The Who Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Yes but the Zeppelin is bigger than the Falcon last I checked in terms of actual scale. And it isn't easy to make a large, hollow dirigible of that scale. -Omi Which is why there is some sort of internal structure, as would be in a real Zeppelin.Real Zeppelins had Steel Frames, Blimps are big empty balloons. Omicron Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Which is why there is some sort of internal structure, as would be in a real Zeppelin.Real Zeppelins had Steel Frames, Blimps are big empty balloons. Still pricey and huge. :P Just being realistic here. -Omi Quote
kill will Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Still pricey and huge. :PJust being realistic here. -Omi The thing is, how would the actual balloon be built? The one at BrickFair had assorted sails, but TLC wouldn't be able to make that. And brick-built would be repetitive, huge, pricey, and wouldn't look right without SNOT or a ton of tiles. Quote
Pellaeon Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 And minifig-scale zeppelin? As in the zeppelin from Last Crusade? Are you serious? It would be bigger than this. A minifig scale Hindenburg (assuming the typical 1:44th scale) would, in fact, be over 18 feet long (5.6 meters). ... I think we can safely say TLC won't be making such a thing. Not that I wouldn't want one. Quote

The guy used foam for his dirigible, and it wasn't even finished either. People were kinda irked that good majority of it wasn't Lego, but I let is slide cuz it was fuckin big. :P -Omi Quote
Tom Bricks Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 I just don't think the Indy theme is well suited to a UCS set. When you see the Batmobile or the Death Star you instantly think Batman and Star Wars. I don't think of Indiana Jones when I see a Zeppelin or a tank though. (the lack of a swastika on the back would also be very obvious) I think that Larger $150 price range sets with many minifigs would work and sell better, possibly of the opening temple or the library and tomb. Dunjohn Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 Indy as a license isn't really set up to fit the UCS theme. It's not like Star Wars, it has no vehicles to showcase. The only ones that even come close, that I can think of, are the Zepplin and the circus train. Haven't seen Crystal Skull. No, in contrast to Star Wars, I think Indy showcases its scenery more than its machinery. UCS might, at a stretch, accomodate that, like maybe a detailed replica of the map room? Quote
Omicron Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 Ok buddy no swearing. I quote from the rules, specifically the bolded: Age: Eurobricks is a site intended for an adult audience, which for the purpose of these guidelines are people of around the age of 18 or greater. We reserve the right to ban anyone who does not meet that requirement. Posting that you are not an adult is a quick way to be banned. If you choose to ignore these guidelines and sign up anyway, it is not our responsibility if you are offended by what you read or see. Similarly, if you are an adult who is offended by what is often labeled as adult content, you should probably avoid this site. Considering there is no rules specifically against it, you will just have to deal with it. Also, if you are offended, report it. Don't play moderator with me. -Omi Quote
Diamondback Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 LEGO could one-up Lucas with an accurate Pan Am Clipper, either (my preference) the big Boeing 314 or the (better fit timewise) Martin M-130 as opposed to the postwar Short Solent in the film. If they release a set of the Zeppelin, I'd expect its size to be achieved by brick and plate girders and gondola with a mostly-fabric exterior and possibly SNOT endcaps. (We're cool with fabric tents, capes, sails and vehicle ragtops, why not a Zeppelin skin which also was fabric in reality?) Complication: passenger space on most of the commercial Zeppelins was in the bottom 1/4-1/3 of the "cigar", in a short area around midships. (I have a 1/720-scale Hindenburg on my workbench, and the observation deck windows look like they're about 1/4 of the way up the side.) But... It needs to be big enough to hook the bipe from Fighter Plane Attack to its belly. Quote
Batbrick Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 I know this is probably not even a possibility, but a Lego zeppelin would make me cry with joy. I'd pay good money for one, everything is better with zeppelins after all! Batbrick Away! Quote
David Thomsen Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 As nifty as a Lego zeppelin would be, there are two problems... one, it would be far too big at minifig scale, unless you cheated and made a 'mini' zeppelin, kind of like 4504 Millenium Falcon. And then it wouldn't be in scale with the other vehicles, and then everyone would be upset. Secondly, it would be boring to build. 4000 or so white slopes, made over 20 hours or so... yeah. I don't think enough Indiana Jones lego fans are as fanatical as the Star Wars fans. I had this idea a while back that they could cheat and have an inflatable zeppelin piece... but then everyone would hate the Lego company FOREVAR. Even though, in practical terms, this would be the most cost effective way, and also the best looking. I wouldn't mind it too much - I already happily use canvas sails and bits of string on my pirate sets, this is just an extention on the 'non-Lego lego pieces' idea. Isn't a zeppelin just like a big tent, like the one in Jungle Duel? Or a big canopy, like the one in Race for the Stolen Treasure? I think if the choice was between an inflatable lego zeppelin and no lego zeppelin at all, I think most fans would choose the inflatable zeppelin. Some might even grow to accept it... Personally, I'd love to see the castle they save Henry Jones Senior from made into a UCS set. I have lots of cars, trucks, motorcycles and planes already, not many actual locations... at least, not locations that can sensibly co-exist next to each other. A really big location UCS would be fantastic. Quote
