Ratshot Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Why so many KimT? One for the living room, one for the bathroom, one for the car, one for the bedroom, one for the Lego room Quote
Svelte Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 The SW Visual Dictionary holds up much better than 'The Lego Book', that's all I was saying. So actually it was a compliment to the former It's brilliant to have printed high quality set images all in one place, and the timelines are brilliant. Classifying the battlepacks as EU was an interesting move, too - do we take that as official? Quote
KimT Posted October 1, 2009 Author Posted October 1, 2009 The SW Visual Dictionary holds up much better than 'The Lego Book', that's all I was saying. So actually it was a compliment to the former And now I understand It's brilliant to have printed high quality set images all in one place, and the timelines are brilliant. Indeed, I've been looking/reading mine for the past 2 hours or so, and I'm still stunned from the high quality of the pics and info. Classifying the battlepacks as EU was an interesting move, too - do we take that as official? I think so. They were part of the "let's try this EU thing and see if it sells or not"... Why so many KimT?One for the living room, one for the bathroom, one for the car, one for the bedroom, one for the Lego room Something like that. Quote
JCC1004 Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 I really can't wait for mine. Amazon list it as $12.86 in the US. It says the list price is $21.99. Is 21.99 the RRP and is $12.86 Amazon's price? If the RRP is 21.99 I'll just get it at the Lego Store. Shipping will bring it at or above RRP anyway. Something like that. Too lazy carry one around? Taking one to work too? Quote
The Who Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Damn, people sure were worried about the minifig. It's honestly just icing for me, I'm getting it for the book, not the minifig. I mean, it looks alright and all but the book is so much more appealing.Yes, but if there is icing, it better taste good. Greedo was only ever officially released in Benelux (!) What does that mean? I don't quite understand it... Mine arrived today and I couldn't care less for the small errors. It's awesome It is indeed awesome, but did they really have to label Darth Vader? I just personally think that anybody who does not recognize Dath Vader doesn't know the meaning of being a Star Wars fan. Quote

I just personally think that anybody who does not recognize Dath Vader doesn't know the meaning of being a Star Wars fan. Part of the DK Visual Guide house style is to put little labels all over the place identifying things. If it was a picture of a cat, there'd be a line and a little tag with 'Cat!' attached to it. These books are designed to be as helpful as possible. Regardless of your level of SW knoweldge, I doubt the graphic designers had much say in flexibility when it comes to this sort of thing and it gives readers some idea of what to expect. Quote

CapnDan Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 The other Lego Book is riddled with errors, so I hope the SW Visual Dictionary is somewhat better ... The Brickset review doesn't really mention how factually dodgy these books are. Not trustworthy sources at all. I can't believe that they didn't run them past some AFOLs first to pick up these obvious and embarrassing errors! Hey, just to check (like I asked in the Castle forum, so sorry for the redundancy)...are you talking about 'Standing Small' or 'The LEGO Book' here? I was kind of hoping the main book was largely error-free (apart from apparently misspelling two AFOL names, dangit). Quote

Drock Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Hey KimT, how much do you have to mutilate the front of the book to get the minifigure out? Quote
KimT Posted October 2, 2009 Author Posted October 2, 2009 Hey KimT, how much do you have to mutilate the front of the book to get the minifigure out? Not at all. It's in a neat little plastic container that you can easily open. No need to damage or mutilate anything. Quote
LEGOscum Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 (edited) Classifying the battlepacks as EU was an interesting move, too - do we take that as official? That was purely on my recommendation to DK, who had put them in the movie timeline groups. My arguement was that since they were not in the films they were outside of Lucas's canon universe. I guess since it went through approvals with both Lucasfilm and LEGO Group and didn't get rejected you might consider it as official as it is going to get. But if you don't agree you can blame me. Hey KimT, how much do you have to mutilate the front of the book to get the minifigure out? I've got spares of the minfig :) Edited October 2, 2009 by LEGOscum Quote
Big Cam Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 (edited) I never thought of buying more than one until I saw KimT's pic. I think I'm in for a few as well. EDIT: on another note, do you think this will increase in value??? Aren't most books printed forever? Edited October 2, 2009 by Big Cam Quote

Commander 501 Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 (edited) I got it today from Amazon an found a pic of the new Hoth rebel and his helmet: http://www.imperiumdersteine.de/showpost.p...mp;postcount=88 Looks very detailed, you even have the possibility to put the glasses the way you want. On my pic, they are fixed on the front, but you can also fix them in the two holes below the position you can see on this pic. Edited October 2, 2009 by Commander 501 Quote
LEGOscum Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 IAren't most books printed forever? No, books do go out of print. But there is now an on-demand publishing machine starting to appear in bookshops that might prevent that: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/art...s.html?ITO=1490 ...ok...? I have Throne Room Luke minifigs which are extraneous to my collection. Hence I used the word "spare"and "minfig"in the same sentance so that those forum members who were discussing getting extra copies of the book so they could have duplicates or custom fodder were aware. What's confusing about that? Quote

RileyC Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 I ordered mine from a local book store yesterday. It will take longer to get here but it's cheaper and I'm not in a rush to get it anyway. I found a review of the book on YouTube last night. Sorry I don't have a link but if you just search Lego star wars the visual dictionary you should get it because there's only one. It is a litttle kid reviewing it but he seems to be well educated. He shows you pretty much every page which is cool Quote
The Who Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Benelux What are you guys meaning by small errors? Oh, thanks. I thought it was a made up word. And they mean labeling errors and whatnot. Not at all. It's in a neat little plastic container that you can easily open. No need to damage or mutilate anything. That's really nice to know. I got it today from Amazon an found a pic of the new Hoth rebel and his helmet:http://www.imperiumdersteine.de/showpost.p...mp;postcount=88 Looks very detailed, you even have the possibility to put the glasses the way you want. This belongs in the Rumor Topic, but I'll go ahead and comment anyway. I finally see why it would be a tan helmet, which is because it is not a helmet at all, but rather one of those caps with 'extensions' to cover the back of the head. Quote

LEGOscum Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 (edited) Nothing. I guess you just quoted me by accident. I didn't quote you by accident. You seemed concerned about damaging the book to get the minifig out. Nothings confusing, its just whats the point in telling us? To let anyone who wanted one but didn't want to damage their book or buy extra copies know that there was another way of getting them. But I didn't want to come straight out and start selling in this thread, but seeing as this side-topic has got so much attention: I've got 3 Throne Room Lukes to sell. PM me if you are interested. I wasn't bragging, I was trying to help. Edited October 3, 2009 by LEGOscum Quote
