGO. Quote
