The Who Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 A nice MOC, and very detailed but only two white people there? May I ask why? And what time frame is this supposed to be in? (E.g. what year) Quote
Ezechielle Posted August 16, 2009 Author Posted August 16, 2009 Nowadays, somewhere in Africa... And the white peoples are just two journalists. Quote
Etzel Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Fantastic work! Not only are all the buildings extremely well built with many details but it also depict a very interesting and important subject. I find it very brave to take on the challenge to build a scene that contains sensitive questions and present the final result in such great way! I really like the looks on the damaged houses, all those bullet holes, barricaded windows and the election(?) posters are great details. The use of the truck cover from the IJ set at the house under construction is pure win. Wow, I really got inspired from looking at your creation, I want to build something similar too now! PS. Welcome to EuroBricks Ezechielle, you sure made a great entrance! Quote
74louloute Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 But...but I know this MOC! Still a very good MOC anyway, glad to see it here. Welcome to Eurobricks Ezechielle Quote
Peppermint_M Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Saw this on BrothersBrick a wihle back, good MOC, great introductory MOC too. Quote
Ezechielle Posted August 17, 2009 Author Posted August 17, 2009 Thanks all! Etzel: Yes these are election posters For thoose who want a "background": The PPDK (Fr: Parti Pour la Démocratie au Kotonga; En: Party For Democracy in Kotonga) is a political party supposed to restore "true" democracy in ths african country. In fact, this is a "fake" party leaded by some Angolese insurgents refuged in Kotonga. The party did not win the elections and his supporters bacame violent. After some riots in the capital, the PPDK clamed his victory and decided to "retake" government by force. The well equiped national army soon crushed insurgents and pacified the capital. Some militia are still fighting in the South, but Angolese army decided to help Kotonga fighting resistance (which is, after all, their problem). This diorama represents a part of the capital just after the battle for the city, with troop patrolling. Little history of Kotonga: Kotonga is a former part of the Belgian Congo. Kotonga was a very unstable region because of cultural, linguistic and ethnic particularities of his inhabitants: the Mahimahis. When Congo became independant in 1960, the main Kotongese independentist movement, the MDLK (Democratic Movement for Freedom of Kotonga), demanded the independence of Kotonga. Fearing a civil war, the Belgian autorities decided to give independence to Kotonga. The young Congolese governement wanted to see this rich region come back into his country. After his coup, Mobutu decided to arm various military groups in Kotonga to destabilize the Kotongese governement, but failed. During the first Congo war Kotonga joined Laurent-Désiré Kabila's troops. Since the overthrow of Mobutu, the relationship between Kotonga and Congo are much better. Unfortunatly, in 1999, a civil war broke up because of the Angolese insurgents refuged in Kotonga since the end of the war. Quote
BlueBard Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Amazingly detailed! I think it really captures the feeling of a city after a battle Quote
united brick Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 oh I thought this was the amarican civil war because im american lol p.s. (red socks coats suck) Quote
Jlblue Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 A piece of brilliance, if you ask me. Captures such a depressing look into a country unlucky enough to be ravaged by a war. The details are incredible. Though the news reporter smiling as she stands in front of a completely distraught city really tells a lot about her character. Quote
Brickvergnugen Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 This is an amazing creation, I'm not sure where to comment. You've captured so many images and constructed a true piece of art. I can only say, WOW, please keep building. Quote
JeffD984 Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 I feel like I could stare at this for hours and continue to find new bits of detail! Absolutely superb. This could be fitting for a Black Hawk Down MOC or even the beginning of Casino Royale! Quote
Joey Lock Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 Amazing MOC! I love making things like this, but I can never make a big enough battle scene. I was wondering why they were all smiling after a Civil War but I guess its V Day. Sorta reminds me of Resident Evil: 5 (Not being racist): Quote
Darth_Legois Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 Great MOC! I love how you've made everything look battle-damaged. And the buildings and everything are amazing, good job. Quote
Ezechielle Posted August 19, 2009 Author Posted August 19, 2009 Thanks everyone! Joey Lock: I think they are smiling because they are very happy to rebuild their country (on the other hand, I didn't have choice ) Quote
Wout Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 Very good moc. It's feels like watching the news. Quote
prateek Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 This looks really realistic! I love all the nice little details like the clothesline that really make it real. You should be really proud of yourself Quote
astra Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Amazing... truly amazing... excellent and something completely different! The details are fabulous and really make the scene come to life! Quote
Matn Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 This looks very good! I've seen it on Flickr, The Brothers Brick and BeLUG. But I've never taken my time to make a good comment on it. It's really great. I first thought it was an impressive post-apocalyptic scene, but when I looked better, I noticed it isn't sci-fi, it's the real world. It's very realistic. The details like the clothing, the ripped posters, flags, bullet holes and broken pieces make it perfect. Great job! Quote
TheBrickDaddy Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 What really grabs my attention are all the finite details, like the bullet holes and cracks. I love the use of the Indiana Jones KOTCS tents on one of your buildings. Also, the layout of this is nicely done; it is easily viewable in any direction while giving it a street-like appearance and feel. Way to start of with a bang! (no pun intended) Quote
Courleciel Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 I've just seen it on the FrontPage. Great MOC ! It's very detailed. Congraculation ! Quote
Rain Jake Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 That is nifty, It has loads of details,  Quote
Rick Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 What a (great) mess... very realistic and detailed Quote
Quarryman Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Saw this in the military building competition on Flickr a while back, it's an amazing piece of work. Lots of great details Also a very interesting theme for a MOC, there's not many Africa themed MOCs. Guess the tank could have benefited from being 10 studs wide, don't think 8 studs wide tanks look good, but that's just a matter of taste Quote
