I don't see a medal on yours. It could be a misprint. It also could have worn off. That really unlikely though. Thanks for the clear picture. I'm waiting for a review on the book and figure. On a side note are those white and black guards photoshoped or are the customs? I'm just a fan of it.

It's there, it's just not as shiny as roxio's.

Got the Visual Dictionary today - it's absolutely excellent. I would advise any Lego Star Wars fans to move heaven and earth to get this - it's truly worth it. The minifig is really just the icing on the cake.

Now which of our US members are going to attend the event on 10-10-2009?

Attend and then report back :vader:

I might go to the LEGO Store in Santa Clara.

If I do go, your wish is my command!

I'll be sure to take lots of pictures (if I go).

I got mine today, yey!

Absolutely superb book and a joy to look through; lots of fantastic photography, information and fun facts about our favourite theme, including many comparisons between the sets and minifigs from different years. There's also a superb section about production, including photograph's of LEGO 'sketches' made by the designers - such as the aforementioned Yavin IV with midi X-wing - and a 2009 prototype helmet mold for Hoth Rebels which I'm curious to know we'll see in the upcoming battle pack.

If you love Star Wars LEGO, I really can't recommend this book enough. My copy arrived at work today and after browsing through the pages two colleagues sat next to me immediately ordered it!

Oh, and of course the minifig Celebration Luke as it's referred to within, is awesome. As Dr. Dave put it: icing on the cake!

This looks amazing! I will definitely get hold of a copy of this, REGULAR edition. Forgive me if this has already been pointed out but the library version is, I presume, to provide stock at public libraries. Of course, I may be wrong!

And more than likely no minifigure and reinforced binding...

I received my copy of the book today and its an excellent read.

I purchased mine on Amazon.co.uk but I've noticed that the book is also available at www.bookdepository.co.uk for stg

This is a really nice book, with some great photographs of various sets and minifigs which are really nice to look at. It is well laid out, and covers quite a lot of material, although quite a lot of it is stuff you would likely already know. I really like the section at the back which has an interview with one of the SW design team, now that is cool. I never knew how they make the new elements and such, so this section in particular is interesting reading. There is also a page on community, which has a few recognizable MOCs in it. The minfig is a nice bonus too, with the shiny medal. Lovely indeed!

A worthy book to have in the collection, in my opinion. :classic:

You have it? Did you buy it in New Zealand? I really want the book but I wouldn't know where to get it in New Zealand except for on S@H which it would be really expensive to ship just a book

just order it from amazon....i think its about $30ish NZ$ shipped with the good exchange rate at the moment

i've ordered books from amazon before and they come pretty quick

Damn, people sure were worried about the minifig. :sceptic: It's honestly just icing for me, I'm getting it for the book, not the minifig. I mean, it looks alright and all but the book is so much more appealing.

Oh right yea I might just order it from there then.

I'll be ordering this for sure, even though most of us AFOL's know most of the info, it's nice to have it all cataloged somehwere in a nice format.

Very nice book- love the interview with the designers at the back. I wonder wether the Hoth Rebel helmet prototype got past the prototyping stage?. I guess it may show up in the new Battlepacks next year- its a shame it didn't make it into the Tauntaun set.

As others have said the Luke minifig is a great bonus, I think it was a great choice for the book, and as they say inside it will be very unlikley to appear elsewhere- here's a shot of mine (with a few friends  )

I know the Amazon price is 14.99. But will the Lego Store price be the same or more? I read in next month's calendar that you can buy the book and get promos. I'm wondering if I should order it off Amazon now for a low price or wait to get it and giveaways with it. :sceptic:

The other Lego Book is riddled with errors, so I hope the SW Visual Dictionary is somewhat better

Here's a few fun facts for fun fact fans!

  • Greedo was only ever officially released in Benelux (!)
  • The 14K gold C-3P0 is worth a staggering $200
  • The old moulded Yoda is identified as the 2009 Yoda
  • The 2005 caped and 2007 capeless Grievous pics are transposed
  • One battle droid is identified as having the modified arm so it can hold blasters when it clearly doesn't have that arm

 I am not kidding! And I haven't even had an exhaustive look at the book yet.

The Brickset review doesn't really mention how factually dodgy these books are. Not trustworthy sources at all. I can't believe that they didn't run them past some AFOLs first to pick up these obvious and embarrassing errors!

Yes I notice that as well. In addition they call Ahsoka's droid RY-AY, have 2009 Han as 2004, have a 2003 Snowtrooper with a late model blaster, Incorrectly identify a 2005 Stormtrooper as 2006 and the list goes on.

There are similar errors in the medieval section. If I could pick these errors up without even trying, image how easy it would be to give draft copies to a few LEGO fans. I'm sure there would be plenty of takers. :sceptic:

Ok, so now we all know the book has flaws and errors.

(Friendly hint to tone the ranting down a little bit).

Can we focus on the cool and great parts of this release now? :cry_happy:
