Posted September 6, 200915 yr Hello all, I'm Calanon, and although I have only just signed up, I've been browsing this forum for quite a while now. I have quite a large collection. (I barely have enough space, everything is full!) So anyway, I'm thinking of making a Town, however I kind of like to make things realistic, yet not too big and not too hard or expensive, and by realistic I mean doors, rooms that are used, houses for everyone, good-sized hotels.. and...and...TOILETS!!! Yes, I want to give my Lego figures toilets, sinks, baths, showers etc. I also want realistic cars. (4 seats, not one, a family of Lego people will have trouble going abroad with a one-person car!) Anyway, now for some questions. 1) Is 6 studs wide good enough to have 4 people in a car? (2 front, 2 back) 2) How can I make roads big enough for 8 stud wide vehicles? (Lorry's) 3) would a 6-stud wide train be wide enough to have chairs on one side, walking space on the other? 4) What are good bricks to make kitchens and toilets? 5) Does this go against the Lego feel at all? And about aeroplanes... to make a good realistic size with room for a people to walk up and down, 2 seats either side with a lane down the middle, that'd come to about 20 studs, is that just madness? If I wanted to create a plane with another four seats in the middle with another lane (lane either side) that'd come to 40 studs, what pieces would you recommend? Thank you for your time. :) EDIT: How do I change my name? I misspelt it. >.< EDIT 2: One more question... would a RC train motor fit into the Emerald Night Train? Edited September 6, 200915 yr by Calaon
September 6, 200915 yr planes are really wide. planes that have been converted for cargo can carry cars. the ploblem is that to stay in scale they have to be very long . and airports very large! build an airfield or small airport that only handles small planes(2 man planes). even some of the smallest commercial planes have 4 rows of seats, and go past 20 seats long+tail, then theres the hold, this means you have to make the plane taller to fit it in, the wings would also be massive. lego roads can be used for 8-wide vehicles if you dont like the result then make your own. 6 wide and 4 people can be done, ive done 2 side by side, one word of warning you will need a space between seats for there arms meaning the seats need to come out to the side, so the doors are hard to do. a 6-wide coachs normally have 1 row of seats, but thats not realistic, you can have 1 row of seats each side of the walkway with 8 wide. you can do what you want with lego, people make really detailed space ships and stuff. the classic lego feel isnt what you seem to want, its your choice which feel you want.
September 6, 200915 yr EDIT: How do I change my name? I misspelt it. >.< Maybe ask an admin ? EDIT 2: One more question... would a RC train motor fit into the Emerald Night Train? Yes, definitely, there are some examples where this has been done

Ah, thanks, that's quite helpful, any good bricks for making the doors for six-stud wide cards? Maybe ask an admin ?Yes, definitely, there are some examples where this has been done Hmm... I tried to PM an Admin, but it wouldn't let me use the message system. :( Also, could you possibly link me to one or two examples where a RC train motor has been put into the Emerald Night Train? Would be much appreciated, thanks. :)
September 6, 200915 yr Interesting that you cannot use PM, because as said in the helppage this is the way to contact the admins. You can find them here btw http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?...mp;CODE=leaders About that example for motorising the emerald with RC, I know this one on flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/30992181@N03/3505483978/ but there are multiple options, i would say give it a go and type it into google
September 6, 200915 yr for putting the RC from the cargo train and the passenger train then put it in the coach, this wont really fit with the type of coach but it will work. that super long tender option is kinda stupid, the EN apears to be based on british proto types and if they needed lots of fuel+water for a long journey then they where given two tenders. i would suggest just paying the extra for the PF, the rechargeable battery is cheeper in the long run than 9AAs that need replaceing about as often as you have to charge the PF battery. oh and for good doors for 6 wide cars look at the offical lego models, the tow-truck uses the classic doors. brick built doors also work. September 6, 200915 yr Author The main reason I don't wanna use PF for the Emerald Night is that it takes up the tender and the area where the train driver stands, and you have to have a wire across the two of them. Thanks for the vid Aawsum, I tried googling it, but came up with nothing. :(
September 6, 200915 yr 1) Is 6 studs wide good enough to have 4 people in a car? (2 front, 2 back) Maybe, but just barely. 8 stud is better.. 2) How can I make roads big enough for 8 stud wide vehicles? (Lorry's) You can't really "make" roads per se rationally. You just have to use road plates. 3) would a 6-stud wide train be wide enough to have chairs on one side, walking space on the other? Yes. 4) What are good bricks to make kitchens and toilets? Check out other peoples MOCs, often time they will have made some cool furniture/appliances in ways you would never expect! 5) Does this go against the Lego feel at all? No way! September 8, 200915 yr Author Right, thanks guys, I've just seen a moc of an 8 wide train, so after I purchase the Emerald Night train, I shall try to make it wider. I will possibly also make 8-stud wide cars as they will be easier to keep detail and stop any overlapping, but that leaves the problem of having a 10-stud wide truck, and the fact 8-stud wide cars only just fit. Now, is it possible to put a power-function motor in the middle of the Emerald-Night train? Or is there stuff in the way?
September 12, 200915 yr For your airplanes, I think that you would have a hard time building a realistic one since it would be huge. I find that 6 studs wide is enough for 2 people but 8 studs is perfect. The down side is that road plates are designed for 6 stud wide. For an 8 stud wide car, you need to use custom roads, very simple and you can build them how you want! The Lego feel is up to each person, I have seen basic little towns and massive realistic metropolis so do what YOU want not what some guy in Russia wants. Good Luck!
September 12, 200915 yr Hey Calaon, and welcome to Eurobricks! Firstly, the reason you can't PM an admin is because you're in the "I'm New" group and members with that group aren't allowed to use PM until they reach the rank of "Vassal" (10+ posts). Secondly, in regards to your town, I would suggest browsing Brickshelf, Flickr and reading Raibricks. There are also fantastic train resources over at Train Tech and you can see the Train Tech Index here. Good luck mate.
September 18, 200915 yr Author Thank you, Captains. I shall use flats and terraced houses to house my population and I will have a good look on those sites. :) Captain Genaro, how do I make a custom road? Also, is there any of of putting the PF motor in the middle of the Emerald Night? Thanks people. :)
September 19, 200915 yr Captain Genaro, how do I make a custom road? Thanks people. :) Roads can be as simple as tiles layed down to represent roads ,bricks layed down on their side ( shown) or many other ways. I hope this helps if not just say so nobody has died ( yet )
