Hello,

Now, first of all, don't post stuff like  THOMAS STINKS!!! We AFOLs may or may not like LEGO Thomas but (as quoted from CARS section) we know people who do  .

My Story: Have a 5 year-old cousin that is in to Thomas. He has 1-2 sets already! To keep him from turning to the dark side(MB) , I wish to keep up on the news. This seems to be the first thread of it's kind. Links to sets and news will post here. I'm not great on posting photos yet though :sceptic: .

"NEW" SETS:

Stanly at Great Waterton

Thomas at Morgan's Mine

James Celebrate Sodor Day

The rest is on the top  .

Feel free to post news yourself. You might just be faster than me :tongue:

At least all of my kid relatives of mine are to old for Duplo. I buy them Lego and they like it. Does anyone think there should be a fourm to discuss Duplo? It is Lego. I think making it's own fourm would be a waste. perhaps it has it's own subfourm in other themes? I'm just giving some suggestions. The parents, gandparents of my kid relatives were asking me for Lego advice. I told hem they will grow out of Duplo fast. I wish they had thomas Duplo when I was a tot.

But then I plan to get firefighter Lego for my 3 year-old cousin  . Yes, I was thinking of the Duplo fourm myself. Some people may not want the smaller blocks yet.

My relatives think since I'm An AFOL I know everything about Lego and can make great mocs. I was planning on a Christmas scence this year with some of my Hoth figs. I'm still thinking on what to do. With Duplo it's a personal expirence. The kids come over to vist me and see my Lego (I should have never let them know about that room) and they want similar things. They said something along the lines of" I don't want thes big blocks anymore I want those and point to my Indy sets and OT SW. if you're cousin still enjoys Duplo then get it for him. But if you're case is like mine ask them (and their parents, long story) if they want normal Lego. One of my memories of Duplo was buildng a (very good) Statue of Liberty. It was very nice. Torch and everything. I was 5, 6? I did get into normal Lego at about 8 after 3 years of Gi Joe. When SW came out 10 years ago(I was 13) I loved it. I had the Cantina and tons of the old sets. Dad, I hope whatever AFOl got my sets is realy enjoying them. He sold all of mine at a yard sale. :hmpf::cry_sad:

The new Thomas stuff is awful. The whole show is in CGI now. But man, back in the day when they used to use those model trains in the show, with the voice overs of George Carin and Ringo Starr...

That was some good stuff (well, when I was 5). Much better than any crap kid shows they have on TV today.

I miss that show....

and the good Spongebob episodes...

and Monk (it is in it's last season).

Oh, wait. Are we supposed to be talking about the sets? If we are, I want a system scaled Thomas. That is all.

old thomas was the best, they had meaning instead of the new ones which themes are normally "something happens, its resolved though some reason that teachs children nothing" old ones where good.

something to chew on: http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=rkovis...amp;view=videos

sadly system scale thomas wouldent sell very well, duplo connects with system though, they appear to be 8 system studs wide(4 duplo studs ) so its possible to do.

Yes. I saw a couple and the model trains and the problem sovling... good example to kids.

I hate Thomas with a passion but my 4 year old nephew loves him. I wont be getting him any duplo sets anytime soon though.

You guys crack me up with your old good spongebob episode talk.

I remember when the show was created, and I was already too old for it then. I don't mind watching it with my nephew though.

My youngest is 3 and still watches and I have been watching them since my oldest (almost 12 now) was younger.

I can say that the new storylines are as sappy as any childrens programming but they are not all CGI. What they have done is brilliant. They took the old footage of the models and have added animated faces to the engines and CGI people to the scenes. I like it much better than the old versions. Just be glad you never had to watch the abomination that was "Shining Time Station" with Stacey Jones et al. They survived into the piece of crap movie called "Thomas and the Magic Railroad" with Alec Baldwin and Peter Fonda. <shudder> May those days never come again.

Sorry, didn't mean to go off on a rant there. I love the Thomas Railway DUPLO. It is the only DUPLO I will buy. Well at least until the Cars sets come out. :)

After my son was born I bought him almost all Duplo sets from 2005-2008. But when he was turning three he already pointed out in Lego catalogue big City container boat and for that Christams he got that one and Ferrari set. In less than a year I ended up spending more than 1000EUR on normal Lego starting with City sets switch to Pirates while on holidays and Indiana Jones. Still my almost four years old son likes both of them - Duplo and City sets. He plays with the Lego world I built him but he builds himself with Duplo, until recently when he built Indiana Jones flying wing into SW fighter. For this christmas it will be already SW sets but these are double the brick price ...

My advice would be to buy some Duplo but not too much as anyway they will switch quite quickly. I use Duplo in my normal System creations like here and here . And I plan to sell off most of Duplo vehicles and figures when my second son turns three.

I have no interest in Thomas or Duplo. However I used to avidly watch the program (before all cgi nonsense and what not ). I wouldn't mind if there were some LEGO System Thomas sets which could be set on to existing system tracks.

"Thomas and the Magic Railroad"

I thought I'd never hear of that monstrosity. That was awful. I loved Thomas as a kid and now they are awful. I had some favorite trains. That moive was a epic fail.

I'd like Thomas in System. I'd love red and blue train parts :cry_happy:

The Thomas Duplo is great IMO. My nephew loves it. I don't think you need too much Duplo to be honest. He's very happy with the Thomas starter set (the one with the troublesome truck and hopper) some extra track (points and 1x set of curves) and various ordinary Duplo sets (the small ones with animals, couple bricks and a person are great when combined with the brick boxes like the one with all the windows/doors).

Ah, I used to love Thomas when I was really little, and my youngest brother has the same love for it now. He has a lot of the duplo Thomas sets, and I've got to say that they aren't that bad. TLC's done a good job of replicating the characters - the only problem is that they aren't doing well with the selection. I mean, come on - why a set of a random new engine like "Stanely" instead of all the classic characters they could make? They still haven't made Henry or Edward, for crying out loud!

I have to disagree with that. Just walking by when my little brother is watching the new show, the first thing that popped into my head was "gosh, that is ugly!" Seriously, the animated faces aren't any more emotional than the classic way of doing them, and they don't look nearly as nice. But yeah, I agree about Thomas and the Magic Railroad. What is even more disturbing is that I wanted to go see it when I was young. First theater move I ever went too.

I do like the thomas train in my collection. Only duplo trains are 8 studs wide and my layout can only handle 7studs wide, otherwise many acidents will happen.

Still it's something nice to have :sweet: .

Am I the only one that wishes LEGO would make some Thomas System scale sets. I mean LEGO hyped up this new system of LEGO Trains and yadda yadda and I think it's been a complete failure (One overpriced set?!?), so make Thomas as a System, brick built train! :)
