Siegfried Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 I don't care how big they are or how many sites they have, perhaps if instead of just sacking 200 staff to save more money and put them to security they might have avoided nearly a month of down time. I've got no idea what sacking you're on about so I can't comment much. Were these 200 people web-programmers? Anyway, are you happy to pay Sony more to help pay for these 200 staff? I am, and that's why I paid for PS+, you I recall canceled. Don't you think it's a bit much to expect Sony to put more into a free service when you aren't prepared to put your money where your mouth is? Quote

Jedi master Brick Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 You're lucky you still get free network, live on x box costs £36 a year Quote
prateek Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 You're lucky you still get free network, live on x box costs £36 a year EXACTLY! Quote
Siegfried Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 You're lucky you still get free network, live on x box costs £36 a year Yes. That's another reason why I'm happy to pay for PS+... (I don't play online games much though so I've never felt the need to pay for the Live Gold service for my 360... I don't use my 360 much either for that matter! ) Quote
simonjedi Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 UK is back up. Just waiting for my password reset email Quote
ADHO15 Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Hooray! I'm back online! UK is back up. Just waiting for my password reset email I just made a new one when I signed in. Was that because I had downloaded content? Quote
prateek Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Hooray! I'm back online! I saw you online! I just made a new one when I signed in. Was that because I had downloaded content? No. Sony is making everyone change their password, for security reasons. Quote
ADHO15 Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 I saw you online! Likewise. No. Sony is making everyone change their password, for security reasons. I was meaning the method of doing so. Do you have to do it via email if you don't have downloaded content, like was mentioned in a link above? I'm glad I didn't have to do it that way as I cannot access my PS3 email account. Quote

5150 Lego Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 You're lucky you still get free network, live on x box costs £36 a year well that "free" network seems to have cost them quite a bit. To be fair part of the cost for the 360's yearly memebership fee goes to firewalls and such. Need to pay people that run them somehow. Quote

Online game devs would still have basic knowledge of security systems. Even still that many employees fired and the attack so soon afterwards is too much of a coincidence. Perhaps if they have of spent more money on security instead of facebook and utube features maybe they would not have lost so much money. As for lawsuits whoever hacked Sony will no doubt be forced to pay the legal fees anyway. I thought XBLA was free only if you pay you get better features. Edited May 16, 2011 by DarthSion Quote

Siegfried Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 PSN is back for me! Online game devs would still have basic knowledge of security systems. Even still that many employees fired and the attack so soon afterwards is too much of a coincidence. Basic maybe but that's the kind of knowledge that causes problems, and no it's not. Honestly, why are you arguing with me about programming? Care to share why you would know even 1% of what I know? There's Xbox Live Silver, but you have to buy the Gold one to play online. There's also early access to demos and other stuff like Facebook features (DarthSion would love to use those), but nothing compelling for me. Quote

Actually after a recent health problem of a friend I joined facepalmbook. My understanding is that Sony gives us free online gaming because they make devs pay the bill, not sure if its true but what I was told Sony charges devs the privilige of hosting they stuff online so that all gamers get to play free. My understanding is Sony is also looking into a paid service like XBLA. 2000th post. Edited May 16, 2011 by DarthSion Quote
Siegfried Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I guess same reason you always argue with me. Possibly. Actually after a recent health problem of a friend I joined facepalmbook. I joined as I was nagged a lot to do so, and it saves me time trying to keep in touch with friends and family from other states/countries. My understanding is that Sony gives us free online gaming because they make devs pay the bill, not sure if its true but what I was told Sony charges devs the privilige of hosting they stuff online so that all gamers get to play free. I've heard that. My understanding is Sony is also looking into a paid service like XBLA. I've heard that too. I'm hoping that PS+ is a success so they don't need to do that. 2000th post. w00t Quote
simonjedi Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Hurrah back on. If anyone is interested in MP/co-op/trophy boosting let me know. PSN in stickied topic Quote
prateek Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 (edited) Free games! Us North Americans get a choice of: Dead Nation inFAMOUS LittleBigPlanet Super Stardust HD Wipeout HD + Fury Given the only game I'm interested in is inFAMOUS, but okay... I'll probably get LBP too and return my hard copy. Edited May 16, 2011 by prateek Quote
simonjedi Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Eu people get a choice of LittleBigPlanet Infamous Wipeout HD/Fury Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty Dead Nation Wipeout and dead nation for me. Quote
prateek Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Wow, lucky. I wish I had a choice of Rachet and Clank. I don't know why anyone would want Stardust, considering it is just an arcade game... Quote
RileyC Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 I guess I'll get dead nation and Wipeout. They dont look great but I already have LBP and inFamous. But I guess a free game is a free game. It's really nice that they are doing this as they really didn't have to do anything. I'm really loving it back on though. I bough Assassins Creed Brotherhood and while the story confuses me, the multiplayer is so much fun! I think it's one of the best games I've played online for sure. Quote
DarthSion Posted May 17, 2011 Author Posted May 17, 2011 Wipeout is pretty good, I got it and its good fun, obviously its just a mindless racing game with big guns, but fun none the less. Quote
punkr13 Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Ya I'll def get wipeout but don't know about the 2nd choice.... sucky part is that I have a low HD on my ps3 so I don't know how much space infamous is going to use.. I can't wait to see what +plus discs are left for the other games like megaman :D Quote
DarthSion Posted May 19, 2011 Author Posted May 19, 2011 Then why not upgrade it is not hard to do, just loosen the outside plate, undo a screw pull it out pop a new one in. Only hard part is being careful with the screws as they sheer easily. Quote
