pdxbricks Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 They were selling these bags for $5 at 2009 Brickfest in Portland. There was a limited slection of parts that you could put in (like a small PaB), but the quantity that can fit in is HUGE!!! (especially if you don't close the bag, just fill it up to the rim). They are about the size of a half-galon bag. I haven't seen any of these bags in the local Lego store, though, I need to take a closer look next time I'm there. Quote
The Green Brick Giant Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 I haven't seen them in any of the Boston stores in years. But I do now only go to them in May so maybe I just keep missing out. Quote

The Braintree Lego store had Woody and Buzz to the Rescue RC in a grab bag. There was no buzz or woody figure if i looked correctly. There was a ton of other pieces in the bags but mostly random. Modulex Guy Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 I love the grab bags, I get them every time the store has them! All the grab bags are is just return sets, broken down store display sets, extra PaB, etc... A few bags ago I managed to get a lot of Emerald night parts, a heap of Build a minifig bits, PaB, Indiana Jones figs and parts. Quote
MrTools Posted March 26, 2010 Author Posted March 26, 2010 I havent had much good luck the past few visits, very basic parts in them. I would live to find one with emerald night parts, of maybe some sand green Quote

The Burlington store had a box full of grab bags yesterday. Half of them were all bricks, the other half were small bricks, plates and greeblies. Peter Quote

k_peek_2000 Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 I talked to a friend about these at the lego store, he said they are seasonal and to check back at your nearest Lego store in April. Quote
Pyramid Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 (edited) I just got back from the lego store in Nyack, NY, and I picked up one of these. GREAT HAUL!!! About 50 flat brown 1x4s (the smooth "floorboard" kind) About 50 Light blue 2x2s A pirate Mast! (From Brickbeards Bounty) A brown basin! (the big circular one) A ton of white window "panes" (but no windows to hold them) 10 or so black criss-cross railings A really cool arched space police looking window And some other assorted generic figs. I'm especially happy about the mast, since I mainly collect pirates. Now I wish I'd gotten more than one grab bag. The other ones looked kind of similar (there were about ten) One of them was completely different, it looked like it had the parts for 3 different bionicle figures! (bionicle is not really my thing, otherwise I would have snagged it) I highly recommend getting these. Edited March 27, 2010 by Pyramid Quote
MrTools Posted March 27, 2010 Author Posted March 27, 2010 Wow, great haul, Pyramid i would have definatly gone after something like thet. For some reoson the ones i have seen recently looks like they filled all the same bags with the same thing off the PAB wall, nothing like the first ones i found Quote
Big Cam Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 This OS awesome, I never knew that these existed. Thanks for reviving this thread, or I may have never found out. Quote
the_green_avenger Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 (edited) I noticed there are no licensed pieces. I wonder what they do with those? I got a grab bag about a year ago with an indiana jones in it... so... yeah... also, what sucks is that I got a bunch of window panes, but none of the window frames currently in my possetion fit them Edited March 27, 2010 by the_green_avenger Quote
jonwil Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 My guess is that they are supposed to remove the licenced parts (more specifically the figs and fig accessories as those seem to be the main parts that are considered "licenced") from the bags but occasionally a part slips through. Quote
-JD- Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 These sound really good! Next time I go to a UK LEGO store, I'll keep an eye out. Has anybody seen these in the UK, btw? Quote

Yes, I've seen a few at Bluewater in January... content not so interesting but I suppose it's highly variable from week to week. Quote
Commander Assassin Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 I remember back in 2005 they had grab bags at the Lego store in Chicago, IL, but some were themed! I don't remember all of them, but I know for sure that they had a Bionicle one that had a couple masks and various arms, legs and bodies. It reminded me of this, but every bag was different. Quote
pdxbricks Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 I went yesterday to our local store and asked about grab bags. They told me that they have a big tub in the back that they fill up with broken-up set pieces, and once it's full they fill the grab bags and put them out for sale. My impression was that there are few people there that get tipped off when special deals are available (a lady in front of me got a 7897 set for $49.99, allegedly from S@H return, although it's been at least 3 months since last I saw it in the store, and I'm pretty sure I saw one guy get a grab bag with mostly minifigs even though they told me that there were none available), so I doubt I'll be able to get my hands on one of the grab bags. They'll probably be sold out on the first day. Quote
posades Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 I've never heard about these grab bags before; are they advertised in the store somewhere, or do you have to ask (i.e. locked away somewhere in the back storage room)? I'll have to check out my local store this weekend since I need to pick up something for my niece for Easter anyways. Quote
drdavewatford Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 I've never seen these during my visits to the LEGO store in Milton Keynes (UK), but the store off Michigan Avenue (Chicago) always has a selection when I visit. I'll be visiting the Milton Keynes store soon to pick up Grand Emporium so I'll ask why they don't ever seem to have any grab bags. D. Quote

CMP Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Hm....my nearest Lego shop is in Dowtown Disney, but if I go there anytime soon, I'll keep an eye out for these, they look interesting! Quote
Skalldyr Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 (edited) In Germany they have really poor quality, I do not remember how much they cost but there are only a few parts in there and only standart bricks like 1x2 or 2x4 ... Edited April 7, 2010 by Skalldyr Quote

larry marak Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 They aren't available too often in the year, but every so often its spring cleaning time then Melissa (my Lego purist wife) and I carefully examine the bags for useful combinations. Recently we bought 7 bags at the Glendale Ca store. Made a number of bricklink sellers happy with some of the surplus we mailed out for free. My favorite find was the Venetian chase boats virtually intact in two of the bags. Sometimes the bags are full of junk, other times they are worth ten times the purchase price. Quote
