Cyclone Titan Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 This summer is a bad time to be a key figure in the media. No, let me reinstate that. A SERIOUSLY bad time to be a key figure in the media. After Jacko and Fawcett, to put it lightly, everyone started dropping off like flies. And now the plague will hopefully end with Ted Kennedy. The last surviving Kennedy brother died today of cancer, not the or rallying for president like his 2 brothers. He had a great life though, despite the tragedy, serving on the senate for 50 years. Wow. That's quite the feat. Perhaps this was a warning to signal the end of a generation, a glamorous, scandalous one, and usher in a new blingy and equally scandalous one. I sure hope not. Well, if you feel like honoring his life, and branching off that, perhaps the Kennedys lives as well, I guess this topic would be the place. CT PS: I am seriously close to being a grim reaper. I posted Cronkite's, John Hughes', Les Paul's and now Ted Kennedy's death topic. What have I done!?

What have I done!? Given me the idea that we might need a "Guess who died!" thread with all of them merged into it for just such discussions. I must admit, Ted was old and sick and I was never a fan, but I'm glad he's not suffering anymore (I assume he was).

Spot on with that, it'll be a summer thing. And perhaps if you want, I can do and EB News death segment once in a while, or is that stretching it? CT Edited August 26, 2009 by Cyclone Titan
Shadows Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 I can do and EB News death segment once in a while, or is that stretching it? We'll see. It does seem like the kind of thing we would do.
Cyclone Titan Posted August 26, 2009 Author Posted August 26, 2009 We'll see. It does seem like the kind of thing we would do. Errr, I never thought you would even consider it... Yay? Although, this chat is getting off-topic (I blame myself for that) and, well... need I say more? CT
Big Cam Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 I don't consider this a bad timing thing like Jackson, in dfact his was the only bad timing one. Ted Kennedy and Fawcet were both on their way for a long time now. Still sad.
posades Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Yes it's sad to see such a large political figure like him go, but I'm assuming he was suffering like Imperial Shadows mentioned so it might have been best for him to move on. His family was by his side so if he was conscious at the time, at least he left content.
KimT Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 He wasn't a large political figure where I live. Let's refrain from thinking that this is a US-only site please.

KimT Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Did I misunderstand you No no no. I was merely trying to point out that.... It's just that over the years I've been getting tired of all the 9/11 topics and religious topics that from time to time surface here. This is a LEGO fan site and not the site to discuss such matters as politics or religion and the consequences of those. I can easily imagine this topic turning into a political issue and I wanted to prevent that. Of course you can honour someone who's died... Sorry.

I see where you were coming from now. Granted I'm from the US, I can definetaly see your point. I didn't mean to sound confrontational

Is there anyone in this thread that thinks this is a US-only site? I was merely pointing out that he was a large political figure to me (though I could have chosen my words better since it's not always right to assume possessive speech). I think it's always appropriate to mourn someone, even if you didn't totally agree for what they stood for/what they did. I saw on the news a little while ago he will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery, which is quite the honor.
HumanPackMule Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 My folks think that his followers will probably use his death as a way to further the cause of socializing America more.
Big Cam Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 My folks think that his followers will probably use his death as a way to further the cause of socializing America more. They absolutely will, famous /important peopel always get thrown under the bus once they are dead because they can't fight back. So many who have passed have had their death used for someting they probably would not have wanted.
Adam Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 He wasn't a large political figure where I live.Let's refrain from thinking that this is a US-only site please. Guys, let's remember that in addition to this point made by KimT, Eurobricks is a largely politics-free site. I respect your views and opinions (some of which I share) but here is not the place to tell me them. I suggest we use this thread to talk about the death of Mr. Ted Kennedy (I don't know much about him; he must be big in the United States).

Well he was the brother of John F Kennedy, one of our greatest(according to history) presidents and was assasinated, so he was already in the public back in the beginning of his political carrer. He has been in the US senate forever and was greatly respected as having done alot of good for the Country. Me being bored with politics couldn't tell you what he did.
