TheDesuComplex Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 (edited) If there available, I almost always pick up a couple of the grab bags when I hit up the Cleveland store. Between the mix of parts I wouldn't normally buy (in sets or bricklink), and the value of the purchase I definitely think it is worth it (as long as you're not looking for minifigs). That said, you have to be careful. I usually examine each one to make sure there's nothing in it I really don't want to pay for. Frequently, they've been filled with Ninjago playing cards (or whatever they are), Hero Factory parts and the like. In fact, the last two I picked up had no less than a combined amount of about 40 chest badges (http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=98570pb01) in them, and a whole lot of torsos. That's what you get with a gamble though, sometimes it doesn't quite turn out. That said, I was considering that they'd look great as escape pods on a mico-scale battleship... I also received hundreds of hats, hairpieces, shovels and brooms; I think they dumped out excess build-a-fig inventory into the bags.. maybe I can build some weird trees. Still.. worth it. Remember, there's no such thing as an unuseful Lego piece! And even if they aren't your style there's always people who'd want them. These Grab Bags sound almost mythical to me, having only visited a Brand Store twice. Their allure seems quite similar to that of the CMs- while they aren't blind-packaged, they do provide a surprise in every bag. I'm also wondering- are they always packaged in the pictured Club bags? The Kid Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 Has anyone ever found these at the Westfield London stores? I remember buying one from the Downtown Disney store in Orlando, FL back in '08 that was mostly MTT parts, including 7 or 8 battle droids of varying torso colour (sans their heads). Plenty of useful parts though, which are currently employed in a brick-built CMF display stand TK Quote

I've been there a few times, and the latter couple of visits I've looked for them, but I can never seem to find any grab bags. I find that grab bags an my local store sell out in a few hours but that they make them 2-3 times a month. I phone and sometimes I will be told they have them, at least twice I have been told no they dont and wont have any, yet I've visited anyway since I was in the area, and there they are on the shelf! So I find it really is ymmv. Also sometimes they are pick a brick blocks that have been spilt/left over and they need room for the new blocks in and other times they are broken down brand ribbon sets. Good bags do happen but you have to be diligent and lucky. Quote

I've been there a few times, and the latter couple of visits I've looked for them, but I can never seem to find any grab bags. Well like I say this was back in '08 so undoubtedly things will have changed now, but back then they were just sitting on a shelf next to all the keychains, brick separators etc. there were about seven or eight of them. But when I went back last year I couldn't see any, so I guess they've either stopped doing them or the timing was wrong. The first time I went was around Christmas; last year it was April. TK Quote
The Blue Brick Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 I was looking on youtube and found a great guy that does grab bag videos from his local Lego store. I was surprised on some of the parts he got. He has about 8 different videos from 8 different bags. In some bags, he'll get pieces from the maersk train, VW Camper, QAR, and other such sets. Quote
antp Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 (edited) In 1st vid I found funny that he didn't know the container box (61780) or the fact that parts & the fig were from the Maersk train Also, his cup from the pick-a-brick wall is really not well filled Edited April 22, 2012 by antp Quote

Also, I think he might need to visit the PAB thread here on Eurobricks for a couple tips. His videos are fun to watch though. Quote
Pingles Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 The Santa Clara store seems pretty consistent in putting out grab bags when they get new display models. Will be interesting when the current Star Destroyer gets disassembled. I was hoping the new Marvel models would push out some of the older displays into Grab Bags but if they did I missed them. Quote

I got figure parts(mainly head and legs) in the last few bags i got and i loved it way more then getting full figures since on the last 2 trips i was after figure parts(mainly torso and CMF hair) to make my own. Neat videos, but the guy making them does t seem very knowledgeable about LEGO. Maybe he has a kid into LEGO and he's just doing the videos for fun. But, I found it amusing he identified the Maersk train worker as a generic City fig and didn't get excited about the rare Maersk Blue hard hat. But, complaining about not getting a full minifig to employees...really? You're getting A LOT of pieces for $8 and you're complaining?! Ugh...you really never can please everybody. I've been there a few times, and the latter couple of visits I've looked for them, but I can never seem to find any grab bags. Usually they're out on a display shelf, or on the shelf where the empty PAB cups are. A few times I've asked if they have them, and they've had a few in the back that they hadn't put out on the shelf yet. Doesn't hurt to ask. Quote
The Blue Brick Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 (edited) I went to the Lego store yesterday and got two PAB grab bags. They had a fair amount of good pieces. There was some friends pieces in nice colors, couple windows, and mainly random bricks and wheels. I ended up getting 2 and 1/2 mini figures from the bag. In one I got a complete Batman without a cape, and a cm cheerleader torso with white pants. In the other bag, I got Superman with no hair. I was surprised they were starting to part away with the DC sets when they still had them on Display along with the Marvel sets. Does that mean they open random sets just for the grab bags, and use the display sets when they are ready to go? This guy on Youtube also got part of Wonderwoman, so it isn't just my store that is using the DC sets. Edited May 13, 2012 by The Blue Brick Quote

This guy on Youtube also got part of Wonderwoman, so it isn't just my store that is using the DC sets. I saw that video. Guy was throwing a FIT that he "only" got half a wonderwoman and that if it was a generic he could do something with it. All he has to do is find a torso from the BAM bin that works and a lego head and end of story. I really don't like his complaining about partial minifigures. I'd be over the moon with "just" half of a WW find. Quote
Legobrandon Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 I was the one that told the guy on YouTube about Bricklink and how he can get WW torso and head quite cheap. He likes LEGO, but literally has little to no knowledge of the brand. Quote

Like those 2 7.50 bags from the flea market that was "such a good bargin" when the first looked like a lot of knex of possibly clone brand and the second didn't look much better. Quote
Legobrandon Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 I really think were getting off topic here, but just one last comment from me about this guy's videos. I just can't stand the immature kids who have NO knowledge of the LEGO brand the LEGO parts commenting on his videos saying this part is from that and this part is from this. And I'm (I don't have to, but I want to) the one that has to correct all of them because I'm afraid the original poster will get incorrect information. Okay, my rant is done. Continue on with the Grab Bag discussion. Quote

Maybe since he's so disappointed at only getting Supermans hair, he won't mind parting with it. The nerve of that guy to actually call LEGO and complain about not getting whole figs...he clearly doesn't understand the already great deal he's getting in those bags. Quote

I don't think they are simply parting out any current sale able merchandise. Quote
