Bfahome Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 D'awwwwww Spinax. :3 Also Antroz you fail as a set but your blades and Jutlin are kinda cool. Quote
ShaddowCroc Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 That's a really nice photo of Maxilos and Spinax. Great posing and great lighting. :D Quote
The Alchemyst Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 D'awwwwww Spinax. :3Also Antroz you fail as a set but your blades and Jutlin are kinda cool. You're forgetting the super awesome exclusive wings. Nice pictures once again Front. I wish I got M&S, I need all those Gunmetal parts. >.> Bitil is a nice parts pack. =/ Antroz is eh. [-TA-] Quote
Brickthing Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 I like the most recent photos. Bitil is especially nice, and the posing of M&S is very cute. My only qualms is that Antroz' wing is mildly inappropriately posed, and Maxilos' face looks over exposed, so it looks like it's made inferior plastic/well shaped Play-Doh. Quote
Zarkan Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 (edited) Also Antroz you fail as a set but your blades and Jutlin are kinda cool. You did not just say that! Antroz is easily the coolest of the Makuta in 2008, and IMO he is nearly perfect as canister sets go. All that he really needs is a piece of armor on his lower body and a fix for his wobbling neck, and he's utter awesomeness. Also, the Jutlin is not just "kinda cool" - it's the best evil mask we have gotten besides the original Mask of Shadows. It's one of my favorite masks by far, along with the original Miru and the Faxon. Edited September 19, 2009 by Grevious Quote
Front Posted September 22, 2009 Author Posted September 22, 2009 Thank you all for comments. 3D Brickthing is as always quite spot on in his comments on the photographic qualities. Regarding posing, some of the sets are posed really strange, to be able to have a lot of the elements showing up in a close up picture. I guess it can be depicted sometimes, if you look carefully and really know the set. 43: 8727, Toa Jaller. 2006, 2nd half, Canister set. Toa Jaller 44: 8625, Umbra. 2006, Titan set. Umbra 45: 8731, Toa Kongu. 2006, 2nd half, Canister set. Toa Kongu ........ Comments. Jaller looks up. I've always seen his mask as comical. Guess the rings around the eyes does it. Umbra with useless light up swords. Guess I one day will make a mechanism that can light it up with Power Function, although not on a figure. Kongu. Speechless. Quote
ultimate antrozek Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Kongu will always be the most awesome toa inika for me Quote
Brickthing Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Is the Kongu image one overexposed picture, or did you combine separate shots later? Regardless though, it's a great closeup shot, although Kongu's black right eye in the mirages is a bit distracting. Have you tried doing the same thing, only with all the mirages close-together around the main Kongu? It could make a cool mental effect to suggest that he's using his Mask of Telepathy. I like what you've done with Umbra, because the flaws of the set are well hid, although his pose looks a bit awkward. Jaller looks great, but he could probably look better if you light up the transparent joints, to make him look more fiery and powerful. Quote
Front Posted October 12, 2009 Author Posted October 12, 2009 The Kongu picture is one exposure, where the character has been moved to different positions. Lights turned away while moving him, to avoid streaks. 46: 8916, Takadox. 2007, 1st half, Canister set. Takadox 47: 8985, Ackar. 2009, 2nd half, Canister set. Bundalings Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 That Takadox picture is great... but what is going on with his right leg? O_o ~Bunda Quote
ShaddowCroc Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Wow. Takadox is AMAZING! I love the effect you did with the water, and even the pose itself is really awesome. Out of curiosity, how did you manage to get that water effect with Takadox? Given the fact that you've said you use a long exposure time, the singular drops of water shouldn't be visible. Quote
Front Posted October 13, 2009 Author Posted October 13, 2009 (edited) Takadox image is kind of cool yeah, I'm glad you guys like it. This image is the only one that has not been taken recently, it was done back in march 2007, a couple of months after I made contact with the Bionicle world. The technique is still more or less the same, a 25 second exposure and use of flash light in a dark room. But it also includes a shower letting up water on the model. But there is not water on the model all the time, and while there is, the flashlight only streaks fast by several times, lightning up the water very strongly in a short moments. That way you are able to see some of the drops, and still have a clear view of the direction of the water, downwards that is. I still have three Barraki to show, and could do with some more waer splashing. And remember, soon this thread can include 2010 stuff :-) That Takadox picture is great... but what is going on with his right leg? O_o~Bunda I think what you see is the mirrored leg (well it must be, I'm not that crap at posing toys, lol), he is somehow standing on or in front of a mirror. Don't remember exactly, but back then I played around with mirrors and water while photographing. Edited October 13, 2009 by Front Quote
Satellite Jack Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 In the picture of Gali Mistika, the waffle eye is covered and she looks so cool! Quote
Front Posted October 22, 2009 Author Posted October 22, 2009 I think it's time to add a few more photos, nothing spectacular though. We are getting close to 2010, and I've get sets hiding away in small boxes, waiting to come out bathing in the spotlights. But for now this thread has to be restricted to 2009 or older sets 49: 8698, Vultraz. 2008, Vehicle set. Vultraz 50: 8693, Chirox & 8949, Kirop. 2008, 1st half, Canister and small set. Burdokva Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Wow, amazing photos! I haven't bought a Bionicle set since 2003 and I was thinking to get some, just to pose and display them, and these sure are a nice incentive! Front, do you by any chance have a higher-rez version of the photo with Chirox (I'll get that one for Christmas and modify it to glow in the dark)... it looks great, a very moody, dark and imposing shot! :) Quote

Front Posted January 16, 2010 Author Posted January 16, 2010 It's been some months since I added new photos to this thread, but a couple of newly purchased sets and the assembly of some older sets, gives me the chance to resurrect this thread. 52: 8764, Vezon & Fenrakk. 2006, Titan set. Brickthing Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 It's great to see that you're photographing again! I always enjoy your pictures. 52 - The glowing eyes look great on Fenrakk, but the angle of his head is rather odd. It would be good if you could have both characters in focus in the picture, because they're both equally great parts of the set and should be emphasized likewise. 53 - The water effect looks great as usual, although slightly cobwebby... The imposing angle of the shot looks great with Hewkii's mask though. 54 - My favourite of the three, for Skirmix's head being posed like a raptor, and the glowing green blade in the background. Again though, it would be good if both characters could be in focus. I miss the Bionicle posters in the background, they did well in making the photos subtly more interesting and colourful. Would you be able to do some close-ups of some 2010 sets, namely the yellow Rahkshi? Quote

You are right about the the missing posters, at least they should be present in the non-splashy photos. Unfortunately I don't have Star Rahkshi, and unless someone give me that set, I'll prefer to wait for sales to get it. Quote
Aanchir Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 I love the glowing eyes on this. It reminds me of how back in my youth I'd gather my Space and Aquazone sets in my den, and my dad would bring out his black light to light up the fluorescent colors. That's probably part of the reason I'm so attached to the transparent fluorescent green and transparent fluorescent orange colors today. Lovely photography all around! Quote
